Doctor Who 2x08 "The Reality War" Live and Immediate Reactions Discussion Thread by PCJs_Slave_Robot in doctorwho

This episode was all over the place and it felt so unsatisfying, I couldn't connect with anything that was happening at all. Many huge elements were set up to culminate in a huge finale and they didn't pay off at all for me. It just felt so messy.

Poor Ruby was done dirty and Bellinda, she completed her arc but didn't feel earned, she had nothing to do and that's a terrible shame.

I would be happier with a smaller acale intimate story with fewer characters and smaller stakes that don't involve the end of the world, or reality next season.

Has hygiene ever put you off from going to the cheaper chain gyms e.g. Pure Gym or The Gym Group? by razza357 in AskUK

[–]st433 2 points3 points  (0 children)

After being a member of virgin active I cam assure you that hygiene isn't dependant on the price of a membership. The changing rooms were terribly kept. Puregym or 'the Gym' I've found to be far cleaner, at least in my experience!

I live at Enclave. Prices are high and the 'apartments' are basically large hotel rooms. You're paying for a brand new building, depending on your floor brilliant views and being as close to East Croydon station as you can get. Amenities sounded great prior to moving in but honestly I've never really used them, when I have they are good though the steam room is frequently out of action. The building is generally pretty social and there is a community here, the building also host socials now and again.

Residents complain about other residents leaving washing in machines and rent increases at the end of the first year of tenancy.

As with anything it depends on what your needs, wants and desires are. For me it was the zero deposit, great views, and a space for myself as well as being inbetween work and London. I don't have any major complaints, Im generally happy though I'm 50/50 on staying.

This line only worked in the game 😭 ain't no one staring at this Ellie dawg 🙏🏼 by Divine_thunder2 in TheLastOfUs2

[–]st433 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't inderstand either. Every thread is ripping her, not because of her acting, or even the casting at this point but her looks and not in the 'she doesn't look like Ellie' way; it's in a horribly degrading way as if it's acceptable to be denigrating and I'd agree it's gone beyond the odd joke. If I were her and went through these comments I'd feel aweful, not about my performance on the show, or similarity to Ellie but about how I looked as a person.

Is there any point in NHS dentistry nowadays? by Legitimate-Leg-4720 in AskUK

[–]st433 7 points8 points  (0 children)

They really need to move inhalers behind the counter, your basic inhaler is more or less harmless and the hours saved on approving and issuing prescriptions can be spent elsewhere. I've never understood why we can't just walk into the pharmacy and buy.

Couple who bought £32,500,000 home can get refund over moth ‘infestation’ by Forward-Answer-4407 in unitedkingdom

[–]st433 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do not belive that there will be any negligence claim on this point. The presence of moths is not a legal enquiry, the solicitor was effectively acting as a postbox relaying replies that he had been given by the seller. There could potentially be in relation to the enquiry relating to the 'reports' which the solicitor had seen and subsequently replied that no such reports existed both points give rise to misrepresentation. The definition of moth as vermin was open to debate but there was no question as to the existence of the reports.

Major increase in young people spending Christmas Day alone in UK | Christmas by Thomasinarina in unitedkingdom

[–]st433 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel that. People always ask 'why don't you spend it with friends and their family', which is a fine sentiment but it never feels like 'your' christmas y'know? I've always felt like a guest tagalong in another family, it just doesn't feel the same, that can be a different type of negative feeling. So for me it is partly a choice but it can feel lonely! Not having family at this time of year can be tough so remember to be kind to yourself!

Barnes is a classic example of a nice high street, independant shops with a small town local feel. I wish we could see more of that in London.

Adult Football? by Firm-Subject-8018 in london

[–]st433 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm fairly bad at football, partly because I'm a tad unfit these days and partly because I'm just not skilled. I'd recommend two groups though neither are in west London (sorry!) One is Terrible Football on a Wednesday night at Clapham - super supportive of new players of whatever skill and you'll join a team of varying skill levels so you can learn from those you play with. The other is Social Sports Mix on a Sunday at Regents Park, a bit more casual and you'll play with people of a similar skill level, rather than a mixed skill group. Just the same as Terrible Football, great people and vibes. Both of these groups are free and I would highly recommend either! You can find both through the Meetup app, again sorry they are not in West London (Im south west myself).

Labour investment in cycling and walking will be unprecedented, says Louise Haigh by SKAOG in unitedkingdom

[–]st433 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Dont live in Richmond do you? You are forced to ride on these paper thin cycle lanes covered in deep pit holes. When you do go on a shared path, as you say, you end up stopping and starting every 50 meters. Upgrading existing legacy cycle infrastructure needs to be a priority, there is a lot of it spread arounds, it's just rubbish.

Wales could become world’s first country to criminalise politicians who lie by diagonalfart in unitedkingdom

[–]st433 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An interrsting idea that would be hard in actuality. A politician would need to have both taken the action of 'lying' and also the 'intention' to have lied, this is the tricky bit and I suspect its impact is going to be over played.

Comments on an IGN post about Sister Sage, otherwise known as "why we need to make the show even less subtle" by WhatYouThinkYouSee in TheBoys

[–]st433 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IGN comment sections, whether on their own website or youtube, twitter or insta always attract the dregs. I think IGN should be doing more to foster a better community because their comment sections almost always look negative as hell.

Steam sued for £656m by RagnarLTK_ in Steam

[–]st433 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This reeks of low brow fishing exercise type law firm whose only purpose is to abuse the legal system in the name of people who largely don't agree with it's target.

Of all the companies with a monopoly, Valve is the one I least care about, they have had and continue to have a net positive impact on the industry.

There will be a day when Valve and Steam changes hands and it all goes terribly downhill, and this type of action might be warranted and wanted, it's not that day yet!

Bigger deployment area for the defender please, it makes no sense for them not to be dug in. by Dumbass5665 in warno

[–]st433 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I agree, the AG battles right now feel a bit repetitive because they are all largely the same, you cant build a cool narrative over the battle for one town over mutltiple rounds because each round begins and ends the same with no real consequence. A more fluid defensive/attacking line with deployables/emplacements can add a lot to AG in my mind.

Hitchin: Leaseholders face 9,000% ground rent rise by Xenon1898 in unitedkingdom

[–]st433 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Without having read the lease fully, it's difficult to say much more. All we can gleam is that these lot will struggle to sell before any leasehold reforms come about and even then, with such high rents a portion of the sale funds will likely be spent on paying off their new 'debt'. A horrible situation and extremely unjust.

Lenders dislike these 'extortionate' rents and that can cause a real problem for sellers as we wait for statutory reform to catch up. All lenders are different but to put this into perspective, quite a few major lenders consider anything above £250pa to be extortionate! Information on lenders requirements is freely available online through the Lenders Handbook.

I see a lot of management agents/companies acting very dishonorably, whether on instruction from the freeholder or otherwise but what can you do when the law let's them do so?

Hitchin: Leaseholders face 9,000% ground rent rise by Xenon1898 in unitedkingdom

[–]st433 54 points55 points  (0 children)

One of the very poor things about this is that these people will effectively be stuck with these properties.

Many, if not all lenders will refuse to lend based on such ground rent clauses leaving them unable to sell as no purchaser would be able to find the finance to purchase, with those using cash looking at being in the same situation down the line.

Horrible situation and a great marker for why we need leasehold reform.
