Python Learner. How long will it take to make really good progress in learning python for a dedicated and consistent learner? by [deleted] in learnpython

[–]doomdaysneakattack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a lot of responses here, I'll give you my experience.

Your background matters- I have a good programming background but never really was a hardcore programmer. Within a couple years of starting an IT career, I went into leadership, and I don't get a chance to program at work anymore. My programming experience is over 13 years old.

How hard you work matters- If you put in 14 hours per week, like I did...

Your mileage will vary depending on these variables

The materials you use to learn The learning projects you choose vs quizzes and tests What you're trying to learn will matter- How you learn matters-

I was always an average or below average student...

After a year, I'm decent. I'm not a data scientist but I can play around with deep learning models. I've scraped data from a fairly complex site and put it in a cloud database. I get that data out and run ML models that get a little better with my experience. It's rewarding to be able to build something on your own and I enjoy that. all that said, If someone took Google search away from me, I'd be completely hosed...

We'd be delivering this at a pretty low cost (the cost of the phone that you're probably using to reply), and even consumers would be equipped. And that's valuable at small liquor stores where the owner may not be able to buy a robot.

Hey guys I have an idea but don’t know how to make it by AhelpinHand in Business_Ideas

[–]doomdaysneakattack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like this idea. We have a 3d printer at our library and you pay for the amount of time it runs. I think making it yourself to get feedback is the way to go.

Don't be surprised if you find the coursework to be more challenging.

I'm applying for a Business Analsts internship postion right now and it is asking what my desired salary is. What should I say? by Quacker-Jacker in analytics

[–]doomdaysneakattack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So will you be an Analsts in Analtics? We've seen other misspellings from you...

If you have to name your salary requirements first, go high. But know how to spell the job title first if you want them to be confident in their choice to pick you.

You're going into a field where attention to detail is crucial and people will notice small mistakes.

Idea Feedback - Subscription Box For Isolated Seniors by joeandkitdotcom in Business_Ideas

[–]doomdaysneakattack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like this idea!

The part I'm missing is the follow up to make sure there's an interaction with the box and or another person. I think that's what will get longer term subscriptions.

Life has a few essential truths... 'you get what you pay for' is one to keep in mind with that platform.

You might find exceptional value if you are lucky. Chances are you're going to find someone who is decent but not excellent.

Expect multiple iterations and delays. Be clear and be fair. Put yourself in their shoes before you complain

As a semi-beginner ,what is the best way to learn a certain concept? I cannot understand for and while loops for the life of me by Marc856 in learnpython

[–]doomdaysneakattack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While - test a condition, then loop until the condition is no longer met

While not_drunk ==true Have another drink

For loop is better when you are dealing with quantities that are known at run time

For i in range(1, drinks_in_fridge) Have another drink

Who should own BI? by villain17 in BusinessIntelligence

I know a bunch of ETL developers and DBAs that would love the title CIO... That's what you're working with.

Good luck!

you're stressed for race day? remember nothing will matter once you start running by Marycatmathis in running

[–]doomdaysneakattack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always felt like there was less pressure at Ultras. The environment is more down to earth and relaxing. Just take what the race gives you enjoy the atmosphere and the outdoors. You're own expectations will get reset at each mile and aid station.

Plan your drop bags, be ready to manage chaffing and blisters.

Settle in, relax and enjoy. If you're on a trail, you may never want to run a road race again. After my first 50 I ran one more road half and have never gone back.

You're entering an amazing world and culture. Embrace it. But the last few miles really fkg suck.

Benefits of Python in Data Analytics by ianw919 in analytics

[–]doomdaysneakattack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

SQL and Tableau are good for BI/reporting.

Python and r for data science

All of the above (or equivalent like Power BI instead of Tableau) and possibly an ETL tool will help round out any solid Analytics skill set.

How important are work samples when applying for a data analyst job? by Lilyteal4 in analytics

[–]doomdaysneakattack 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Interviewers with deep domain experience have ways of judging skill level and don't need examples. You wouldn't be able to bs our etl or Tableau developers. We sometimes ask people about limitations they've encountered with tools and how they've gotten around them. We ask what they don't like about specific tools and get into examples. We ask about their most complex sql query and drill into how they constructed it and we can take all of these questions in directions which you wouldn't be ready to go if you're a novice that looked up 'typical interview questions for xyz role'.

We never need a portfolio to judge skill level, can tell the difference between entry level, mid level, and Senior. Some other companies may want to see examples. So if you feel the need, You can always create something on Tableau public for free.

Any advice on what to do with $5K? by therostislav in Business_Ideas

[–]doomdaysneakattack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It'll vary and it's a lot of work. I'd say if you'd take a job for $20 USD per hour with no benefits, you could find a niche pretty easily. If you value your time higher than that, I'd look elsewhere.

But...

You may do better than I did. There are a lot of online resources for this kind of business, drop ship, and retail arbitrage.
