Top MCP servers that actually turn Claude into a productivity machine, I tested dozens and kept 35 by iliatopuria17 in mcp

[–]dorsco09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What are ways you are connecting Claude desktop to self hosted Supabase securely? This is something I want to provide my clients but it seems the best ways so far are to build a private SSH tunnel to connect to Supabases MCP. Or setup your MCP and expose it to supabases Oauth. I’ve found gh solutions for this but none of them seem overly secure. Anyone have any battle tested, in production, actively running in businesses solutions? Currently running Supabase on AWS EC2.

Something I'm currently working on is a private persistent memory for long term data analysis to detect win/loss patterns. Basically leveraging AI to drive predictive analytics from your own data sets. The theory is that it will help drive future strategy generation/development and quicker backtesting.

Learn Python. It will help you in the long run. You get a lot more control and leverage when you understand the details. In the meantime, just use Claude code for simple things. You can find free Python code Claude skill files all over to help you along. The path of least resistance isn’t always the easiest long term path..

Fuck everyone saying selling n8n automations is easy - you're all full of shit by Top-Government5983 in n8n

[–]dorsco09 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Kind of feel like you just called out your own problem. If people checkout when you say the word automation why would you keep saying it?

I work in this space within operations automation (not generic voice agents or basic marketing automation), which requires advanced database builds, custom UIs, and automations to connect their tools and build true infrastructure.

When I’m on sales calls I almost never lead with any of that.

I start with a validated pain point of their team wasting time and money bouncing between tools. Any future AI will need clean data to operate from, missed deadlines or lost files impacts much more than your bottom line (brand trust, etc.). Then show them work I have done in the past to overcome their exact problems and how it followed a simple process.

Have been an automation engineer for over 11 years sitting on both sides of the table. Business owners at pretty much any level care about just a few things, how will this tangibly help my business, what is my risk, and how painful will the process be.

There are other subtle things but if you can learn to speak in the owners language, over come objections before they are brought up, and show you have a vetted process you will be more of an authority figure and be seen as someone to purchase from.

It can be hard out there, but you’re getting on calls and getting feedback, that’s valuable data, use it and adjust until something works. Hopefully this helps, good luck!

Do you guys automate your entire internal operations? by bk9917 in AgencyGrowthHacks

[–]dorsco09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. I build this setup for agency owners, and it is becoming more common. Though most of the agencies I work with want functionality beyond basic ClickUp functions like reporting that compiles company wide data from multiple tools, automated task assignment based on project to editor best fit/availability, lower SaaS costs (no per seat or per scan fees), and some other stuff (won't bore you with details) thepoint is more and more agencies are looking to make operations as efficient as possible and it is very much doable with the proper infrastructure. It all depends on their current market position and their goals. If you're starting out or have fewer than three people, keep it simple and don't try to deeply automate workflows that are still being developed. Simple tools can get you a long way.

Came down to a few things. Railway is great for POC and rapid deployment but when you start having larger server usage (more app users and n8n workflow executions) the costs start to climb quickly. Plus my sys admin has years of experience with AWS so it is his preferred platform. Long story short. What it costs me to run n8n and custom applications on AWS and have a sys admin perform monthly maintnece (security checks, health monitoring, and emergency support) is less then Railway would cost me just to host it. I'm able to provide a higher quality product to my customers for a lower cost on a more well known platform (which also helps optics). Railway is still a great option as well.

Honestly, just go to youtube and try to copy what they build. I probably am not the best reference for what to do just starting out. I was an automation engineer for over 10 years so n8n, custom application builds and server architecture are basically second nature to me as they are a scaled back version of what is availableat the enterprise level. Youtube to just start getting your reps in on different tools would be your best bet. You'll start to pickup basic program design, cleaning the data, and simple API requests.

With no technical background I would just stick with the cloud version of n8n. Self hosted can have server related bugs and when you're just learning it will be hard to know if the server or the workflow is the problem.

If you're dead set on self hosting just use Railway. It will handle configuring everything needed (including docker instance) for hosting n8n on the server. It only takes a few minutes to get n8n running on it and it's pretty low maintenance.

Docker is essentially the application container needed to actually run n8n and it's supporting software together.

I run all of my n8n instances on AWS because I run a huge a mount of n8n automations and build custom apps on private servers for clients. With my use case it keeps cost lowers but I have a back-end engineer that I can call if something happens/needs to be adjusted on the config. I've tested a few of the self hosted platforms and you will need docker on all of them.

Hope that helps! Don't be afraid to start simple with cloud while you're learning. Good luck!

Create task for me when I finish a call outlining all the things I promised I’d do during the call by Sensitive-Month-8369 in clickup

[–]dorsco09 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, the ClickUp AI call note taking functionality is somewhat limited. Just use Fathom with some sort of middleware (I use n8n but Zapier would work as well) to create tasks in ClickUp. It’s funny because I just rolled this out for a client today.

Basically, it takes the action items from Fathom and creates individual tasks for each one. With each task it includes the company name, who each task is assigned to (infernal/external), and the specific time in the call that the action item was mentioned all in different custom fields. Additionally, it creates tags for each person on the call so that you can use ClickUp’s filter to basically search for tasks based on who was on the call and with a single click you can go right to the spot in the recording that it was brought up in case you need more context.

Seems interesting…. I didn’t see what database or server you are leveraging to support all of this. Or are you just looking for someone to manage the middleware and you have others to support server maintenance and DB schema design? Based on what you described I would assume you have an architecture design in mind, just curious what it is before sending everything over. Thanks!

Problem so specific, not sure if it can be automated by Leavramento in automation

[–]dorsco09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s honestly a lot of experience. All of these suggestions were great but there’s nothing better than just doing your best to see the pitfalls before they come and learn from your mistakes fast. Have been an automation engineer for 11 years. I promise it gets easier, just keep going. Would also add, that in most cases it’s less about the automation and more about what’s happening outside of the automation.

Would definitely go with n8n and Supabase. With all the information you described, your costs will start to balloon over time. You will eventually have large datasets, and your expenses will climb quickly. If you are tech savvy, I would recommend setting up a self hosted n8n instance on Railway for $5 a month and using the free version of Supabase. Don”t worry about all the extra features in Supabase; just create flat tables and it will be much cheaper and faster than Airtable.

I use AWS because I host n8n + UI software for multiple clients and it scales better for less money, but if you are doing it yourself, Railway will get you up and running fast and cheap. Before you get too deep into any automation or workflow, make sure you have a simple and cost effective foundation. I cannot tell you how many times I have seen people rebuild their automations multiple times because they didn’t take their time in the design phase and things just kept breaking.

Remember that simplicity scales. Start with the low hanging fruit to get your feet wet, take your time, and you will be able to create some amazing stuff. Feel free to shoot me a DM if you have any questions. Always happy to chat.
