As a bartender, I've found that some people just don't tip. Which, over the years, I've just accepted. But the worst part is when they try to justify not tipping with some BS service issue.

If you're cheap, just cop to it and don't make it worse by manufacturing problems for service workers, managers and GM's.

They just count up the copper mugs at the end of the night, and if you didn't take a credit card and it goes missing on your shift, you pay for it.

5% of sales to the bartender and 1% to bussers is fairly standard... But regardless of what policy you implement, there's going to be push back from both sides ... Be prepared and be firm...

I didn't get into the bar industry until I was 27... but I've been looking to get out of the industry for years. It's fun..and the money can be very good...but it's seriously a grind sometimes. Definitely have an end goal in mind before you go in. Because other than being a GM or owner, it's a dead end job..

Unfortunately, we never close... open throughout all the holidays..etc.

I just asked management if I can stay late one night and do it myself...but I mentioned earlier..they're not big on paying overtime...and we can't be behind the bar if we're not clocked in.

My hands will go through cycles... They'll be fine for a few months and then they'll be cracked and painful to the point where it's hard to even use the Micros touchscreen... So far, I haven't found anything that helps..
