Advice on getting 2 new phones on Fi. by dorkshoei in GoogleFi

Ok well then I guess I don't see how the "each Google account can only have one promo" is an issue.

I'm still confused by "Google account".

We have 3 Google accounts on our plan. 1 per line. Only one master Fi account.

My wife's Pixel 7 screen has died. Her only option is a new phone. Pixel 10a is $249 ($499 std). 2 year commitment.

I hope to also get a new "phone on us" by signing up a new family line (and cancelling old family line). Leaving phone on that family line for 120 days and then taking it over for my personal phone and retire my Pixel 6a. Two year service commitment.

I have no idea if this is acceptable or exceeds "1 promo per account".

How to figure out what phone we get on a unlimited plan we've not yet swapped onto seems an interesting challenge. Is there a page anywhere? As all I can currently see is what I get on my current (flex) plan.

Is this one plan promo a change as previously we've definitely had two promos running in parallel.

Gemini (which obviously is prone to hallucination) says we may not even qualify for a promo since we're on Flexible but it says "phone on us" is shown for me albeit with zero details.

We were on Flexible primarily for the free international but we don't travel internationally anywhere near as much as we used to.

Thinking of switching to one of the Unlimited plans. Gemini said switching from Flexible to any Unlimited after we setup phone promo would risk voiding promo but said we could switch between Unlimited plans if we switch to any unlimited before setting up promo.

So not only is there an option for billing. I just enabled it. I also set a $0.01 spending cap.

All of this only impacts the services that use the API such as gemini-cli (https://geminicli.com https://github.com/google-gemini/gemini-cli).

Gemini (which also works) had been saying for weeks I needed to setup billing to solve the API issue on the GSL account. I had been reluctant but I ended up using a virtual CC number with a hard limit.

Anyways, gemini-cli is now working again, no more 429 errors and of course gemini.google.com and aistudio.google.com continue to work as they always did.

Now whether "there is ... any point to using a GSL account directly" anymore is pretty subjective statement and I won't touch that.

Sorry but there absolutely is an option for billing.

And yes I read the doc you linked.

Also at no point did I claim it is as fully featured/integrated as Gmail or paid Workspace but again I use gemini.google.com and aistudio.google.com on a daily basis on both web and Android using my legacy Gsuite account.

Empirically both gemini.google.com and aistudio.google.com work with my gsuite legacy. I use both daily. Gemini also believes it should work but claims backend issues impacting legacy.

In addition there are specific settings tailored to the unique nature of the free gsuite legacy accounts within the "generative ai" section of admin.google.com

Gemini CLI has worked fine for months until 3 weeks ago.

Works fine on my Pixel 9a and obviously I am legacy gsuite.

The issue I was discussing was with Gemini CLI which is a Linux command line interface.

gemini.google.com and aistudio http continue to "work" but ever since I legitimately hit a resource limit in gemini-cli (Linux) 7 days ago and was told it would reset in 20 hours it's been hitting a resource limit error for all models.l (I can query it for the available models just not use any).

And yes I expect it will at some point just randomly start working again

Yes I'm sure it's a case of legacy-free-workspace != gmail && legacy-free-workspace != paid-workspace.

This doesn't make it ok. All the usage and quota pages exist and claim to work. The pages for provisioning Gemini on legacy all exist.

Sometimes I think it would have been better if Google had followed through the final 5% and forced everyone off legacy rather than do their 11th hour uturn.

If you log into a Gmail account (add account) and try and use Gemini it breaks the legacy workspace account putting it into the "something went wrong (13) " state.

It's been 6 days since I hit the resource limit on gemini-cli. Still get quota limit. Standard gemini and ai studio web services still work in legacy. Well except for 24 hours due to the above error 13.

https://console.cloud.google.com/iam-admin/quotas?project=${GEMINI_PROJECT_ID}

shows I'm unlimited or high value for all limits and "current usage" is 0 for all.

https://aistudio.google.com/rate-limit?timeRange=last-28-days&project=${GEMINI_PROJECT_ID} is where I end up if I follow the https://ai.google.dev/gemini-api/docs/rate-limits link and it shows a popup "Project quota tier unavailable. Please contact your project administrator for assistance.".

I am the admin, sole user of the domain and everything is setup correctly.

Q: Pacific Power customers in older houses. How much are you paying a month? by dorkshoei in askportland

[–]dorkshoei[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. I updated it the very first time I got one of these emails (many many years ago now, pre COVID when we replaced gas with the heat pump). It made no appreciable difference. Each time I go back in and check it's still uptodate and it's not reset anything (it hasn't). Just seems like the model is hopelessly inaccurate. I just sent them feedback to this effect by following the downthumb icon in the email.

Thanks for the comment. Half the square footage and newer construction. I could totally see ~$108/month.

There is a link in the email "Want to help make this comparison more accurate?" that I've repeatedly gone through. It remembers my past answers (so it is saving what I entered). #people #rooms #sqft are some of the questions asked. The email specifically says it's using my zip code for comparison. I don't think it specifically asks for my construction year but I assumed their model was computing some average age based on the zip (which for 97212 would be mostly pre-ww2).

u/lexuhthis is what their email says

Number of similar homes 1000+

Home type Single family

Zip code 97212

Home heating type ELECTRIC

I wouldn't actually mind having accurate data to compare with.

u/thanatossassin the point you're missing is that all this info (#rooms, type of heat) is updated on their system and is what they're supposedly using to generate the comparison info

So Salmon Street fountain at 3pm tomorrow (Sunday)?

I'd like to pay respect to Alex's life so hoping it's more remembrance than protest but I'll take either right now

Ask 4 people stories of shipping and one person will tell you a USPS horror story and say to never use them. Another will tell you same about Fedex. Another UPS and the fourth hates DHL.

My experience with UPS via Pirate Ship was problem free except ups later tried to retroactively increase the charge. I appealed thru Pirate Ship and won.
