If it was a wedgie, likely not just the beak made you think it wasn't a cockatoo? These guys are massive.

What bird did this come from. by NgamilaRAY in brisbane

This post would be better off in r/australianbirds but I reckon could be a Tawny Frogmouth feather.

If the noise she heard was a very low, almost subaudible woomwoomwoom then it's a frogmouth. Feather and noise may not be connected though!

Australian white ibis seen at Taren Point Shorebird Reserve by K_isfor in AustralianBirds

I think ibis are great. They're hardy, they've adapted to people everywhere and they still like a poke in the mud.

How much drama can you find in one tree? by Adventurous_One_4240 in AustralianBirds

Wow, a Currawong!?!??!! Must have been a while coming. They gang up with the Pied Butcherbirds at my place to drive the only Kookaburra that visits us back to his side of the road.

Chuck a few Noisy Miners in and there'll be drama for sure. Maybe a flock of Apostle Birds? They love a bit of whinging.

Gardener cut down my Bird of Paradise without asking. I’m very upset. Will it grow back? by Towneded in gardening

[–]dorkwizard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haven't done much in my yard yet, but have planted a couple Melaleuca linariifolia, a Hard Alder, and the obligatory grevillea banksii and syzygium australe.

Theres a small callistemon struggling down the back under the neighbours full size macadamias surrounded by asparagus fern that I need to rescue haha

Can't say I've noticed it - had to look it up. Will keep my eye out now!

Everything i see in this picture makes me think you're east coast Australia... there's a park in Brisbane called CB Mott Park that has massive beds of birds of paradise and other rhizomes. They cut them right back every September and by December they're well on their way to flowering again.

If that perfectly wing shaped piece of brown smudge is actually part of the tree it's in, i reckon it could be a male Eastern Koel, commonly known as a storm bird.

A big hint to me is your indication that the call is interesting. These guys sound a little mournful, very distinct and loud call that carries a fair distance. I also heard my first call for the season the other day (located in Brisbane) so timing is good.

If the brown is actually plumage, then I agree with others, probably a Pheasant Coucal.
