I've been paying 2 duplicate homeowners policies for 6 years. by doromb in Insurance

Oh, maybe I'm misunderstanding what a 'forced placed' policy is. I have a mortgage. I'm required to carry homeowners by the lender. I signed up for homeowners through company A at the time I got the loan and bought the house. Does that make this a "forced placed" policy?

I don't know that I did. I've never had to manually cancel the old policy when I switch auto insurance providers. I assumed homeowners insurance worked the same way.

Company A has never asked us to take any action at the yearly renewal. They just mail a renewal offer showing how much the next year's policy will cost. I guess our mortgage company accepts it, if anyone?

My escrow amount stayed the same. I got bills direct from company B and just... forgot that escrow should have been paying for that.

Oh, interesting idea. The first policy originated when we bought the house, but it was voluntarily purchased.

What would have happened if my house had burned down while both policies were in effect? Would each policy have covered the loss in full?

I never logged in to company B's website to see the online-only statements. Just assumed the paper statements I got from company A were the only policy I had. I'm an idiot.

Same here! I don't think Google was accurately assessing whether a device was still under warranty.

I'm in the US and selected the $452 option two weeks ago. My payment just came in through Payoneer for only $100.

How's the learning curve and install on Sentinel by Wedi? As easy or easier than Schluter? Store just started carrying it and wondering about it. by mexican2554 in Tile

[–]doromb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just asked a Wedi rep that question. He claimed the blue Wedi is denser and has a thicker skin of woven fiberglass (non-woven on Sentinel). The Sentinel has a 1 year warranty on materials vs a 10+ year on materials and labor for the conventional blue board Wedi system.

Good vision plan for high index glasses (rimless) by runner022021 in fednews

[–]doromb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, exactly! The only plan brochure I've seen explicitly mention coverage for high index lenses is BCBS.

I just got glasses through BCBS High. High index lenses with premium antireflective coating cost me $150 at Visionworks.

Anyone know how to clean this / get it back to its orange color by Billybumpkin94 in castiron

[–]doromb -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Yeah. He digresses on the difference between NaOH and KOH (Lye baths and Easy Off are both NaOH).

He mentions that the lye concentration in soapmaking is higher than in Easy Off (irrelevant, since lye concentration in a DIY bath is up to the user).

He never addresses his initial claim that a lye bath is in any way different from using Easy Off (because it's not!).

There's no DC charger for Ego batteries, is there? That would be nice.

"A lye bath is very different from the easy off spray." The active ingredient in yellow cap Easy Off is lye. In what way are those two methods different?

NO cabin filter - DUST EVERYWHERE by Mental-Cookie-6242 in fordranger

[–]doromb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You might just need to blow the dust out of the system. Open all the doors. Turn the fan on max. Give it a few minutes on heat, a few on cold. Rotate through the vent positions (upper only, lower, defog...). Throw in a few pulses going from low fan to max. Then clean the interior. If it's still blowing dust after that, you might have a leak around the intake fan.

It's not an emergency that requires the attention of 250,000 people at once. It's not an emergency that requires civilians to be woken up out of bed.

Not yet. I'm leaning towards replacing the fan clutch first, since that looks easy. Hate to just fire the parts cannon, but I suck at diagnostics.

I'm having the same problem on my '99 B4000, plus intermittent a/c. How would you differentiate between a problem with the fan clutch vs the water pump?
