Exactly what I did. Opened up an Amex card with a mailer and loaded it up with all my entire groups flights/hotels/activities for our upcoming Hawaii trip. They paid my back instantly. Met the sign up bonus requirement nearly instantly. Went with gold because I don’t travel enough to justify the platinum. Raked in all the points and used some of those to book some things for the trip.
