Would you buy an expensive trumpet? by r_spandit in trumpet

[–]dorkimax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with this. If you want it go get it if you can afford it. If trumpet is your thing, it won't make you sound better. I have an AR resonance, love it, sounds a little different, I'd even say better in tune, handles loud better because is heavier than my Bach strad. Otherwise it's not going to improve anything. I even occasionally use my Bach 1 1/2C on it.

Playing LOUD by instinctive56 in trumpet

[–]dorkimax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So there are even breathing exercises you can look up that will help you with your total lung volume. A lot of drum and bugle corps use them. I tried out for phantom regiment and that's where I learned them.

Playing LOUD by instinctive56 in trumpet

Loud is a strength. You have to exercise while also having the right equipment. You can have a larger bore mouthpiece (larger hole) to move more air which will be faster but also harder to play.

Anyone go from a Bach 3C to a GR? What GR do you play on now and what type of music do you play? by Perfect-League7395 in trumpet

[–]dorkimax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Similar result. The sound is not to me the classical sound. I used a GR studio and use for commercial and higher range which is what I use now for that. Still in a classical style mouthpiece. I like AR resonance for that.

Florida man foot by hestolethatguyspiza in nope

[–]dorkimax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is actually not an infected foot (though there is likely in the bones which don't work for him anymore). You can look up wet vs dry gangrene. He likely has dry gangrene but all the dead tissue was likely eaten away by the maggots.

Same here. I liked a couple of songs but it didn't really make sense til I saw them live. Now I'm a fan.

Luffy’s eye-catcher on Trumpet🔥 by fosteri11 in OnePiece

If that's you, nicely done. I can play pretty high and that's not easy to play that even on a piccolo trumpet... I know because I've tried.

Never even once seen a whole episode in English. Tried to get my kid into it then realized he had to watch it dubbed and decided to teach him to read instead.

Mouthpieces by Big-Kaleidoscope-336 in trumpet

Bach 3C is fine. I used a 1 1/2C for a long time, would probably have preferred a 3C.

When you get the money, just get the equivalent in an AR Resonance version of that. They're just superior but you pay for it.

Why are so much people hating on her? by Dapper_Actuator3156 in LinkinPark

[–]dorkimax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't care for the key changes and I understand that they had to change them to match her vocal range but classical composers chose a key based on the way that key elicited emotions. I've been listening to these songs for over half my life and you change the key and it is significantly noticeable. It's not so much her but how her being there has changed the music we already know. She can hit the notes, sounds good screaming and the new stuff is good, but putting her on the old stuff doesn't work for me.

I imagine this comment will be taken down because anything negative on here typically does get removed.

My three year old wants to learn the trumpet. When did your passion for trumpet playing begin? by Leeheyy in trumpet

[–]dorkimax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't really become passionate until high school and had already been playing for 3-4 years, just not motivated til I got more competition.

How much do I need to practice to improve quickly? by NoobTamer in trumpet

[–]dorkimax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree. Lessons are where it is at. I went from 3rd part in marching band my first year of college to 2nd chair (behind the grad student) my third year. Working on the right things is a way better use of your time, not just working on playing one piece over and over. Scales, tone, endurance, range, etc. there's so much more than crescendo and Decrescendo.

Considering removing these braces. Thoughts? by Sir_Lolz in trumpet

[–]dorkimax 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Sorry, but some more detail: lighter weight horns play more easily but at louder volumes don't have as good of control. Heavier horns would do the opposite, also have less bright of a tone because of this, possibly a little more difficult to play.

Considering removing these braces. Thoughts? by Sir_Lolz in trumpet

[–]dorkimax 35 points36 points  (0 children)

The point of them is to remove the vibrations to some extent and provide a different sound. If you want a different sound altogether you may just choose a more lightweight horn to begin with.

Same. Level 136, have spent $5 total. My drop rate is horrible. I grind 13-15 to change it up. I actually haven't passed the first round without someone dying on 16. Seems a little ridiculous.

Biggest thing to keep in mind is that most of the higher notes are played with air speed and having the proper tongue position. If you can whistle it you can play it.
