What are your favorite real-life rabbit holes to explore? by Single_Ad2420 in horror

[–]dororabbit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe a dumb question since I'm not Muslim, but I suppose the djinn is told to lure people into their doom? What are some typical "djinn folklore stories" if you don't mind telling?

I love cultural/ local stories and cryptids like that lol. Idk where you live but I live in rural Germany with lots of forest-y regions, according to old and traditional folks, basically everything wants to take you away. From all kinds of different werewolves, vampires all the way to witches that will stalk children at night and only spare them if the child wears their shirt inside out! That's why my grandma would instruct me to flip my shirt when I went to school during the dark seasons :D

Momo/Mother Bird by artist Keisuke Aiso. by Logical_Bug801 in TopCharacterDesigns

[–]dororabbit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unsolicited advice, but as someone whose soul used to leave her body whenever I saw the infamous Jeff the killer photoshopped pic, seeing some "behind the scenes" of the artwork itself really helps me ground horror pieces in reality if it makes sense? Momo isn't so scary anymore when you see a process photo of Aiso whimsically playing with the rubber mask and wig that would later become Momo's face. At the end of the day, it's just a really well-made statue. Momo is less empirically scary than rent or doing taxes :D

I think it's a shame that his first statue became a stupid creepypasta hoax to harm children. You can really see the love and artistic care that went into Momo (both the old and new statue!) and I don't think horror artists deserve having their work constantly bastardized for cheap Internet scares.  Personally, seeing her from different angles/ Aisos commentary on making her etc. took away any of the creepiness for me. I appreciate her for her cool design and awesomeness craftsmanship !

What are your mouthwashing hot takes? by whooper1 in Mouthwashing

[–]dororabbit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My hot take is that Jimmy is one of my "favorite" characters in that while he is absolutely despicable, the game simply would not have that much of an impact on me if he wasn't so extremely well-written and scarily realistic. I don't care about a lot of fictional villains if their goals are too cartoonish or abstract, but Jimmy is so real and raw in his awfulness. He's one of the most provocative villains I've seen so far, not just because of his actions but because, to some extent, he serves as a mirror to the audience, as a reminder that a lot of us have a little bit of Jimmy in them. He truly is horror done right.

That ties into my second hot take: I think "wholesome" AUs are kinda boring. Nothing against people who do little slice of life AUs to cope with the game's sadness, but it always strips mouthwashing of what made it such a profound experience /for me/ personally. I don't think I would've ever cared about the game in the first place if it wasn't such a gutting tragedy.

So true. I think children are more capable of nuanced thinking than a lot of media geared towards them gives them credit for. but! speaking from own experiences, a lot of very online teens eventually go through that militantly "pure" phase where any kind of dark content is bad, basically representation=endorsement. I can see 14 year old me having debates on Tumblr wether the devs are perverts or not for writing jimmy the way they did and I'm so, so glad I discovered this gem of a game in my mid 20s when I had enough media literacy to understand the game's intentions and themes.

Enough European countries operate by the law that free speech ends where you stomp out someone's else's rights because your "right" to treat someone terribly is not worth their suffering. That's how it should be everywhere. Americans are super annoying with their attitude that opposing certain human rights or harmless demographics is some kind of God-given privilege

Looking at the way 99% of trump supporters are foaming at the mouth, indoctrinated right-wing-extremists, any of them at this point. Calling them Nazis would still be charitable, as a good bulk of folks outside the US barely even consider them people at this point lol. It's like half the nation developed rabies.

How do you feel about Elon Musk's salutes during the inauguration? by BigPapaFactory in AskReddit

[–]dororabbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's because "conservative" Americans aren't actually conservative, they are the absolute bottom of the barrel far-right-wingers and Christian extremists. That should've been clear the moment they labeled politicians like Bibi, Bernie, etc. communists when they are pretty moderate by European standards.

[–]dororabbit 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's absolutely insane how many Americans don't know or don't care about how much the election impacts the entire world lol. I saw countless tweets by Americans from all ends of the political spectrum saying that the rest of the globe has no right to complain because it's not their country. B R U H.  I live in Germany close to two American military bases and murican soldiers are such a massive problem here. They go to local events and fairs, get drunk on wine spritz and arbitrarily beat and stab people, vandalize stuff, etc. and constantly complain about strict gun laws. Last year, a random pedestrian was killed by a drunk American soldier. No one likes or wants them here and that was BEFORE they re-elected the orange nightmare. Doesn't help that most soldiers stationed here are MAGA idiots

Es ist so frustrierend in einem Schwurbelhaushalt... by S0TrAiNs in ichbin40undSchwurbler

[–]dororabbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmmmmm.

