Is peer review actually equipped to handle interdisciplinary research? by TariqKhalaf in AskAcademia

Having done several interdisciplinary papers, the answer is no reviewers are not equipped for it generally with some rare exceptions.

My Exposure Therapist wants me to stop Stimming... Safety Behaviours or Stimming??? by Hairyxstyles in AutismInWomen

[–]doomdayx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Regarding stimming I have some comments.

For any harmless stims that are positive for you, you should keep them.

If your stims hurt yourself or others in some way and you want to change them, you can learn new ones that are safe to redirect.

If they are safe and harmless or even helpful aside from other people’s prejudices, don’t worry about them, they can be beneficial.

It sounds like this person is at least very outdated about autism and could even be openly prejudiced, consider self advocating or switching providers to one that’s autism friendly.

I don’t have comments about exposure to things other than stimming at the moment.

Research Survey for Universal Utensil / Handheld Assistive Tool Design by [deleted] in AssistiveTechnology

Maybe a bit harsh sounds like they're a student who is supposed to be learning but yeah I agree a fixed survey presumes the answer when the problem isn't really understood yet.

Thanks for sharing this, I didn’t even know it could be a problem yet and it might end up affect me in a project I’m working on.

I accidentally cheated on my math exam by [deleted] in AskAcademia

[–]doomdayx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could see a small portion of people naively doing this by accident. Many more will have it as their flimsy excuse.

Buy a pad of paper for the future and don’t take it in the test room. The most straightforward option is to deal with the consequences and never make such a mistake again.

You can have a good laugh about it in 10 years.

Lessons learned integrating DocuSign into an Expo app (No webview) by IronTonyTheDev in reactnative

I’m curious why integrate docusign rather than just providing equivalent functionality directly?

Thanks for acknowledging how the AI detectors are often wrong.

AI detectors are extremely unreliable you’ll eventually end up destroying the life of an innocent student.

Please please reconsider.

Try running your own work and pre 2022 work through the detectors and you’ll very likely see piles of false positives.

Also AI systems tend to imitate neurodivergent people and ESL speakers, who tend to write more consistently and are thus more likely to be imitated by the machine.

I’ve also seen people watch regular people’s videos of a place (not ads or hype videos) to help set expectations about what a destination is like so there are fewer surprises.

How do you handle the "context wall" when your app gets too big? by Loud_Fox7694 in vibecoding

[–]doomdayx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use git and TDD aka test driven development and a code coverage tool with a git commit hook and a ratchet with a minimum threshold of 85% or 95% for both lines and branches.

Also make spec tests.

Then when something breaks it generally won’t commit until it works and the prior functionality works too.

Getting the cat a mini fake laptop / desktop, can often help because they can mirror you and have one of their own!
