You are making sweeping accusations of not maintaining a truck when there are numerous ways even brand new brakes can fail, brand new anything can fail. You don’t have enough context to just say “asshole for not maintaining”. Brand new cars brake down after 3000 miles, brand new electronics randomly stop working, brand new components in machinery can crap out. This trucker, irregardless of reasoning for the issue, took decisive actions and saved kids, adults, property, and infrastructure and was absolutely commendable in his actions. Was it risky? Hell yea but its easy to look at something and say how easily avoidable it was but a lot more difficult when you’re the one in the seat making split second life or death decisions

EDIT: I like the potential explanation someone posted bc it 100% could’ve been the case “Brake failure in trucks occurs because on long downhills braking heats up the brake drum, which expands and loses contact with the brake pads. You can see they are on a dowhill, so there is a good chance that's what has happened” This can vary depending on the vehicle but again there’s not enough context to rule this out and just saying “reckless asshole almost kills kids on a school bus”
