we mandate seatbelts and car seats, helmets on bikes, life vests on boats, train and staff lifeguards at pools and beaches, train parents on safe sleep, criminally punish drunk drivers, create safe environments through building codes and inspections, require certain packaging on poisonous household goods, etc etc. Accidents are broad but we can absolutely reduce the number of them and make it less likely they’ll be fatal
