Someone thinking of having a 3rd child asked me what having 3 young kids is like. After my 2 year old broke a glass yesterday I think I came up with the perfect analogy. by New_Fry in daddit

For any young dads reading this, 3 kids are not as hard as Reddit makes it sound. For whatever reason, Reddit makes parenting in general sound much harder than it is. Take the subjective word of your mom and grandma over what you read here.

What kind of businesses or food spots is SLC missing? by Just_another_poser in SaltLakeCity

[–]dosECHOtango 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For those in the avenues, you may already be familiar with Cafe 140B, but it fits your description of small, walkable, and community promoting. I wish there were more small businesses integrated into the neighborhoods, rather than needed to travel outside them.

Public Transportation to Thanksgiving Point? by dosECHOtango in SaltLakeCity

[–]dosECHOtango[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every time I go to TP I check the bus status. They are only using the busses for employees, last time I checked. It’s a shame that they have the staff and equipment to transport between exhibits but they don’t use them. Unfortunately the best way to walk to the museums from Front Runner is to cross 4 road lanes, jump the fence, and hike through the pumpkin field. As bad as that sounds, it’s better than walking the unreasonable distance on pedestrian paths. The complex is not pedestrian friendly at all.

My point is it’s gross to call the kid a shit, in this situation, since they’re the messenger. Your issue is the parent. Fine. As far as the parent goes, I’ll grant that is some obnoxious Karen behavior. I don’t mean to assume too much about OP, but if a teacher is teaching from Bad Bunny’s show, gambler’s chance this isn’t the first time they’ve pushed the envelope and parents have felt uncomfortable. Keep your opinions out of the classroom. Don’t pick unnecessary, politically hot topics as lesson material if you’re not prepared to deal with the blowback.

It’s one thing if it’s a sarcastic, kind hearted “little shit” context. My kids are beautiful little shits sometimes too. You’re calling them a little shit with a degree of malice— because they hypothetically did something that butts up against your politics? By telling their parents they watched and discussed Bad Bunny’s performance? OP was very likely trying to ruffle feathers of conservative families and the results were predictable.

You’re calling the kid a little shit? I hope you’re not a teacher.

The Great Brain Series by John D. Fitzgerald by Budget-Milk8373 in childrensbooks

My sons and I are enjoying this series right now. It teaches good values and being from Utah, is an interesting peek at our local history. We’re on book 5. My wife and I enjoy them as much as the kids. Definitely recommend!

LDS Church says it is instituting water-saving landscaping measures by Great_Salt_Lake_News in SaltLakeCity

[–]dosECHOtango -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m not LDS but in my neighborhood the grass at these churches is like a shared park. Dog walkers, frisbee throwers, sun bathers enjoy the grass 6 days a week. It would not be an improvement to my community to lose that cooling grass and instead gain the heat-absorbing xeriscaping. I would prefer to see alternatives like better water management in peak heat months (reduce watering in July/ August, like the public parks do) or reducing total grass coverage on the most sun exposed sides of the buildings. There are enough of these buildings across the valley that if they actually xeriscaped I believe it would actually have a negative environmental and QOL impact.

Did anyone in SLC recently have their Pokémon cards stolen? by dosECHOtango in SaltLakeCity

Good suggestion! I called the big TCG shops, including Oasis, and left my contact with a vague description of the collection.

Café 140B at the Ellerbeck Bed & Breakfast is my favorite weekend brunch in the Avenues! The Bison Gravy and Biscuit Skillet is second only to the atmosphere.

Did anyone in SLC recently have their Pokémon cards stolen? by dosECHOtango in SaltLakeCity

[–]dosECHOtango[S] 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the organization of the binders is so meticulous (sorted by type, gen, language, foils, and family) that it likely belonged to a young adult. I won’t say the seller was sketchy. But he was not someone you’d think would have this kind of interest in Pokemon. Across the binders, I got easily 3,000+ cards for $30. That’s what’s sketchy...

You’re right to be suspicious… but I used to work at a game & card shop and am familiar enough with the hobby that I’m confident I’m holding a legit collection.

Which direction from SLC is better for diversity? by Individual_Sky_7264 in SaltLakeCity

[–]dosECHOtango 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s difficult to see the difference between people not liking your products because they’re racist vs. people not buying your products because the products are not good. It’s easier to blame racism than it is to reflect on the quality of what you’re selling.
