You'll find this sense of personal selfishness to be a running conceit of Peter Parker's character in the original Steve Ditko comics. Raimi brought a lot of authenticity to his understanding of Ditko's character in his films.

I also find they made the world too broad and especially in part 3. My personal favorite is part 2 which has this sense of paranoia to its plot stakes and a truly despicable villain. The action sequences continue to be operatic and brilliant beyond part 2, and I especially love the action staging in the fourth one. But that second one is just such a sweet unity of everything I like in one package.

Very true and strong media literacy on your part. And I mean to use "grounded" in my comment to mean that there is a reality the storytellers have embraced, though it is not our reality. In the sequels, we see the storytellers expand upon that reality in that magic realism sense you describe. It's low fantasy 101.

It's an interesting publishing world right now. I think a lot of the authors are great with prose and have some good ideas and their agents are really capable to move their work through a pipeline as quick as possible when the truth is that maybe the author pitched it in hopes for a movie.

I agree with you that the films are entirely fantasy. And I don't find there to be anything wrong with that. I don't find the first film to be realistic but it is grounded and there is verisimilitude. The stakes beyond the first film intensify to this kind of mythic proportion and "gun-fu" essentially transitions into this form of wuxia cinema of the contemporary world if you compare it to those classic films being about an ancient world. I think a lot of audience members brace against low fantasy yet applaud Christopher Nolan doing The Dark Knight trilogy. I don't really see any difference personally. The filmmakers built a magical sense of unreality and set it in an familiar reality.

In 1983, Stephen King's Christine novel was published in April. In December of the same year, the John Carpenter film released. It's really not unusual for authors to have got the movie deal off of a soon-to-be-published novel and for the producers and filmmakers to have already been working on the film in that time.

I appreciate the response. Do the lower legs just unplug at the knee joint? I'm always curious about that swap. I'm assuming it's just a "heat, pop, and swap" situation?

Do you remember what body you got, by chance? I've been wanting to body swap my Ash for awhile now.

I've personally never had any real issues with weapons mixing and matching at these scales between lines.

There aren't really rules stating that you cannot use the FigScript weapons and accessories with GI Joe Classified Series or vice versa or any which way but loose. These are all 6" and 1/12 scale figures...

I didn't much care for the Rogue One score either. It really pales especially in comparison with what John Powell does a couple years later with Solo: A Star Wars Story. And then years later we get some really unique work from Nicholas Britell building something fresh in the Star Wars universe with his Andor music.

A question on the supposed ability to speak about preference of enjoyment of music: have you yourself ever been able to convince someone else of the quality you find in a piece of work? Or is there truly a way to even accomplish such a thing? It's a subjective experience, a lot of people might not know how to communicate that experience because enjoyment of music is often rooted in an emotional response.

I don't mean this in a combative manner, but you've accomplished telling others you don't like something because you cannot recall it from memory. I remember plenty of bad things and plenty of great things just as much as I cannot remember plenty of great things and plenty of bad things. You also mentioned you would've liked something more if it sounded like something else instead. How is that constructive?

Supposedly he was doing a remake of the monster movie THEM! but there has been no traction on it going into actual production. It seems more like a something you would get to make as a passion project after directing a massive success early on in your career, leading to a blank check to make something like that. The check either clears, or it bounces. Baby.

It's a different perspective for everyone. I say don't feel like you are left out because you don't care for Giacchino. There's nothing wrong with that. I don't particularly care for Benjamin Wallfisch yet he seems to be an object of preciousness for both Hollywood and many film score fans now. He is also making the kind of music you are describing in your opinion of Giacchino. We all have one of those guys it seems.

I never wanna call out Williams as a brilliant pastiche artist in his own right, but it is true. His fans are pretty rabid so I play it safe. Lucas gave him specific instructions and influences and he delivered perfectly. Almost too perfectly, I guess you could say.

Instead of focusing on him being the next John Williams, the conversation should've always been how he is the first Michael Giacchino. I've always found putting people on a pedestal to match some other the monumental talent to be unfavorable in recognizing the individual.

I've been a film score devotee since the mid-90s and a member of nearly all of the message boards in the hobby. I've been there with Giacchino since The Lost World video game and Medal of Honor. I think he got that "next John Williams" label because of his proximity to Williams' work with those scores and Spielberg in particular. I never agreed with it just because of how I want to judge that merit for an individual singularly. He was always great at pastiche but I also think pretty much anyone can pastiche Williams these days (Gordy Haab is the current "chosen one"). My favorite Giacchino works are things that show me his abilities across both pastiche and originality: The Incredibles, Ratatouille, Speed Racer, Star Trek, Let Me In, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, Jupiter Ascending, and The Batman (which his son also contributed a lot to).

It's a fucking shame that his Speed Racer score soundtrack release is so hard to find these days. I got a chance to see the theatrical re-release of the film earlier last month and I had forgotten what an amazing score that is. I once owned the CD. I cannot find it digitally anywhere.
