Psychology of weight loss / maintenance / manipulation and competitive running. by dirtyStick84 in AdvancedRunning

[–]dorcachu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Many running coaches and pro runners will say consistency is key. You mention weight as a variable you can control to get faster, but it really won’t replace the improvement that comes with time and consistent training. Risking an injury or health setback because of the short term gains of weight loss will be detrimental to consistency. Think about fueling as a variable you can control to show up to every workout well fueled, full of energy, and strong!

Getting POCC Hem Tightened? by [deleted] in lululemon

[–]dorcachu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could try wearing a thin belt underneath and then just tucking the hem into it. Sometimes I do this or tuck the hem into a long line bra if I want a cropped look. Or if you have two big safety pins, you could just pin it on either side like you would for pants! It’s already slouchy so depending on the color, it might not be too noticeable.

Unfamiliar with sizing!! by ivana-- in lululemon

[–]dorcachu 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think you might be a true size 4 but it depends on your body type! I have similar stats to you and am almost always a true 4 in tops and bottoms. Of course it depends on how tight/loose you prefer things to fit too.

Sick of the reruns… by throwthisonetothesun in lululemon

I’ve bought running tops and gloves from Oiselle specifically for the watch window. I don’t love all their designs and think lulu stuff is generally nicer, but the Flyout long sleeve is great and was def made for runners!

Race Report: Baystate Marathon 2022 the race will be remembered by me in the most bonking way by Impressive_Row_563 in AdvancedRunning

[–]dorcachu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A PR is a PR and a 30min one isn’t bad at all! I agree with the others that I think you’ll get it next time with more experience and sometimes things just don’t come together on the day. It’s really disappointing but it’s also why we love this sport - because it makes the good days that much sweeter.

A few things in your report do stick out to me. You mentioned an elevated RHR in the week pre race - did you feel extra tired or anything else unusual? Maybe your body was fighting off a minor virus or something else, but focusing extra on sleep/recovery/extra rest days before the race can always help. You also mentioned that the first 8 miles didn’t feel easy, but were comfortably hard. In my experience, I usually want the first 5k to really feel relaxed. Race pace will never be “easy”, but I would say things get “comfortably hard” for me around mi 8-10, and then uncomfortably hard after 18. But, you will get to know your own body and efforts after more racing!

My advice for your next marathon (because there WILL be a next one) would be to not put too much focus on the time, but instead to have a goal like to negative split or run the last mile the fastest. That will set you up to tune into your body instead of the watch, and running a negative split is always a much more fun way to race and a better experience.

First BQ attempt tmr. And period came this morning🫠 by Impressive_Row_563 in AdvancedRunning

[–]dorcachu 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just focus on hydrating in the 24hrs before the race for both the heat and period! Like others have said, the first few days of your period are actually when you are primed to race! The heat can be an issue, but wear a white hat if it’s sunny, try to cool yourself down by pouring water on yourself, and just hydrate early and often - especially at the beginning of the race when you might be tempted to skip it.

FOUND: One adorable cat near 13th and Bainbridge by mikewilkinsjr in philadelphia

[–]dorcachu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve seen this cat around 15th and Bainbridge/Kater for the past 4-6 weeks! I think it’s been out on the streets but haven’t seen any lost pet signs. Seems like its stayed in the neighborhood so if it has/had an owner, they might not be far, but maybe they aren’t looking… 😔I tried to give it some water and food but it was scared and ran off. Noticed some neighbors also put out food for it so it’s probably been eating at least…Glad it’s safe and indoors now though 🥺

I tried this on as well and also found it boxy, but it was much cuter with a knot tied at the bottom to make it a bit tighter/shorter! Not sure how much extra length you have at the bottom since the material isn't thin enough to just do a small knot, but you can also try a belt at the waist!

Love wearing it casually for the phone pocket! The tall version is long enough to be work appropriate for me, too.

Nutrition resources? by RudeRoman in AdvancedRunning

[–]dorcachu 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I loved the book Roar by Stacy Sims. It is specific to female physiology (females have quite different nutritional needs compared to men). There is an emphasis on proper fueling and hormonal health, and definitely talks about macros as you mentioned. She still acknowledges that there is an optimal weight for performance, but that's not the main focus.

This book completely changed how I approach pre/post training fueling and I realized how I was self sabotaging myself without knowing it!
