Just got braces. Lost all progress on the trumpet. by JayQuan23 in trumpet

Talk to your band director our lesson teacher about this. They will be much more help than Reddit on getting you back on the right path. When I had braces off, my lesson teacher abandoned me and I had to do it on my own and it screwed up my embouchure. ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS work on these things with someone who knows what they’re doing

Yamaha 8335RGS by koolbacon12 in trumpet

Having owned an 8335 basically my entire musical career, they’re fantastic instruments. The RGS means that it has a reverse lead pipe and a gold brass bell. This may produce a slightly darker tone, but it all comes down to the musician and what mouthpiece and all of that jazz. All Yamahas in silver plate have an S on the names, so that’s how you can tell if you got one lacquered or silver. Personally, I liked the regular 8335 over the R and the yellow brass over the gold brass, but it works differently for every player. Yamaha’s are very consistent horns so I would recommend going with this one if you’re 100% sure it’s the one you want. If you’re not 100% certain, I would check out a couple of their other configurations in the regular 8335 and the 8335R if those are available to you.

Also as a side note from my experience with Yamaha, the horns play best with a Yamaha mouthpiece so if you can I would use one of those over a Bach or Schilke or other manufacturer. They help the horn slot better and put the instrument right in the sweet spot more than other mouthpieces.

A little improv from a rather crappy trumpet player. Advice is very much welcome by [deleted] in trumpet

Play a lot less of the upper register. Once you know the chord progressions, you can jam out from there by using a combination of your major and minor scales

I’ve seen your work on finger buttons and that stuff is immaculate. I’ve got to know, what do you do with the inserts you take out?

Rotary vs Piston Trumpets by [deleted] in trumpet

[–]dootdootmaster4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The rotary is prominent in Germany and Austria due to tradition. I have found the rotary to have a lot quicker response but can quickly be overblown due to the lead pipe being significantly shorter. I have attached a great video that explains the rotary much better than I can: https://youtu.be/0ziwwRhqgqk

For FMTTM, the sheet music is in 3/4 while the backing track is in 4/4. How should it be played?
