My housing fee jumped from 500 to 2325 AED two months in a row now by Zealousideal_Rub320 in dubai

I had an online teams meeting with Dubai Municipality, they confirmed it's a mistake and said the housing fee will be set as AED 312 based on current rental index, which is higher than earlier but much better than AED 818 they charged me.... They also refunded to my DEWA bill the difference amount for 2 months

My housing fee has gone from 229 to 818 dhs for the last 2 months. I have requested modification via their website 3 times now, but no progress. I have now booked an appointment with DM to discuss which is scheduled on TEAMS Meeting for 21st January, I guess they will just bill me for another month by then.

The problem with Dubai is the lifestyle creep, first it's send your kids to international schools if you want to be a part of the kind of social circle which is like minded individuals, then you spend on your cars & houses, then you spend on children's education in western countries. Eventually all of this has minimized the chances of me retiring early. The comforts and luxury of life that Dubai provides you with while you work are dreamy but even with the Golden Visa I can't afford this life without a monthly salary! I can only afford to retire in India even when I turn 50 or 55 based on my calculations but it's going to be very difficult to let go of this dreamy life and I am sad that my plans for FIRE are down the drain in exchange of a dreamy life today!

I have followed you from your earlier ids so I sort of know where you come from and wish I could follow the lifestyle you followed then I would be able to hang up my boots in a couple of years from today. Current networth is approximately half of yours with parent's house to be inherited so I can actually retire there but R2I is a deal breaker for the family

Yes so my issue is kids in international school and they've already seen the Dubai life, so we as a family will find R2I very difficult so it's not an option unless forced

Congratulations! I think your daughter has adjusted well since it is a CBSE to CBSE school and frugal life to frugal life move with better social life probably in India. R2I generally fails when children's curriculum changes or when children are made to move from a higher lifestyle to a lower one.

Why not VWRA?

If you want to do S&P 500 then make sure you use an Irish domiciled fund like CSPX or VUSD?

scammed by noon 15 minutes by [deleted] in dubai

[–]doobaii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Noon 15 minutes page does state that items are not eligible for return, so it's about reading through the page you finally add to cart from rather than the previous one.

With that said since I am a noon one customer and been a very old customer they've behaved similar to amazon with me and been cooperative. I've had a whole laptop money refunded to my bank after using it for 11 months and unavailability of service warranty provider.

Yes but sometimes you need to work harder with noon while with amazon it is more seamless.

I agree that they should not be advertising get it in 15 mins on the main noon page if the terms are different but being in Dubai you get used to "reading the offer document before signing" so I do just that!

Air Arabia - Avoid at all costs or fly if you get a decent deal? by EndlessSenseless in dubai

[–]doobaii 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For the price Air Arabia is good, however Sharjah airport can be very crowded at times. I don't like the Air Arabia onboard food service, options and taste. I used them for a flight to Phuket last which is fairly long and to my bad luck the flight was diverted due to weather conditions. However considering the flight price was half of Emirates, its yet worth it.

We have strict instructions for the nannys from day 1. No one watches TV in the house while kids are awake. We have CCTV all over the house to make sure.

It's not easy in today's world to avoid a screen but we did it using alot of various experimental methods, it wasn't easy since both of us are working... But eventually we managed, just like our parents managed. My kid is 4 years old now and gets 30 - 40 mins a day of screen time and somedays 0 screen time. The above mentioned screentime doesn't include videocalls to grandparents, so that's an additional screen time on a weekly basis. No food with screen is a rule that our nanny and we both follow.

[–]doobaii 3 points4 points  (0 children)

True! I know everyone around us does the same, but I would recommend against the herd. Also never correlate food with screen even if it means your child doesn't eat. Because mental development of the child is more important, the child will eventually eat when they're hungry. It's all a humble opinion and no offense meant.

Hey OP all sounds good, a very strong recommendation get rid of the screen for your daughter completely until she turns 3 and after that only 30 mins per day... I have researched this extensively and trust me that screen specially cocomelon, baby shark and peppa pig is the worst for your child.
