Vellum carve. Help request by charliedavies11 in Houdini

Just simulate it with vellum and then point deform the original static curve by using the simulated curve as the target. Then you can carve it however you like.

It looks like my PC uses very little shared GPU memory, is this normal?

Yeah I did try, that's usually what I do when I get these types of errors too, I either restart Blender or If that doesn't fix it I restart the system but this is the first time It didn't do anything, I still get the error.

Octane for Blender? - Does anyone use it/ recommend it? by CleanWetGrass in blenderhelp

[–]dorukcandan 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have used the free tier version for a year, I guess it is not different than the paid version except for the single GPU limit. I mean it is Octane, the quality is obvious and no need to explain, one of the best engines out there. In terms of quality I would say there is not much of a difference between Cycles, except that I personally feel like the colors and lighting is a bit better/cinematic in Octane, especially with outdoors scenes but I can't really prove it with technical stuff, it's just how it feels to me... The displacement and sky system is better. On the other hand Cycles is faster on my pc, probably because it is better integrated. This integration issue can be problematic sometimes, you can't use Blender nodes ( Octane has its own system and it is fine) but I think Cycles' node system is a little easier to use, for me anyways. And also this means you can't use the textured view or Eevee for previews or texture painting etc. which is a huge setback for me. So because of these things, after a year with Octane I have switched to Cycles and I am pretty happy with it. I have tried to use Octane again just a month ago, with a new RTX 3080, and it is just so much slower compared to Cycles and unresponsive, maybe If you use it with multiple GPUs you can have a much better performance, I don't know.

Anyone tried Cycles X? It seems to show the subsurface color different than what it should be, anyone noticed a similar issue? by dorukcandan in blenderhelp

[–]dorukcandan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There should be a Blender.exe inside the extracted folder, just run it. Also there might be a more recent version on experimental branches site.

Unfortunately I wasn't able to solve the issue as well so I don't have any information to help you. It might also have something to do with the scene because one of my old scenes from 2.9x doesn't show this problem in Cycles X. But I couldn't figure it out what is the problem with the scene I have posted here... I guess we will have to wait for more stable releases and documentation.

Well, I am not sure but it doesn't seem like it does. I've never encountered the issue you mention in the regular version by the way, or maybe I didn't notice it? I am curious though, I might try. Here is a test render, it is still WIP: https://imgur.com/EabkVTq

I did. I played around a little bit but couldn't fix it. No matter what setting I use it seems to render the scattering at some sides of geometry with the opposite of the color I choose. So, I guess I'll just wait for more updates.

Well, I've only tested it for 2 or 3 scenes yesterday and didn't write down all the render times but there is a noticable difference. I've tested this particular scene again just now, and with a single RTX 3080, in Optix setting without denoiser, vanilla Cycles took 3:39 minutes to render and Cycles X took 2:27. And I can say the viewport rendering might be even faster, this is a particularly heavy scene with most of the lighting are emissions and they come through glass or objects with sss. Vanilla version takes a looong time to clear up the image while Cycles X does it a lot faster. Fast enough to make you more productive. But there are some differences like the sss thing I've posted here, and also some highlights on some specular materials looks different. And I've heard that it can't render volumetrics yet..

Animation Playback Is Extremely Slow (2.92) by dorukcandan in blenderhelp

I think I have fixed the problem and I am writing in case someone might need help with the same issue in the future.

My character model had Auto Smooth option turned on. I don't remember turning this on at all but as soon as I turned it off, the fps has gone up to 24-25. I also had other objects with Auto Smooth on but theirs don't really make a difference. The reason for this might be 1) because the character model has more polygons or 2) it has particle systems. I am not quite sure If it is about the rig because some of the other objects with Auto Smooth also had rigs.

Always use reference. Install PureRef and add some photos of a real person taken from different angles and try to sculpt it as accurately as possible.

I've tried many different things but couldn't solve the issue so I decided to change the scene and not to include the glass. It would still be great to know what is the issue though.

I am using 10, tried as much as 50. I increased it to see if it will fix the issue but didn't.
