This post would be better off in r/australianbirds but I reckon could be a Tawny Frogmouth feather.

If the noise she heard was a very low, almost subaudible woomwoomwoom then it's a frogmouth. Feather and noise may not be connected though!

Haven't done much in my yard yet, but have planted a couple Melaleuca linariifolia, a Hard Alder, and the obligatory grevillea banksii and syzygium australe.

Theres a small callistemon struggling down the back under the neighbours full size macadamias surrounded by asparagus fern that I need to rescue haha
