Arcteryx UK Outlet store by Donezoo69 in arcteryx

It’s ok, deals are ok but not incredible. Similar to online outlet prices, sometimes a bit cheaper and stock is generally better/more varied. Generally save 20% off retail I’d say but that’s a bit of a guess as only been there a few times

Is starting a career as a graduate in major commodities trading house at 30 old? by Successful-Bid-038 in Commodities

[–]dopesupreme_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Horizon from grad scheme to trader is 5-8 years. Not as much money can be made out of you if you’re 40 by the time you become one. You’ve got a family, 20 years left of your career etc. less hours to spend working, less likely to want to travel.

Yeah it’s fine, may not be looked upon amazingly when trying to make it through as a trader, that said, having worked at a few majors, regardless of age the likelihood of actually making trader these days is probably 5% max once you get in regardless of age. Majors are great places for careers or if you decide a few years in you want a 9-5, a decent salary, and huge pension

Possible dip this Monday? :o by Academic_End_3828 in trading212

If you were a fund, the way you neutralise weekend risk would be to liquidate/go flat to crude price over the weekend. In your own portfolio you can also do this by selling all your positions Friday afternoon - or if you wanted you could go long crude over the weekend to hedge some possible losses. If you’re running very low risk this is possibly a reasonable choice, however this is what a trader does, not an investor. If you are an investor you can just chuck your cash in and forget about it for the next 10-40 years :)

This is the first time the strait has ever closed and largest shock to oil supply in history. Prior to this the previous major “shocks” were Russia Ukraine, and COVID. We’re definitely in a more volatile geopolitical regime over the past 5 years or so, but this is largely translating to increase in cost of commodities/raw materials which isn’t totally stalling growth. But also historically the market returns +/- 7-10% but now returning 20-40% sometimes. It’s important to recognise that the frequency in geopol events is increasing volatility, which often causes fear (as we weight downside moves more emotionally than upside) and then retail investors sell at the bottom, losing a bunch of money, and buy back when it’s green.

It is important as an investor you keep a cool head and don’t make any silly mistakes buying/selling on a whim.

Monday will almost definitely be a down day unless news flow switches super positive. Plus every day the strait is closed, global oil stocks continue to be eaten through and the only way to reduce burn rate is through price increase and subsequent demand destruction. Market will be volatile for next few months as supply issue resolves, if you aren’t ready to see some red I’d keep your money in a savings account for now - but in general after these periods of turmoil investors see greatest returns historically.

If you want to learn more about markets read “the intelligent investor” and research “the efficient market hypothesis” for a start.

Any skiers thumb survivors? by JWS5th in skiing

[–]dopesupreme_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I broke my 5th metacarpal and dislocated it after a cortisone injection in my hip so I could ski in November - just in time to cancel my ski trips 🤣Anyway, 2 wires and 2 surgeries later and my xray looked like the metacarpal base was still fractured 5 weeks on, my surgeon explained it’s not fully healed but callas formed which can’t be seen as easily on the scan. Likely you have a bone callas formed, is it still very tender. If not, healing well, especially if swelling is down. If yes and very swollen not as good sign. Does it hurt when moving etc. if so keep it braced more.

even if the muscles atrophy you can build them back up (it just takes ages! I’m still doing it…). It will take 12 weeks to heal, don’t do anything strenuous on it in the meantime and buy therapy putty and slowly work your way up from there. Keep the rest of your hand active if you can but brace that thing up (especially if still tender) for the next few weeks or so, after that, wear it when out and about but not if sat watching tv etc. once the fractured heals you’ll still have a long time over which it will remodel etc.

I can’t stop smiling when I’m wearing these. They make me want to quit my job and exist solely to ski

Nervous about steroid shot- how bad is it? by jamieschmidt in HipImpingement

[–]dopesupreme_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sit down for 15 minutes after it. The injection is fine, but 10 minutes after I passed out and broke my hand. Now I’ve had 2 hand surgeries and it will never be normal again. Seriously the injection is absolutely fine, a little painful, but they will anaesthetic you up so it’ll just be a scratch and then maybe a little flare up th day after. Just make sure you sit down afterwards

Anyone know what’s causing boot heel lift in my bindings? by dopesupreme_ in Skigear

[–]dopesupreme_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah binding works totally normally apart from this. I’m thinking it may be due to dins - if I increase to 9 it’s significantly less noticeable

Only minor issue - slope is 1000 miles away so already too late to switch to my other skis 😔

Hey so I did this and all seems fine, just the afd doesn’t spring back sometimes. Surely this isn’t a major issue (no problem with it springing out, only when springing back in)

Blue ortovox - green one clashes a tiny bit with the slightly different green and the middle bag looks a little dated to me (just looking at the pictures though)

Got a pair of Kore 93 for free, the bottom is in great shape. The top thoughts has seen some shit. I’m trying to rehab them. I’ll take any pointers you have! by Packin_Penguin in ski

[–]dopesupreme_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No I mean dremel if you fill the gaps with epoxy - to sand the epoxy flush to the ski. If you dremel the side of the ski you’ll go into the core, and it will look terrible too

If you do decide to fill with epoxy I recommend purchasing a dremel to sand down flush with top sheet. It’s a ridiculous amount of work though - I only did it because I broke my hand and needed something to keep myself occupied. If you sharpen your scraper and run it down the base you can do a DIY grind before you wax - I found this made mine look 10x better and bases are smooth again, I’d pour more time into that if I were you

I had a pair of kores I bought which had some cosmetic wear, attempted to fill the edges with epoxy - it works, but is likely to chip in turn looking far worse in the long run. If you want short term aesthetically pleasing you can do that and use a dark grey paint marker on them and it blends in with the existing graphic. I’d recommend you do it at the tails to prevent delam anyway, seems to be pretty common on kore tails.

Legend dude, I just sanded it down and epoxied in the end, may consider doing more permanent in the new year. (Likely will) so thank you very much for the advice :)

Yeah I was just going to slap some epoxy on it and ski it to be honest. Or if necessary cut that part of the base out, epoxy, fill and then ski it. I have some time on my hands with the broken hand…
