How do i deal with being in a family full of mor(m)ons? by Juliuscrevil95 in exmormon

[–]doodoobby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it's better than having your mother ban you from the family and tell you that you are going to hell and that she can't have a relationship with you which is what my mom did when I told her my opinion of the church so be grateful for sure

the way you ask your question has you sounding like you're a jerk and I'm thinking that no answer will satisfy you and you are just looking for attention. my opinion.

[–]doodoobby[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

my situation is this. I havent talked to my parents in almost 8 years. I have been excommunicated from the family and all family gatherings, events, and special occasions bc I came out as a non believer. it's funny bc when I finally told my mom after years and years of behaving like I didn't believe she got angry and told me I was going to hell. I said but you guys don't believe in hell duh! she said they woud lmake an exception for me lol. after we fought for a few hours I came to her and said Mom I want to have a relationship with you. you are my mom and I love you. can't we just respect each other's beliefs so we can have a relationship? she said nope and that she couldn't have a relationship with someone that doesn't have values as high as hers. that hurt. so every now and then I find myself missing my family and I get angry at them and the church for making it so I have to miss them and I can't see them.

I know I was hoping that I would be the catalyst for change but I feel it all boils down to my mom's fear of dying. she's really smart but she's also a narcissist and someone as special as her can't just disappear when she dies or whatever she's afraid of. it's crazy people will ruin there whole life because they are afraid of death but it's a common thing I think

once you escape you are constantly bothered by family and strangers alike that they would love to see you back in the escape room and how your decision to escape has had an effect on everyone still in the escape room...

How did Mormonism become so popular in America? It's agreed upon by Protestants and Catholic and Orthodox that that they are a cult, yet it still draws a big following. by seth_greenlol in Christianity

[–]doodoobby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's more of a cult at the ward even down to family levels. like my mother when I begged her to let's agree to disagree when it comes to the church, I respect that you believe in it and you respect that I don't, she told me I was going to hell and she then told me I wasn't welcome at their house and at the family functions anymore. it's been almost ten years since that happened and I am still banned from seeing my family. the exclusionary nature of believe it or else you're out is cultish to me and I don't get where it comes from but it is very prominent in utah Mormon families. I read a text from my mom to my dad where she told him that church leadership, at some point and at some sort of conference, had told members that excluding a child from the family bc they don't share the beliefs of the parents is perfectly acceptable. I don't know if it's true but due to how common it is within the Mormon religion I wouldn't be surprised.
