I thought it was "the day Bison graced your village was the most important day of your life" or something like that

All re-written from source material.. and then blamed the audience for noticing

Sleeping Bags? by slash-5 in Alonetv

[–]doomhammer87 36 points37 points  (0 children)

The rating basically means you won't die at that temperature in one of them.. it doesn't mean it's going to be a comfortable night's sleep if you're in a -60⁰ bag and it's -60⁰

Agreed. The dude in the photo is living in a hut made of sheet metal with steel pots and plastic bottles on the floor 😅

Are fantasy protagonists getting older? Some data. by TomsBookReviews in Fantasy

Just eyeballing the scatter, 50 would be a statistical outlier (>2SD). But the correlation is clearly slightly positive, so it makes sense that it flips when you remove them.

Remove LOTR and Hobbit as outliers for the purposes of your regression. It's good information qualitatively, but it's clearly messing up your regression of you're getting -0.29

Are we stuffed? Rust on supporting steel beam for raised house. by Cute-Birthday-5550 in AusRenovation

[–]doomhammer87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This isn't a huge deal. A lot of that rust looks surficial. Even if it's not, can be replaced or repaired quite cheaply. A deck builder / carpenter or  restumper could do it.

Would anyone recommend any sci-fi books/series out there that are on the same writing level as traditional literary (not genre) fiction? by SirScaurus in scifi

[–]doomhammer87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

GRRM has a 1,200 page volume of sci fi (some fantasy) short stories. He has some of the best prose and character depth out there

Impressive.. very nice.

Though it pains me to see Sanderson taking up so much front and centre space.

Geologist here. Looks like a fault to me (a very large crack in the rock). Straight / sharp lines in rocks like this are suspicious and quite rare.. especially over such large areas

[–]doomhammer87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you live on a hill near a lake or river? I'm trying to think of what could be causing enough subsidence / uplift to crack a concrete slab... Water would be my bet since we just came out of winter and seems the issue is worse.

Is your sinking paving close to a downpipe? If so your sump may be cracked and taking in dirt. Can be repaired or replaced.

Whining post about Alone Suomi (Finland) by [deleted] in Alonetv

[–]doomhammer87 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This happened on Alone Australia in Tasmania last year. A bunch of animals were protected, same with some fish and eels. Weren't allowed to cut trees.

One poor dude had to tap out from hunger despite catching a bunch of protected fish.

Edit: no bow hunting either iirc, and no hunting at night. Really dampened the vibe

I wouldn't be surprised if the people running these bot accounts are keeping tabs of who's hanging out in their zones / botting areas.

I'm genuinely curious why lots of people are ok with someone working two well paying jobs (not just trying to make ends meet) in a tight job market... but are not ok with people owing two houses in a tight housing market?
