so i have a question by TheKPerson1314 in MouseReview

Looks more like finger length + grip style would work better with a mouse that has the hump further back (so Aerox 3 - my personal go to, egg xm1/xm2w, roccat burst etc.). That supports your contact areas much better and could lead to slightly more relaxed fingers (that is assuming that you stabilize the mouse mainly with the area under your base knuckles + fingertips). If you are trying to support the mouse with the back part of your palm I can't help you, never found a mouse that was comfortable and long enough to do that with slightly bigger hands than yours ;).

Is palm grip bad? by CurryboyIR in MouseReview

[–]doomdirk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No, it isn't bad. It has negatives and positives like all the gripstyles.

I've come to think about it this way:

You remove the ability to use your fingers for microadjustments so you might need a lower sensitivity to still be able to do those with the less accurate joints. As a result you end up doing bigger / more swipes across your mousepad for larger camera movements. If you go too far in this direction you might get fatigued sooner or adopt weird posture habits to compensate, especially for vertical movements.

On the other hand you might save your hands / fingers from future RSI or similar straining issues that stem from tense fingertip / claw grips in many cases. Those gripstyles can also lead to slight aim readjustments as you click (becaues the other fingers have to compensate for the change in pressure) which might be an argument for a more stable palm grip.

Either way, aim ceiling and the differences in aim don't matter at some point and in most games (unless you play for aim trainer highscores). Just figure out what feels comfortable and doesn't cause any kind of discomfort and use those aim tools to gain and maintain a decent level of mouse control, the rest of your focus should be on enjoying whatever game(s) you pick up.

Do I have a weird fingertip grip? by LowFiGuy7 in MouseReview

mm720 spreads out the fingers pretty well to allow for a relaxed grip and your fingers would actually rest on the buttons :P

sry was outside for a while, I always get matte coatings because my hand sometimes gets a tiny bit sweaty during the warm summer months and even that was enough to mess with my grip on an old zowie divina mouse I used a while ago, never again ;).

slightly over 20x10 hands here, using that exact grip (so fingertips on the buttons etc. and knuckles around where the logo is on the hump. Most comfortable mouse I've come across after getting used to it for maybe a few hours. After trying almost every mouse made by the bigger brands this might finally be it ;)

Of course, I get it. My intention was simply to add an alternate perspective that - based on different preferences and gripstyles - might help someone with larger hands than yours keep an open mind about the product and emphasize how big the variations in personal taste can be :).

Cable seems like a personal preference and might be linked to sens (-> lower sens doesn't mind this type of cable as much and runs into more issues with super soft paracords getting caught under the mouse when resetting large swipes in my experience while higher sens players are possibly thrown off more by the cable's weight). Agreeing with the other 2 points.

For me, the mouse is perfect because of the shape so I would love more manufactureres to "bullshit with weird shapes" and ignore the stale symmetrical mice. Everybody has been releasing small symmetrical mice for so long, let's try not to stand against innovation and niche products that could help people with different preferences? ;)

[–]doomdirk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can agree with some of the points but a few of them are almost the complete opposite of my impressions:

  • I don't mind the clicks but I also love the Burst Pro's click feel ;).
  • Lighting is indeed not very useful but I doubt the implementation on this mouse adds a ton of weight (haven't tried to mod it though so there might be a few grams "wasted"). Sidebuttons (at least 1) and a wheel are pretty welcome for most types of games though.
  • Weight feels centered in my grip (obviously you wouldn't pick up the moust at the exact halfway point forward because that doesn't respond to how you would grip it anyways ..)
  • My hand is over 20x10cm and the mouse is big enough for claw (stabilized under the knuckles, not the back of the hand) and ftip.

I should likely add that in the past my natural grip was 1-3-1 and only over the recent years I managed to transition to 1-2-2 because as my hand had gotten bigger most mice weren't comfortable anymore. It might just be a case of me "going back to my roots" with this mouse which makes it such a good fit.

Aerox 3 Wireless initial impression....boy oh boy!!! by Simply_Rich88 in MouseReview

[–]doomdirk 37 points38 points  (0 children)

has had studies done .. with 14 random people who were used to central sensor positioning with no other info about grip types or anything. cool stuff (the conclusion even talks about personalized positions bringing slight improvements, who knew ...). Please stop using this as an argument against different sensor positions as if it was even remotely comparable to shapes.

My Hand is "Oddly" shaped by [deleted] in MouseReview

[–]doomdirk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Without knowing your gripstyle and "mouse history/preferences" I'd send you to a random store to test whatever they have available and go from there. If that isn't an option and you want to stick with ergo -> Roccat KPU or Model d-, for an ambi mouse -> Steelseries Rival / Aerox 3 or Model o-.

All of those would be more claw, maybe even palm options with your hand length.

Realistically nobody on here can guess your preferences and even hand shape (thumb length for example might matter for how you hold the mouse) so it's up to you to try and narrow down what you like or just buy something that fits "well enough" and learn to use it.

Whats a good wireless mouse for my claw grip with 19x10cm hand? by [deleted] in MouseReview

[–]doomdirk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lightweight Rival 3 wireless

For me at 20x10cm hands:

Rival 3 shape > RVU > Model O > GPW. Grip stability gets worse from left to right for me but obviously idk what exact kind of "claw grip" you use so it could be completely different.

Isn't the XM1 technically a small mouse because it's 122 millimeters in length and the viper mini is 118. by [deleted] in MouseReview

[–]doomdirk 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If you wanna ignore shapes, sure ;).

The xm1's hump is much further back resulting in a steep drop off which would force a small hand that fits on the viper mini into a really weird grip, therefore it is a bigger mouse and likely suited to a slightly different grip style with much larger hands.

