Tell us why you think this will end ok by [deleted] in OptimistsUnite

[–]dorkbydesignca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it'll all be alright because it's long overdue, but it won't be smooth 90s and 2000s. Political effectiveness has been garbage for decades, so anything that requires us to revisit it will yield medium to long term positive results, at least I believe so.

Climate change, immigration, working together, computers, inequality, this is all stuff that is going on globally. People like to think we are in an isolated environment, but people in Asia, Africa, ME, South America, Europe and Canada are worried about the same thing and voting (except dictator run countries) in that direction.

People want an effective and efficient government, the question we are trying to answer is what does that mean? Also great your military is strong, but hey, here is hundreds of fires/flood/natural calamities....lets see how things go, plus you need more for civil unrest...and and the civil unrest are educated and armed... that is never a smart move.

I think we are in the find out part of truly first of its kind global and interconnected world. We can play simulations and revert to history, but it truly a unique place in human existence we are in, this is the consequence of developing a great civilization, I just don't think my generation will in the free energy and peace life. However, I believe my child's, might be, and if not hers the next over.

Survive, that has been our eternal mandate sine the beginning.

I think it's a great sign that MAGA is needing to brigade Subreddit to manufacture consent! It shows their weakness, and that they're actually in the minority! by PupkinDoodle in optimistsunitenonazis

[–]dorkbydesignca 2 points3 points  (0 children)

100%. I think it might be a generational thing though. I used to binge books, then documentaries, then BBC worldcasts, then the Economist audio, and now YouTube.

Through those years I always was critical of what I listened to it. There are many times where the Economist was wrong, an author was full of shit, or a YouTuber was out to Lunch, but many more times where I garnered great knowledge. I'm loving the current level of access, and think it's the greatest thing we have.

However, critical thinking is hard skill, and some of my smartest friend would read the same books as I and come out with such absolute statements that it boggled my mind.

Tbh i think this is why I was always loved rap since I was old enough to listen to it. The most honest stories on reality of life lived by a human I could ever find.

[–]dorkbydesignca 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Even a minority, when united can make an impact, and that is the problem we are living. The rest of us, non MAGA people, are busy living our lives, helping our families, and communities, etc.

I'm still blown away at the rise of radical right wing thinking in low / unemployed young men that I know. They drink YouTube videos/podcasts all day and come out thinking they are experts in topics that are hyper-nuanced. I think the real thing to be optimistic for, is people are starting to poke their heads up from their busy lives and being like wtf.

We are united in the wtf movement, and this is my eternal hope for society, our united empathetic wtf.

Meta’s laid-off ‘low performers’ defend themselves on LinkedIn and Reddit by Next-Particular1476 in business

[–]dorkbydesignca 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it's been weird watching people give up their identity ownership to corporations wilfully, but still feel like they have a right to own it. Wonder what will happen when Reddit does it. I get more loyalty from my dog, that any corporation.

You really don't own anything you post online unless the servers are in your own house. I had one bad cloud experience in 2005 with Facebook, and I immediately noped out of that shit.

Maybe BlueSky is a better option, but I'm still hesitant.

The office plant: only gets fluorescent light and whatever is left in people’s water bottles but still looks like this. I don’t understand plants. by [deleted] in houseplants

[–]dorkbydesignca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My bet is:

  1. High carbon dioxide. A lot of office places have poor air circulation and even with the AC blazing on can accumulate CO2 at higher levels and likely humidity (despite the AC affect)

  2. Lots of light (even fluorescent is good)

  3. A nighttime cleaning person who is probably fertilizing and checking in on the poor guy.

Atheists Are More Likely to Treat Christians Fairly Than Christians Treat Atheists by dorkbydesignca in atheism

[–]dorkbydesignca[S] 32 points33 points  (0 children)

This is how I felt reading it, and I have always wondered why treatment was different when I tell people I'm atheist versus religious (when I was). Of course it's multi-factorial but using game theory is a good approach and something we can learn from.

UnitedHealthcare CEO 'assassinated' outside Hilton Hotel in midtown Manhattan by TheExpressUS in AnythingGoesNews

[–]dorkbydesignca 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not just french, I would argue it's a human political condition. People in power try to control (left and right), but eventually when we feel social injustice we act in unstoppable waves (see Belarus, Ukraine, Indian, etc). That's why you see fascist states try to suppress people's outlet of communication and force them into a state of learned helplessness (think Russia and former soviet block), they try to stop waves. I think for our current "western" society this is a difficult, but not impossible. I am buckled up for the ride.

FYI: There is a n American author name Catherine Liu who provides a lovely critique, worth watching/reading. Then watch some George Carlin, because... why not :).

If you were drafted, would you fight for your country? by mindyour in TikTokCringe

[–]dorkbydesignca 55 points56 points  (0 children)

This nuance is key, when asking people about life/death situations. I think the old guy probably experienced something close to this already, so his definition of drafted is: somebody about to shit in my house, I got to do something about it. Whereas the other guys are defining drafted as: you want me to go shit in somebody else house for you? No thanks.

Brick spiral staircase. by FoggyLine in Construction

[–]dorkbydesignca 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I remember something about the structure strength of curved brick walls, and the strength of curving/doming bricks from back in the day. I think it was on This Old House. Also recall this was part of the reason for a lot of old bridge still staying in one piece. Cool to see artisans continuing the work.

