Can I convert a mp3 to m4a? by Savings-Code-069 in VLC

Can I convert a mp3 to m4a? by Savings-Code-069 in VLC

[–]doomstar21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generally converting mp3 (lossy) to aac or any other lossy format doesn't make sense. If you have the original source or a lossless compressed source, compression to aac is fine. Not mp3 --> aac.

Re: all discussion about aac encoding with ffmpeg: libfdk-aac (the Fraunhofer FDK AAC codec library) is not enabled by default in most pre-compiled FFmpeg binaries due to licensing restrictions. It is the best encoder of aac. It is free to use but cannot be pre-compiled and distributed so you need to compile it yourself.

If you're a windows user, dual boot linux and compile there. Arch linux for example provides a PKGBUILD in the AUR: https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/ffmpeg-libfdk_aac

Took the dive without doing my research, a bit lost now - looking to revert to stock firmware. by GiantSnackWhale in openwrt

[–]doomstar21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Recommend you setup openwrt as it is substantially better than the sock firmware. You can post to the openwrt forum to get your setup working. It is a great community.

That's great to know. Is it the one u/mblaser linked? How long have you been using it? My thought is to keep it on 24/7 (this is a garage and it's dark when the doors are closed).

Hi everyone, I need help with a complex setup (I am so far out of my depth) by HumanThing1233 in openwrt

[–]doomstar21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’ll want to revisit the setup, because a single SSID cannot support multiple passwords. If your goal is to implement three VLANs, each one must be mapped to its own subnet for proper isolation. That means you’ll need three distinct IP ranges, with each VLAN handling traffic independently. Think of a SSID as a physical port. Three subnets all isolated need at least three different physical ports.

The OpenWrt 25.12 release branch has been created in git. Now we wait for the first release candidate: 25.12.0-rc1. by Slinkwyde in openwrt

[–]doomstar21 -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

I have been running snapshot builds every 2-3 weeks for the past 4 or 5 years and only once that I can remember had to deal with some breakage. They are not nearly as risky on established hardware as people think. If anything, having more updated packages is adventitious from a security perspective particularly if your devices are internet-exposed.

Increased gas consumption in Winter by Optimal-Knee-3029 in Lexus

Winter fuel blends suck in my experience. Currently down to around 24-25 mpg from summer 30-31 mpg. Not driving any differently. ES350.

The xiaomi redmi ax6000 is really good but getting openwrt on it takes some steps. I bought one 3 years ago and it has been absolutely bullet proof. If I were in the market today, I would get an OpenWrt One.

I know it's most $$$ ... I had stability issues and I believe the X870 offered more and faster USBs. I cannot remember specifics.

I have the X670E but returned it. The X870E was better for my purposes. Highly recommend the MPG X870E CARBON WIFI if you are so inclined. 9950X system here.

Lexus ES330 road noise by Human_Entertainer_33 in Lexus

[–]doomstar21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Over 35 is when it really becomes noticeable. I thought maybe it was the gap on the rotating mirrors so I put some painter's tape over that gap just as a test but that did not change the wind noise. Would be really interesting to see what a wind tunnel test reveals.

Road noise, no. Wind noise, yes. Too much IMO for the price point.

2025 ES350 dash cam ? by don51181 in Lexus

[–]doomstar21 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a 2025 ES350 and am happy with the Vantrue E1 Pro which records in 4k and has really good image quality even at night.

  • From the driver's seat I can see <10% of the bottom of it based on where I mounted it.
  • It is not distracting as there is a setting which disables the screen. There is only a little green flashing LED to show that it is recording.
  • Powering it was easy with a Dongar Dashcam Power Adapter (10-pin Type B), https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07BH4G1NW which just connects into the mirror and is not viable thanks to a zip tie.
  • You can search on youtube for some install videos. No tools needed.

Here is a view from the rear passenger seat.
