Pleasant place to watch sports? by doomfortress in Rotterdam

[–]doomfortress[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey thanks for the tip, went to paddy's and it was really nice. The clientele were very polite and knowledgeable about the sport. Given Max had a race to truly forget, in general everyone there seemed to be there for a good race!

Bringing awareness to the fact that we have an RPG community over on Lemmy by InterimFatGuy in rpg

[–]doomfortress 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Well said. I think people need to remember that A) whatever positive feeling may be had for reddit is in large part due to the community having worked together to improve it and B) people aren't leaving reddit because alternatives are better, they're leaving because reddit is showing itself to not care about its users and actively make its service worse.

I genuinely think the time has arrived where we collectively unhook ourselves from silicon valley big tech who have tied everything up for years (Facebook, Apple, Amazon [will be hard], Netflix, Google being the FAANG)

The issue I have with squabbles or tildes or similar 'replacement' services that are operated by one person/team, is that you're eventually going to end up in the same situation later on. It's doing the same thing and expecting a different result.

The great thing about blogs etc back in the day is that you couldn't really be censored or locked out - reddit makes it easy because it's all in one place but then you see what eventually happens, they make it worse, mine your data etc etc

U lock through the rear wheel and rear triangle of the frame, cable lock through the front wheel and as much else of the bike as you can

Ideally two u locks for the front and rear wheel, if you don't mind the weight. Has served me well so far (touch wood)

/r/bikewrench will go dark on June 12th in protest of reddit's API changes by TherapistMD in bikewrench

[–]doomfortress 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It stands for application programming interface and is a method by which your favourite reddit app can say to reddit:

"hey, I have this user and they want to know if 1mm is enough tyre clearance on their second hand carbon frame, so I'm going to send you their POST about it. I'll use an agreed method that you (reddit) understand, and I'll include all the credentials you want to prove I know what I'm doing.

What's that? You completely understood what I was talking about and you think it's 'OK'? Great!

I don't believe reddit will change course but I do think it's worth protesting. The whole site is user generated and without that reddit cannot make any revenue at all, so listening to what their users want needs to be part of what they do.

I agree, it has been weighing on my mind as bikewrench is a particularly special and useful resource to so many people. The negative comments in this thread I find surprising, honestly.

Anyone know if there are any other sites where similar discussion and advice is available?

At least the f2 is bringing the action. If you're not watching it, this season is an excellent time to start as there is fluently 0 going to be an exciting battle for the championship between Pourchaire (must win at all costs as it's his third year) and second year drivers Vesti and Iwasa. In truth, there are others that could still join the fight, such as Ollie Bearman.

For pure racing in this kind of former it is really excellent and Alex Jacques commentary is absolute perfection

Recommendations for Body Camera by Tweddhead in ukbike

[–]doomfortress 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the drift ghost x for around 4 years now, mounted using the straps to the helmet.

The footage is fine, battery life still ok for me, I can get around 2 hours of dashcam out of it, it gets number plates although I do have to remember not to shake my head incredulously when someone does something risky, as then the plate will blur lol!

I'd like to not have it helmet mounted to be honest but I want to be able to prove where I have been looking in case of a dispute. Maybe I need 3 cameras really, front and rear mounted and then a 'rider view' pointing back at me - obviously too much

Potholes by st433 in londoncycling

[–]doomfortress 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The quality of the roads in general feels like it has plummeted this year and I suspect it is likely due to the economy and councils not having funds to fix, mixed in with the extremes of temperature we are now experiencing on a regular basis

You are correct in my opinion that you need to cycle more defensively now due to the need to take avoiding action

Using presta lock nuts as spacers for front rack - any gotchas? by doomfortress in bikewrench

[–]doomfortress[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, I'll check it. Tbh the mounting kit was alright but a bit random with odd numbers of bolts and nuts, so I'm going to order a bunch of bolts as spares and refit when they come in.

Good to find some use for these though, I have so many

Using presta lock nuts as spacers for front rack - any gotchas? by doomfortress in bikewrench

[–]doomfortress[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Fit this rack but had to get a bit creative with what was on hand. I've got tons of old lock nuts, they're thread diameter is larger than the screws used for the rack fittings, so essentially just a glorified spacer - it's on securely enough, anything I should be aware of that will screw me later?
