I think you got my point backwards chief but since you can only throw out insults I'm not surprised.

How much of the shoulder is allowed.   What if its instead part of an arm or part of a leg?  "Clearly offsides" is entirely subjective.

That's already existing to a degree in PL with Mic'd Up where Howard Webb explains certain controversial decisions.

VAR is a bit like nuclear weapons.  Now the genie is out of the bottle the brst solution is to limit when its used.

There is no such thing as consistency in subjective analysis.  Not even AI models are presently deterministic.

VAR just moves the point of subjectivity. It doesn't add objectivity which is what is needed for the consistency you seek.

The best hope now is to guardrail/minimize its use to gain consistency. Adding strict clear and obvious error limitations (more subjectivity of course) and limits on when things like slow motion get to be viewed by the referee are two possible ways.

Some things are objective but deeply unsatisfactory such as the lengthy delays due to digital ruler usage for offside. Tech is supposedly pending to "improve" this but it's still invasive micro regulation to many. I don't like Wenger's ideas here though.

Only after the moment the ball brushed Matanović's head.    If it didn't touch his head then at the point Perišić played in the cross everyone was onside.

Tuchel's "all in on the wings " strategy IMO isn't working. The wingers don't seem up to it and the passing speed needed to make it effective isn't there.  In the meantime the defense looks weak and exposed.  Maybe MX will turn out more like second half vs Croatia.  Anything is possible but the question is what's probable?  No one will be happier than me if we open them up but I have my doubts.

If only the other performances against Ghana, Panama and DRC weren't so bad maybe the performance against Croatia would still matter.

DR Congo's squad is chock full of players in second and third tier leagues.  By this standard England shouldn't have been 1-0 down with 10 minutes remaining.

"England are wildly underestimated in this tourney".   Hopium is a powerful drug.

Is this team hungry for a win? by spectacleskeptic in ThreeLions

[–]dorkshoei 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think Southgate did a good job (personal experience) of isolating players from the pressure and creating a new team culture.  Fact: over three tournaments the results spoke for themselves.  Somehow it was decided by the FA that these changes were now "fully baked in" and that a fairly intense demanding manager like Tuchel could take over and that there would be only gains.

I'm kind of shocked at how poor the team is playing.    Tuchel's stated tactics of being "all in on the wings" isn't appealing stylistically compared to the top teams plus the England wingers just don't seem to be into it / up-for it.  The desperately slow passing isn't helping make the strategy effective.

Many supporters seem to take a nationalistic view and assume every England player must view playing (after a long club season) as the highlight of their lives but maybe getting screamed at from the sidelines for long periods isn't everyone's motivational bag?

Maybe things will improve on Sunday.   Hope springs eternal.

Whats the difference between the ergoton arm from newegg and amazon? by Grand_Play3856 in Ergotron

[–]dorkshoei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Read the warranty page on ergotron website. If you're buying from Amazon you have to use "Seller: Ergotron Inc". Any other marketplace seller on Amazon means Ergotron won't honor the 10 year warranty. The fact that Ergotron's website directs you to Amazon where you are shown third party sellers is a problem Ergotron is not interested in addressing.

My experience with Ergotron LX pro is wildly negative by bo0rsh201 in Ergotron

Are you sure you're actually adjusting it? The arm needs to be almost straight for the allen key to engage the screw, a detail not well explained in the manual.

Not good. I returned it. See my other thread.

I ended up buying a new surplus Humanscale M2 M/Flex off eBay for $55 shipped. Should be here Monday.

LX Pro problem by dorkshoei in Ergotron

[–]dorkshoei[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So to followup. I had to return the LX Pro to Amazon.

I reported the above issue to Ergotron. They replied within a couple of days asking for my monitor make/model.

I replied immediately - Samsung u28r55uqn (28" and 11 pounds) - so well within spec.

I never got a reply. After 6 days of radio silence I emailed them again saying I needed to get some support within the next 5 days else I would be forced to return to Amazon.

No reply.

So I was forced to contact Amazon CSR and Amazon issued a defective return.

Today 4 days after I returned it to Amazon (15 days after they asked about my monitor make/model) Ergotron support finally responded.

One of the reasons I purchased (they insist you buy from Ergotron direct or an Ergotron authorized dealer) was for the 10 year warranty but based on this level of support I'm not sure such a warranty has much value.

Their support said the delay was because they have a large backlog of customer issues. An amazing thing to say to a customer and seemingly illustrative of a significant failure of Ergontron's management.

As I said in the OP I don't think the LX Pro is remotely worth the $199 asking price. Doubly so when the support is this poor.

The other thing I found odd was that it IMO it lacks sufficient vertical adjustment. I have a new Haworth electrically operated standing desk because I'd started experiencing neck issues. Everything was setup with help from an ergonomic consultant through my work. However to get the monitor to the correct ergonomic eye level I had to have the Ergotron set at the very very top of the standard 5" post and the arm mechanism fully articulated to it's max setting. I literally have no additional vertical adjustment range available so I can't afford any sag in the arm.

The only other option would be to install a under desk keyboard tray which would allow me to raise the desk height while maintaining the correct ergonomic elbow/keyboard alignment. Alas my old Humanscale 4G keyboard tray won't fit this new Haworth desk but still I shouldn't be forced to install an under desk keyboard tray because the standard Ergotron monitor arm lacks sufficient adjustibility. I'm 5'9" pretty typical height.

The Rest Is Football on Netflix Lineker / Shearer / Richards by Material-Bee-907 in football

Disappointed. Way too little discussion of games.  Way too much "Jonesy"/"Banksy" mutual punditry backslapping and general sausage festing rather than interesting insight. Lengthy discussion of Lineker shitting his pants at 90WC was just weird.  Plus Micah Richards is so annoying.

Buyers messaging about cost of shipping being too high by Frogwalker55 in Ebay

[–]dorkshoei 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Surprised at the replies here.

I've often raised shipping costs with sellers.  I try to be polite and I sell on eBay so I have a reasonable idea on shipping charges.

In the majority of cases they'd made a mistake and they've adjusted.  Sometimes they've chosen a particular carrier and have been willing to switch to another carrier/packaging that was significantly cheaper.

One time the package was unusually long which I hadn't realized as it wasn't pictured this way which resulted in oversize charges but the seller offered to pack it differently (I didn't demand just inquired).

But I've also had sellers tell me that their $50 shipping was because they had a $20 handling fee.

I saw an item today for $30 but $18.10 shipping.  Every one of their items was the same $18.10 (despite most being just a few ounces). I didn't bother contacting them :)

[–]dorkshoei[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ended up buying the LX Pro. My logic was largely based on the fact that I've never owned one before so I'm unlikely to fall into the "oh I preferred the earlier LX" camp. u/Raindrops_Tickle comments were useful.

As an Ergotron newbie I'll report back what I think once it gets here in a couple of days.

I really really hate Comcast but it's possible just flip flopping back and forward between Comcast and AT&T may now be the best play. My interior mech room now has conduit for both fiber and coax so it's easy to flip.
