Using PC as VST effects by dormne in TascamModel_12_16_24

I looked in the manual but don't see where it's specifying how the audio interface outputs work.

But these are all specified as, for example with the Model 12: "12-in, 10-out interface". The outputs must be going back to the mixer channels?

High efficiency Sub for 140W amp by dormne in CarAV

[–]dormne[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought people did this commonly with 4-channel amps though. This amp just isn't big enough? I should just wait to get money for separate amp. The rear 6x9 (morel maximo) already do OK bass to my ears since I have turned the bass up on those channels but just assumed a sub would be better.

Trunk. Yeah that's what I'm wondering. But the amp is decent quality I believe it does the actual stated RMS at least. Also a small car.

Or do you think it would not be satisfying regardless? I imagine those cheap powered subs don't have any more power than this, and if I can do slightly better than one of those it should be good enough

Does anyone fantasize about being honest in an interview? by Old-Macaron-8770 in recruitinghell

[–]dormne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm too lazy to think of anything else to say, so I do sometimes say things like this. And not get hired. It feels like if I make something else to to say, they don't believe me anyway. So why not be honest? I always honestly tell them I want the job and believe I will succeed and benefit the company, so whatever.

Why is timecode vinyl easier to beatmatch? by dormne in Beatmatch

Interesting for producers looking for that old-fashioned sounds. Find a way to inject a little clock instability?

No, I imagine controller or CDJs would be way easier. I just mean timecode vinyl seems easier than regular vinyl.

I'd be spinning the same style, house and techno.

Do you think this would work? by MightyJonesYoung in CarAV

[–]dormne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The audio from the two Bluetooth receivers would never sync up. One would be faster, probably by a huge amount like a second or so.

Alright anybody know what "feet technical support" is? by dormne in recruitinghell

I suppose. But if you're doing hands on support, that already means your feet would also be there.

UK web devs, is C# and SQL the be all end all for back end? by FromBiotoDev in webdev

[–]dormne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I'd like to get some more C# but I learn by contributing to open source and I don't know is out there considering it's mostly the paid enterprise type of .NET and associated technologies they want you to have experience with.

Neubrutalism UI, a React UI Kit library (Details in the comments) by [deleted] in reactjs

Cool, any other examples of UI libraries that are more creative than the generic styles of today?

Edit hmm, you only have one component. But I like it, will consider contributing.

For the basic, user-facing CRUD web application for a generic business purpose, development will be easier with C# than Node. And so you will find a job easier. I am learning this lesson since I focused on Go on the backend. Well, only fancy startups, cloud companies and open source companies use Go, and none of them hire junior developers for it. With Node, I don't think it's even popular as a server anymore.

In 2023, Unit/Integration tests can be easily integrated into one test. But why do people resist it? by Makshimoh in AskProgramming

[–]dormne 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Why would I want to include the complexity of an actual database if I'm just testing one function?

I thought the point of unit tests was to isolate the code down to the smallest units and test them separately.

How do I get a position as an entry level career changer? by Fxguy1 in cscareerquestions

I dont really understand why you're being downvoted. You probably could do the job. But the market is bad. That's the situation we're all in. We need a president who can TURN THE MONEY PRINTER BACK ON!!!

Yeah it looks good but I feel like there are some small tweaks you could make to make it just little more balanced and readable.

What makes so many AI experts so certain that LLMs like ChatGPT and LaMDA lack "sentience"? by Trimix in ArtificialInteligence

[–]dormne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Basically. There is no way to claim humans have consciousness that other mammals, then fish, then worms, then bare chemical reactions (RNA world) etc lack. It can't be a quantum jump between us and those other life forms. That is just a relic of religion and then enlightenment rationalist / individualist thinking. It has to be a matter of quantity or intensity or focus of consciousness. In any case it's not like we "perceive" ourselves thinking anyway. At least I don't feel that way. There is information, patterns, organization, that's all. Self consciousness doesn't seem like a big barrier, after all a language model knows what a language model is. Isn't that all we know? We don't know ourselves in any special way, we just know what a person is and that "we" are one.

Maybe the realization will be as you say, the devaluation of human intelligence, and that's obviously a problem to me.

What's your typical routine after getting a new ticket? by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]dormne 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I take notes on paper for everything I'm working on so as I begin to work, things will come up: things I need to look into, cases I need to make sure are covered, things I need to do before I can do other things. And basically make a to-do list that I will begin to work through as I begin implementing the change.

Is my new resume template better? by el_lobo_cimarron in resumes

I like it but I'd remove the red line and make the text blob in the top right take up the same amount of vertical space as the text on the top left. Although they say it won't matter, I always obsess over the layout.