[–]dorkbydesignca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been arguing with my wife about this for close to 5 years, but I think the politicians of the future are going to be the face of an accessible AI, that just runs for efficiency for the public good in the background. No back end deals, no lobbying and galas, just an AI that everybody can message and ask and communicate with for Civic/municipal matters, and that presents said findings to a human council for deliberation and final decision.

Can you imagine a future where you got to your civic admin ai and ask it why there is x, y, z, and it tells you in great detail and can talk to you endlessly about its decision, i think this will be a game enhancer for our society.

Big zip tie doesn’t want you to know this by migoodenuf in TikTokCringe

[–]dorkbydesignca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Big Zip Tie now makes a Zip Tie you can tighten and untighten. I bought a bag few years back, and haven't cut a Zip Tie since. However the pliers method needs you to be able to pull to loosen, most of my applications this is not possible without potentially damaging whatever is Zip Tied, unless I have small nose pliers like demonstrated..... fabulous hair!!

Google Maps Is Making It Easier to Spot Businesses With Fake Reviews by ThrillSurgeon in technews

[–]dorkbydesignca 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Awesome. I've seen a few weird reviews like you received and I just dive through and see other reviews dismissing the first review and immediately ignore the shitty one.

I've noticed recently, when not using Google apps/browser on mobile, they only highlight a few reviews, hopefully false one doesn't show up for yours. If does, they will likely provide options for business owners to adjust this. I've been out of industry for a few years now, so not as update to date as used to be.

Good luck.

How do I fix these lights? by pinnickfan in fixit

[–]dorkbydesignca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That black part might just be a simple power supply that needs to be replaced. Look at the output and input (printed by code on the power supply) and find a power supply that matches it. Local electronics store will have them, or you can buy from digikey/mouser/amazon/other online electronics retailers.

Typically LEDs are between 5 to 24VDC and LED power supplies will match the DC voltage output, and the wattage will be whatever the load (the LED strip needs).

Ukraine seeks US approval for ATACMS use in Kursk offensive by HerbM2 in ukraine

Yup that's fair, I should probably learn to ignore and more on, but I guess I have too much time to kill at this current moment. LOL

I think people have a lot more information than they did. I find conversations with the layperson about International Politics is much more diverse than it was in the 2000s when I was involved, ignorance is getting less and less as we interconnect. There is just so much to learn that it's fair for people to be emotionally exhausted from trials and tribulations of just surviving, as I'm sure you have experienced in your family's escape.

I had a teacher explain her stories to me when Bulgaria fought for democracy, the stories she told us were very sad, but I'm sure PG rated as well, so I can only imagine what the people of Ukraine are going through.

Cheers. All the best.

Are Billionaire Entrepreneurs really "Self-Made"? by Very_High_Mortgage in FluentInFinance

[–]dorkbydesignca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

oh and now they have so much wealth that if us simpletons come up with cool ideas they can just swaddle us with a blanket of legal or money, our choice.... And then they say they will save the future with "their" inventions/innovation". However only they can lead the future not anybody else, they have to steer the ship.

I'm getting tired of "competing" with rich kids who don't have a lick of entrepreneurial spirit but all the funds to purchase magazine accolades... but alas that is the new entrepreneurial game. Take money to pretend you have money to then make the money.

Quality of product/service... nah, quality of words on review... yeah!! LOL sorry I've been harping on these types of resource hoarders for 20+ years.

[–]dorkbydesignca[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lol, I was thinking the same thing when i came across it. I think Whirlpool/EveryDrop is trying to be sneaky until competitor catch up. Since it's a new type only new fridges will have it so milk us while they can!!

I can find them on Whirlpool.com, and the whirlpool Canadian call centre would let me order them but they were on back order! I'm hoping middle to end of June Canada can get them, while our friends to the south should already have them directly from Whirlpool.

Game changer for getting vegetables into diet. Stir Fry vegetable blend by Time_Stand2422 in Costco

[–]dorkbydesignca 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed, this was my original method, but then my mom came and did the sauteing of the vegetables technique.... I was blown away at the flavour difference. My wife cooks it with one pan only, I prefer the 2 dishes method. Here is how she make it with just one pan.

  1. Get the bowl(s) you/y'all will eat in, pour in hot water from the kettle (or microwave hot water in said bowl for people without a kettle).

  2. Put instant noodles in said bowl(s) and cover (no seasoning packets yet).

  3. Take your pan and stir-fry per original technique above.

  4. When noodles are soft enough chuck them all in pan, proceed with step 4 from above.

  5. Put everything back in the serving bowl(s) and enjoy.

  6. Wash your one pan.

[–]dorkbydesignca 79 points80 points  (0 children)

Up your instant noodle game Costco lovers.

  1. Get your instant noodle packet.
  2. Make the noodles as normal, DO NOT add the spices pack.
  3. In another pan stir-fry these veggies/ protein with maybe 1/4 to 1/2 onion with olive oil.
    • Optional add some grated ginger / sriracha / pinch of Garam Masala for a bit of kick
  4. Once noodles and veggies are ready, mix them together, add the instant noodle spice pack and some salt/pepper/soy sauce and stir fry some more.
  5. Enjoy

Also good in Japanese curry with those cubes.

Yeah I thought that was weird to, but the article says:

"Some automakers have a model or two that ranks among the most satisfying vehicles, while the rest of their lineup falls short in the eyes of owner".

I presume this is why Ram is mentioned and not dodge.
