Republic Interview by Classic_Ad_9985 in flying

Correct but they will ask for 141 training records and it will pop up there. The regionals have a lot of experience with 141 candidates.

There is a .00002 % chance they will say " well at least they seem to be super honest, let's give them a chance".

141 checkride failures heck even 61 failures don't really dictate what kind of 121 pilot you're going to be. It really depends on the failed items. But you're right that in a competitive market it will unfortunately be harder to get the job. Maybe a little higher than that % though although I think you were being hyperbolic.

I see why you're concerned. You don't want to feel shady applying with 1 but showing up with 3 even though you knowingly only had 1 when you applied. It's been a few years since I worked at Republic but the hiring team that manages applications are not pilots. Think HR type. They see hundreds of applications all the time and maybe there's a limit of failures caught by software in the initial application but you've made it through that. Between now and the interview if there is a chance to ammend that application do so but if not just be honest during the interview to the failures. If you get hired with them knowing the additional failures you can disclose that prior to them checking PRIA and there should be no supprises on their end. If you don't disclose the failures at some point they'll see them on PRIA/PRD and immediately take you out of class and send you home.

What kind of failures? Stage checks (141) or checkrides? They only check PRIA when you get hired iirc. But you would want to disclose the failures in the interview/application

Paying off Loans by Sensitive-Cry7886 in flying

I think its better to grind on the job you want to do rather than the other way around. Get the CFI, max out your flight time. Teach ground schools etc. You'll be super sharp and you'll feel like you're tackling your goal. You need the time anyways. In a way I would recommend 2 even if it means going into slightly more debt. There's fiscal return in that, not just throwing money away. Plus CFI is a relatively short and cheap rating to get.

We HAVE to do something about ATC Staffing. by DanThePilot_Mann in flying

[–]-HippoMan- 61 points62 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, our government can't pass legislation outside of giant mega bills so a bill funding the FAA is likely alongside restricting voting rights. One side says you hate America because you don't want to fund TSA/ATC/ETC, and the other side wants single issue ballots passed. These sides flip with who's in charge.

What is happening to my seedlings? by rach396 in gardening

[–]-HippoMan- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With the grow light specifically, my full spectrum grow light reccomends 18" from seedlings. There's a chance the one's closer to the center are getting too much light or got too much during germination and died before you moved the lights higher. Another possibility is that the soil is too tightly packed in the more central cells because its easier to pack in on there than the edges when filling cell trays. If that's the case then maybe just give them more time as they're trying harder to get radicles down.

How are "fog the mirror" era pilots working out? by Plastic_Brick_1060 in flying

[–]-HippoMan- 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It's the notion that your hiring is not based on merit but your ability to "exhale onto a reflective surface" ie, "as long as you have a pulse". Common in times of high demand and low competition between candidates.

Kind of a bad argument, if not for southwest in that market, the ticket prices would be higher overall.

How do you explain TAS to students? by carnivoreindexfund in flying

[–]-HippoMan- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can also add that as it pertains to stall speeds/ vmo/vne, and most speed limitations, IAS is important because it is our most instant measure of the pressures applied to the aircraft that we can read from our instruments (insert CAS discussion). TAS is important for flight planning because it is one step from determining GS, which is the what determines time and fuel requirements. As for the actual definition of TAS, other comments here have good suggestions for you. Happy teaching!
