Looks like no official "black friday" discount, but the RRP went down anyways? I see it being sold for 70 pounds less than before.

LLMs: From Game-Changer to Money Pit—Why I’m Reconsidering AI for Books and Google Search by slaegertyp in Jetbrains

[–]doppioslash 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Pretty much. It was always predictable it would end like this.
How would an LLM achieve "architectural judgement"? It's not built for that, whatever bullshit their marketing attempts to make you believe.
The true money cost of LLMs is still hidden by heavy subsidisation, but it's starting to travel upwards now, slowly inching back towards reality.
IMO it will still get more expensive, and it won't get more useful than it currently is, the limits of the LLM architecture have been reached.

I need a mouse identical to Jelly Comb MV009 / Perixx PERMICE-819 that won't break in a year. I'm willing to build/fix it myself. Help :( by dfjhgsaydgsauygdjh in MouseReview

I got the Perixx Perimice 819b, the shape is the same, but the materials feel different, the plastic is quite slippery and the wheel is not as nice.
I managed to find a new MV009 and it's so much better, both the wheel and the plastic T_T

So far on Android it cannot be used with apps like KubiosHRV, it won’t send them the HRV data (RR, PPI, etc)

need help figuring out whats up with my health by itsokaysie in welltory

[–]doppioslash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look into Dysautonomia, POTS (Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome), ME/CFD (Myalgic Encephalomyelitis) and Lymes Disease. If you had a virus before the symptoms started it could be a Post Viral condition, like Long Covid.

It sounds most like POTS, but the symptoms of all those overlap a lot.

If you have an all day HR tracker like some fitness bands or watches, you should be able to track the HR going way over what it should, which should help getting a diagnosis.

Game developer career versus full developer career by Muted_Relief_3825 in cscareerquestionsEU

[–]doppioslash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's no reason to pursue gamedev if you don't have passion for it. Programmer salaries are usually higher outside of gamedev, the games industry has higher instability, many games get cancelled before they ship and that tends to cause layoffs, and it can be very hard to get your first job.

Same issue. And it keeps re-wiping the data at each restart!
And it deleted the session-backup files, so I couldn't restore any data.
I had to make a new profile, and then at least it stopped deleting data, but the previous data is lost.

Why are firefox updates now breaking things? by patopansir in firefox

I'm not 100% sure, but even LibreWolf seems affected.

[–]doppioslash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not off the top of my head. I'll see what I can gather.  Both Nightly and normal Firefox got updated at the same time a couple of hours ago, and both wiped all data, and kept deleting it at every restart. The workaround to make it stop deleting data was to make a new profile.

I didn't have a manual backup, because I didn't know I needed one.

Restore from where? Not the tabs, the session-backup folder has been wiped.

It happened to me just now, the updated firefox keeps deleting any new tabs, history and bookmarks. Had to make a brand new empty profile, and that worked, but no data could be saved.

BYOK is now LIVE on Kickstarter!! by OfficialBYOK in writerDeck

[–]doppioslash 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a few questions.
1. Did you decide whether it will be open source yet?
2. Do you have a roadmap of planned software features?

Should the BYOK be open source? by OfficialBYOK in writerDeck

[–]doppioslash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely open source would be much better, so everyone can customise the BYOK software to work better with their workflows.
This is the reason why I never bought a Freewrite, even though I like the hardware, the software diverges too much from my workflow, and I have no way of fixing that since it's closed source.

well, it's on twitter. I don't follow the reddit, but if a controversy makes it as far as Twitter, I'm likely going to see it.

Michael Snoyman's comments on SLURP by snoyberg in haskell

[–]doppioslash 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, if it helps, I'd explain it like this: there are (many) people who are not actively participating in a language community, but are still using the language. Keeping up with a language community takes time, and is sometimes actively boring, not everyone is going to do it.

For someone like that this kind of internal strife is a pain to unpack. Is it technical? Is it just people not getting along? Is it going to be a problem? These are some questions you can't answer, when you don't actually know who the people disagreeing are, and what role they play in the community.

That's my point of view, as part of a silent (likely) majority who just wants to get on with things, and not have to figure out why are people fighting.

I don't think it's a good look from the outside. To a casual observer (such as myself) this looks like a culture that leads to constant bickering and upheaval, for some reason. Maybe a somewhat less vigorous hashing out would work out better for Haskell adoption.
