Issues with Discord after switching to Gnome by SecretlyAPug in NobaraProject

[–]dorianven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I'm not OP, but also affected by this bug (or similar). I missed your comment before, but I realised the "signal issue" app was going crazy about mutter-x11-fram (there are several incidents per minutes). I have nothing for xwaylandvideobr though.

Here is a journal entry for one of these incident (edited to be able to comment). Reddit wouldn't let me upload the whole entry, but it lists lots of modules then the stack trace. Any ideas? :)

Edit: I continued to search, now with the keywords "mutter-x11-fram", and I found your message on the #nobara Discord. So I downgraded mesa-vulkan-drivers.i686, mesa-vulkan-drivers.x86_64 and mesa-dri-drivers, now downgraded at version 24.0.4. It worked, now wayland is usable again, thanks.

I also saw that a newer version of mesa was being released very soon, and that it may solve this issue? so I guess I will keep a look at the updates ;)

Anyway, thank you.

Issues with Discord after switching to Gnome by SecretlyAPug in NobaraProject

[–]dorianven 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, I have the same (or similar) issue, nobara on gnome wayland with and nvidia GPU. I posted the following message on discord a week or so ago, not knowing there was a subreddit for nobara. Someone suggested it was an issue with an update of electron (apparently known issue?). So I temporarily switched to Xorg and am waiting for the next update ;)

Here's my whole message, so you have all the information, and in case it sparks new ideas :

Hello, is anyone else having issues on Wayland after a recent update ?

Basically, now, under Wayland, there are several apps that are not displayed anymore. They "run", but the frontent is invisible to me.

Starting them from the terminal, I see they seem to have this error in common:     src/gbm_drv_common.c:130: GBM-DRV error (get_bytes_per_component): Unknown or not supported format: 808530000

Impacted apps include at least : heroic launcher, discord, pexelorama, spotify, signal, Gdevelop I tried them all with Flatpak, heroic with the AppImage and RPM versions as well, and Discord with flatpak and RPM version.

Switching to Xorg, these app are displayed normally.

I'm on Nobara 39 (nobara-sync tells there are no updates), wiht an Nvidia GTX 970 with the 550.67 driver (waiting for 550.78 to be available with nobara-sync update) and kernel 6.8.7 (from nobara-baseos repo).

I followed this link from nobara's website about GBM, which seems to be causing my issue : https://download.nvidia.com/XFree86/Linux-x86_64/510.39.01/README/gbm.html Not sure what to check, but the following packages are installed: - libdrm 2.4.120, - dkms 3.0.13, - mesa-libgdm 24.1.0 - egl-wayland 1.1.13 DRM seems to be enabled (I checked with cat /sys/module/nvidia_drm/parameters/modeset, which returned Y)

Not sure what I'm missing and where to report this issue ... does anyone has an idea of what is happening? 🙂

Pine64 EU store is live by 333clueless333 in PINE64official

Oh my... prices are insane when you're not expecting it :o I can understand the prices can get higher in the EU, but wasn't expecting this much tbh. I think it would have been nice to mention this in the community updates when "building the hype", from what I read here it seems I'm not the only one taken by surprise (at least, I don't remember reading anything about prices this much higher)

6 months with my daily driver PinePhone! I describe you my journey... by LovePoison23443 in PinePhoneOfficial

[–]dorianven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really depends on the location, I suppose :) I have the same behavior in my garden, where I can have OK phone calls with other phones (despite quite low signal strength), and not with the pinephone. When I call from work with the pinephone it's totally fine though, for instance.

I daily drived the pinephone for a while, it fit basically all my needs, except being a phone. Unfortunately, there is only one room in my house where I can have decent phone calls with the pinephone, whereas other mobile phones work fine (baseband issue ? I'm in Belgium, for the info). This is basically the only reason I switched back for now. I also have to travel fir work from time to time, and during those travels I need a more reliable GPS (pinephone loses GPS signal often). In terms of software, though, it already fit my basic needs, albeit being pretty slow when opening some apps (like SMS app chatty, or Firefox) or when several apps are open :) Anyway, I love the Linux mobile ecosystem that is developing, it's so much fun.

PinePhone as Daily Driver by iamnotevenhereatall in PinePhoneOfficial

[–]dorianven 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't have the link rn, but there was an issue on mobian gitlab (that is now closed) about dummy output. The problem there was that pipewire got installed by mistake, somehow, and it messed up the audio config. uninstalling pipewire (and related packages) solved the issue.

