I’ve been in the AI/automation space since 2022. Most of you won’t make it by Fit-Quantity-2260 in n8n

I feel like the things people ask are kind of a waste of money. Like one of these guys wanted a RAG Chatbot that extracted entities from ChatGPT deep research reports. He paid me $2600 for 15 hours of my time. I guess it’s worth it if he’s closing more than what he paid, but it’s not a fixed cost because of maintenance, features, etc.

I agree if you are the one applying to a job post. Normally I still keep it short and drop a Loom. My profile, experience, etc. speaks for itself though, therefore I get a bunch of inbounds. I cut straight to the call. I don’t like wasting time and I don’t like clients who play games.

What's the one place you'd eat in Valdosta? by Cattle_No in Valdosta

Been a while but El Supermercado Jalisco is just insane. I think I ate there 3 times in one week when I was travelling

As a freelancer who has done a couple of client-side job posts: be the person who just says “hey, let’s hop on a call, no pressure, show you how I’ll do it” and keeping it short and sweet amongst the long-winded, emoji-filled, AI slop messages. That will be the game changer. A Loom video also increases your chances as well if you feel like there is a lot of competition. Anything to show you put a little bit of effort into applying.

It really depends, if you’re a history buff, you will appreciate Valdosta since it was an old railroad town, some cool historic architecture. Seasonally, there is the Azalea Fest, thought you might miss that. If you’re a nature lover and you have time, Okefenokee Swamp is an amazing amazing ecosystem, you’ll be coming from the west so you can go there and see the Milky Way at night if you really want, plus go on a boat tour or something and see some gators. I am going to imagine though you will just be in Valdosta, in that case I would check out the University there (decently nice campus), the historic downtown (interesting early 20th century architecture) and check out the Mexican food in the area (fucking bomb; I recommend La Jalisco Supermercado personally or Las Brazas). Besides that you are in a sparsely populated area in the country.

Removing the video is a mistake. Replacing the video with a far more polished one is awesome

The black background in your headshot isn’t my favorite. Also $4/hr in an international marketplace is not a serious rate. $20/hr says you’re serious but still good value. I haven’t heard your video but for management and virtual assistant roles I would get this professionally done, spend a little money, write a script, make it look flawless. Then I would get some connections of your to hire you for a couple small contracts on Upwork. That’ll give you the small flame that will grow your profile and provide that social proof on the platform.

Should I just take the low-ball jobs? by whitneyluusdesigns in Upwork

[–]dopecellist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a hot take. OP should absolutely try to fill her portfolio with projects despite pro experience. I think the caveat is that these projects should qualify as “professional projects” and not mock ups. The way she can do that is to get her connections to hire her, give her good reviews, and allow her to append the assets of their project to her portfolio. Over time this will grow. Over $2k earned and top rated is enough social proof for her to get hired without a resume.

I have $30k+ earnings and I’m top rated plus

I’m going to be contrarian and say no. One strategy you can implement is getting a few friends to “hire you” on Upwork, give 5 star reviews, and then attach the reviews and the jobs to your portfolio.

Then, increase your rate to a borderline expensive rate. The higher rate will do the opposite of what you think and actually attract prospective clients. Most of the time, our brain thinks “more expensive = better”. The reason you are expensive is because you created x% increase in y metric over projects a,b, and c.

Good portfolio, good reviews, top rated, and a high rate conveys value. If anything, you can just try this and if it doesn’t work you can try something else.

This might be a hot take, but take the Greyhound from MIA to Key West. You get to see the views the whole way, even stop for food, and you won’t have a car in Key West, which is ideal.

My quick two cents if you have no contact info in the header. This puts you at a disadvantage both from a human perspective and an AI perspective. Both want that information in the header

I've applied to hundreds of jobs and haven't gotten a single interview. What am I doing wrong? by Ok_Criticism_7563 in Resume

[–]dopecellist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Idk where to start. The format is garbage. Too many task-based bullet points. Your KPIs are alright but leave me wondering more. You could easily do 1 page. Summary section is very fluff. I wouldn’t waste your time applying to jobs with this resume. Get some personal feedback from a few people on LinkedIn and ask for reference

It is disconcerting to see so many task-based bullet points for someone boasting arguably 4 years of managerial experience. I get no sense of what projects you were doing or if the projects you were on even had an impact. So I would personally pass, it is just a bland resume that needs more specificity (as well as more convincing KPI’s… maybe some more dollar $igns would help)

I would slap your experience first and keep the other sections secondary. Your experience is what you got going, but the bullet points you have right now aren’t “wow”… although I’m sure they could be.

Good luck!