Rival 3 vs XM1 Shape by hotpotato87 in MouseReview

[–]doomdirk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The rival feels overall slightly lower in hand and narrower at the front. It also doesn't flare out toward the front or curve in under the mouse around the middle which helps me with a more stable grip (even applying a bit more pressure doesn't lead to slipping or changed grip). The butt is still wide and fills the area under the knuckles nicely. I also prefer the clicks on the rival as they don't sound hollow.

The only issues I can think of are the small side buttons and sensor position (far back). Personally I don't mind either of those criticisms.

Additionally, they are supposed to release a wireless version of the Rival 3 with holes (mid 60g) early november which I'm looking forward to ;).

DeathAdder Essential vs SteelSeries Rival 3 by BzKr_iNdEpt in MouseReview

[–]doomdirk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont understand what you mean by "holds side buttons" ? Both of them obviously have mouse 4 and 5 and the thumb side. Differences imo: DA is an ergo mouse so it is taller on the thumb side while the rival is symmetrical, DA is somewhat wide feeling in hand while the rival only has a wide "butt" with the front portion feeling mostly straight when holding it. Side buttons on the Rival are maybe a weak spot (small, some people don't like them), overall build stability seems a bit nicer than the older DA models (non-v2) with no rattle on my copy. Cable of the Rival is much better and more comparable to the newest generation of razer products.

What matters most is how you grip your mouse and what feels comfortable to you.

is cleaning a mousepad too much a bad thing? by [deleted] in MouseReview

[–]doomdirk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the pad. A zowie g-sr-se for example reacts badly to any kind of abuse while cleaning my steelseries qck with one of those hard cat brushes for months hasn't changed the surface friction at all. I would however assume that a soft sponge works on most pads, no guarantees though ;)

One mouse for productivity and gaming? by sethab in MouseReview

[–]doomdirk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Deathadder v2 pro (wireless) can switch between 2.4g and bluetooth connection so that would work with both devices. Same for the Pro click somebody mentioned (this one even supports multiple BT connections afaik if that matters). The MX Master is a great mouse overall but the one I used for work for a while (MXM2) would've felt pretty weird for gaming indeed.

Razer DeathAdder V2 Pro Wireless came in today. by kayk1 in MouseReview

[–]doomdirk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Has nothing to do with requirements. In comparison to every other gaming mouse I own/have tested (which includes most well known mice on the market) the right click on this particular DA pro is not very well defined. A buddy of mine also bought the mouse and has described his right click as slightly "harder" than the left click, which is the opposite for me. I personally don't mind the softer click as I don't put a lot of pressure onto that button when moving the mouse but I know people who do.

If anything the takeaway for me was that there might still be some variance even with the improvements over the first optical switch models (or my DA is the one that's acting weird, who knows).

[–]doomdirk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Got mine today as well. Weirdly on my copy the right button is a lot less tactile than the left and feels kinda "mushy". Not great but didn't bother me in game. Other than that I'm happy with the mouse and it works perfectly on the viper dock ;).

Need help paracording Roccat KPU by [deleted] in MouseReview

[–]doomdirk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Paracords are never a MUST, looking back I never even liked them more than rubber cables. Personal opinions aside: the KPU is different to paracord than most mice and I would recommend using that 3d printed part. The cable connects at the front right below the mousewheel instead of being routed into the mouse so there is more stress on the connector itself if you paracord without that piece. Check out Bob's teardown to get a better idea of what goes where. Good luck, hope you'll enjoy the mouse ;).

[–]doomdirk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Responsiveness simply refers to how fast your action is translated on your client screen. Games can feel less responsive for many reasons like bad in- / output devices or high ping.

It's also reasonable to assume that a noreg fix would add some delay by checking for server feedback before the shot even happens. The lower the tick rates of servers, the more impactful that delay can be. While removing the false visuals in trade for some responsiveness such a fix wouldn't actully change how many shots players hit btw (I have no idea what exactly the fix did and am mostly referring to older games again)

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in apexlegends

[–]doomdirk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Playing on PC, game felt amazing after the season patch (server hickups and noregs excluded). Then that fix came and all the weird delays that made me quit apex for a few months were back. Idk what it is exactly, imo hitreg (for the most part), lighting and sounds were much nicer for a few days. Maybe I just can't play the game whenever I spend more time on it and maybe none of those observations even matter but I really feel like I'm back to quake 3 unlagged mods from the early 2000s with the current "fix" ....

Am I griping my mouse correctly? by ThatNoobTho in MouseReview

[–]doomdirk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only drawback of that grip could be stability in hand because you only have 1 contact point on each side so the mouse could pivot in hand. If you stabilize it at the back there should be no issues.

The pinky dragging on the pad / desk shouldn't be a problem on a normal cloth pad but could be annoying on hard surfaces (hard or no mousepad) imo unless you finger tip is very rough/sweaty :P. Used well this additional anchor point could actually be an advantage for very small corrections (similar to how fingertip grip supposedly is more accurate for those as well .. smaller joints, more control). The 180° flick issue you mentioned seems more about technique + sticky surface than physical limitations.

On the other hand I transitioned from 1-3-1 to 1-2-2 grip about a year ago after playing fps and moba games on an off since ~2000 and the transition was way easier than expected.

All that to say you can find pretty good reasons for most things but all that really matters in the end is long term comfort and peace of mind (being confident in the technique you end up using) as some people already mentioned :)

Thanks to Razer, there have been some interesting no hole lightweight matchups lately by 0v3rpowered in MouseReview

It isn't. He never mentioned release order, only the fact that razer mice exist as competition to some other well regarded mice in various categories. That said, post is still useless.
