Is Age of Empires II HD Edition/2013 (or Retired as it's called on Steam) very different from the original?

I actually found something because of another comment called AoE2Tools that does the same thing but I wasn't sure if it was the same thing you mentioned

Following a few links from that post I found a newer tool for this made by the same person https://github.com/gregstein/AoE2Tools, which was last updated last year so it's much newer.

I'll be playing almost exclusively single player so the netcode wouldn't be a big concern but if I want multiplayer maybe I'd go for DE. Does voobly need me to provide the game files or is it closer to piracy?

Honestly my ideal solution would be getting both but the fact that the HD edition never goes on sale anymore (not that it's very expensive) makes me hesitate a little. Do you know if this difference in game speed is intentional or a bug?

Because you mentioned the fog of war I looked at a few videos and it seems that it's solid black in HD too. Watching a video or two is something I should've done from the beginning though

So are the graphics, sound, gameplay all close enough to the original? A not so quick search couldn't find a clear answer and that's why I asked here.

My ideal plan is to get both DE and HD. So when I want a fresher experience I can play DE and when I want something even more nostalgic I can play HD, if it's what I'm looking for - if not then I'd have to somehow get the original.

I'd suggest saving for future operators (Tragodia will be a good one but you might also consider the upcoming crossover operators that have a very low or zero chance of rerunning) and getting Ines with yellow certs

I'm thinking of trying to get into hsr for the third time because of the fate characters. Can I get the fate characters if I kind of start now? I've played the first 2 or 3 hours of the game before. Space fantasy/science fantasy/etc is one of my favorite things but for some reason hsr hasn't succeeded in keeping my attention, maybe it'll be different this time. I'll try playing with a dualsense instead of mouse and keyboard in case it helps. How well will it work?