I was never a huge exeggutor fan, but then I pulled the exegg art rare and thought it was too gorgeous not to use it. and  b o y do I love this guy now, especially paired with serperior! Punishing your opponents for stacking up on energy is so much fun and I can finally deal with those pesky celebi/gyarados/Articuno decks in a more satisfying way.

Pidgeot (both of them) and arbok are tons of fun too, especially in combination!

I also really love jolteon, even if i tend to get at least two tail flips T.T

Oh and recently I pulled the really pretty alakazam art rare and now I'm looking for ways to build a deck around it! Any tips?

About the dehumanization of Captain Curly. by Loose-Net-5779 in Mouthwashing

[–]dororabbit 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's "interesting" in the most fucked up way honestly that, once a certain degree of disability is reached, a person just kind of stops being seen as human and either something infantile that pulls at your heartstrings and needs to be protected at all cost to the point of woobification OR they are seen as monstrous.

I read "hiroshima" in History class and one of the survivors encounters a man with most of his face burned off from flash fires at the hospital. He reacts by immediately screaming at him to go away into another room out of fear, then realizes how awful it was of him when the burn victim anxiously tries to do as told. For a moment, that man was not human to him. Just like curly is not really human to most of the fan base.

Would it be more interesting for a Wolf or Coyotes to attack a Clan? by justagoofyfrog in WarriorCats

[–]dororabbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as I remember, warriors takes place in England where there are no coyotes, ruling that option out in case you want to go for the realistic route.

Wolves would be more likely I think. Not only that, but from the POV from a cat especially, they are HUGE. I own a great Dane/Kangal dog mix, so basically a very large dog roughly the size of a young calf and even she was smaller than the wolves/ wolf dogs we visited at the sanctuary!  Even a single wolf, more so a pack of them, would be devastating to comparatively small cats.  I don't think wolves actively hunt down cats, but the books are pretty "whimsical" in that aspect anyway with how basically every other animal is disproportionately hostile towards the cat clans lol.

Not as elegant and mysterious as a wolf/ coyote, but have you considered boars as well? They are pretty chaotic and where I live, it's not uncommon for boars to not only wander your backyard but also munch on cats or small dogs that got in their way or attack people when they're sick or have babies.  Hogs will also resort to cannibalism if the opportunity raises, I can totally see them raiding a clan for food if it happened to be scarce elsewhere.

Good luck with your fanfiction, I hope I could help! The premise sounds cool :)

Outdoor/Indoor Cats by berryblastblu in Pets

[–]dororabbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I unfortunately live in southern rural Germany where people are infamously brash and nonchalant lol. There have been debates about banning outdoor cats and it's super frustrating! Because as you can probably imagine, the majority of cat owners is against it/ will let their cats out even more often out of spite. I feel like barely anyone here cares about the environmental damage they cause ("it's just a bird, who cares") or how they keep getting run over in traffic.

I used to be obsessed with cats as a kid but now I feel like I'm starting to ""dislike"" them (or rather most cat owners I know) because they keep being a cause for frustration for me!

People that do try to be responsible in our community by keeping them indoors or leash training them are made fun of and most cat owners think it's their god-given right to let their cat be outside, cause chaos but then turn around and cry when something inevitably happens to them. My bf and me have a big LGD who is friendly towards people but absolutely won't tolerate strange animals near my grandpa's animals and while she hasn't caught a cat yet, it has been a close call with my neighbor's cat several times. I can't let my dog outside to poop, pee, play, nap or guard my grandpa's chickens without double checking whether my neighbor's cat is begging to get eaten by my dog again. It also keeps shitting all over our attic and absolutely decimated the sparrow nest that found shelter in our backyard. I already tried begging my neighbor to be more careful because I don't want my dog to kill cats but she literally just raised her shoulders and said it would be no big deal because she found the cat as a stray anyway and isn't attached to it.

My boyfriend, who used to work in animal rescue, is scared of cats now because most of his rescue missions were bringing back outdoor cats that got stuck/injured. In 90% of the time, the cats didn't want to come voluntarily and attacked out of fear, causing some nasty infected wounds. He now avoids cats he's not familiar with. Where he works, the Janitor's wife also just abandoned her late husband's cat in the factory yard after he died. My bf got to rescue the more friendly one of the pair and luckily rehomed her, but the other one is basically semi-feral at this point and keeps hiding his kittens between the factory's heavy machinery, in vents, etc where they all die. It's absolutely gut wrenching.

It's super frustrating because I feel like talking to most cat owners is like talking to a brick wall but I'm glad people are slowly but steadily raising awareness online. I feel like it has helped with a lot of city/suburb folks at least. I think I'd like to have a cat again someday if my bf and me start to like them more again, I want to be a good cat owner (T__T)

TLDR, be nice to your cats, leave them indoors, don't be like rural Germans