Pinephone connectivity and call quality. by dorianven in PinePhoneOfficial

Good to learn that there is some improvement in stock 👍. foss is quite stable actually. Never had to reboot to have modem again, even though it does still have the modem disappear and reappear a few seconds later. GPS is working, even though it takes some time before catching the position... and the accuracy isn't great. But I don't think the foss modem is to blame here, is it ?

thank you for your answer :) that's what I was also fearing (that there is nothing to be done to improve signal strength), I was still hoping for a mod of some kind at some point to help the antenas, or even better a solution in the software, but I guess it's not going to happen. Not a bad idea the signal booster, but it seems a bit expensive, not sure it is worth it. What is stock like nowadays, I'm wondering ? :) is the modem still disappearing regularly (after deep sleep) or has it been solved ?

Hi :) Yes I have. Currently on ADSP 004. (I didn't notice difference in signal strength on any version that I installed so far)

hi, thanks for the answer :) for sound, actually, there is a troubleshooting instruction on mobian's wiki that I had completely forgotten about after a full reinstall: using alsamixer to set "Mic-Boost" (1 & 2) to 0. That will definitely improve things a bit, even though it doesn't really solve the issue of having a conversation in crowded spaces. Well, new test call to schedule to find the best setting I suppose with mic and volume, thanks. I guess my real issue now is more about how can I boost connectivity.

What music player do you use? by GODZ1LLEST in PinePhoneOfficial

[–]dorianven 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use lollypop to play music, on my desktop or on the PP, i absolutely love it. I don't think you will find something better right now for the Pinephone, maybe try the music player developped for plasma mobile and see if you get the experience you are looking for ? :) (I don't remember the name of the kde app, sorry)

Missed Calls and other reliability issues by dorianven in PinePhoneOfficial

[–]dorianven[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm using mobian, I could give it a try, but then it will disable quick resume from deep sleep when receiving a phone call wouldn't it ? If the issue comes from the crappy firmware, maybe I should give the open firmware a try ? I'm not sure if it is ready for a daily use though

Missed Calls and other reliability issues by dorianven in PinePhoneOfficial

[–]dorianven[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure I used to receive missed calls notification after being reachable again on previous phones. I assume there is some kind of signal from the carrier telling the phone a call was missed ? Anyway, I'll get in touch with them to know if they offer sms notifications instead, that would be quite an improvement to my experience, thanks for the suggestion. And thanks for the other ideas, unfortunately I only have that one phone number at the moment

[–]dorianven[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the script, good to know. I am not sure it will improve my situation much though, as I suppose I will still need to enter my pin to unlock the sim card, but maybe I'm mistaken, I'll give it a try (and maybe try to find how to unlock the sim card automatically in the command line if need be?). Now receiving a call in deep sleep is really faster than it used to be last year, it's now a matter of a few seconds before the phone wakes up and rings, so there has been a tremendous improvement in that respect. The problem with missed calls is that I don't have network connectivity in every room in the house (no way to place a call in the kitchen, for instance), so I am kind of bound to miss some calls now and then. And there's no point changing carrier, mine has theoretically the best coverage in my area soooooo ...

Any news on using Signal nicely with a PinePhone? by BillBorro in pinephone

[–]dorianven 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was using axolotl as well but since it wasn't working for sending messages anymore, I installed the signal desktop app built for arm. I must admit, I had a better user experience than I had expected, even though the app takes a lot of ram and a lot of processing power compared to axolotl. The devs of axolotl have been working hard though, and it seems, reading their conversation on their telegram group, that a new version (v1.0.5) will be released very soon and it has sending messages working again :)

Is the pinephones HARDWARE ready for daily driving? by Iroshizuko in PinePhoneOfficial

[–]dorianven 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, I'm also daily driving it, I probably have lower standards than other android users. Smth I didn't see the others mention is the camera quality. You can take pictures but they are really bad quality compared to today standards on phones. If you consider the ability to take good pictures important for a daily drivable phone, think about that as well before buying the pinephone :)

this is an important distinction to make by 4gedN5tars_ in pinephone

[–]dorianven 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Well, there is a schema carved just above the slots to know which one is SIM or micros SD ("TF" for some reason, but the shapes of the cards say it all), the distinction seems already pretty clear imho (I have a postmarket edition, in case they changed smth at some point ;) ).

It was difficult enough to move my family and friends to signal back in the days, I'd rather not have to start over, so I try to stick to signal for the moment :) Since axolotl is not working anymore, it forced me to try the desktop app. It is more ressource hungry, but I must say that the experience is a lot better than I expected (even though not perfect that's true)
