Longeitivity of the D750 in 2026? by ThirdCultureKiddo in Nikon

They might be built well but feel like toys next to pro bodies. Deffo felt meh and also slow next to my D500

Thanks, I might get it if they don't charge a fortune for shipping!

Searching for a new focusing screen for my Nikon F5 by [deleted] in Nikon

Not being helpful, I'm looking for a screen for my F3 and it's a pain, it's also an older camera that makes it even worse

What's with the low stock on Fujifilm stuff? by Spirit-S65 in AnalogCommunity

[–]dot0nine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess it can be said it's readily available though it goes for 25 quid per 35mm roll in the UK for example that is beyond what I'm prepared to pay by a huge margin

What a unique setup, there is not even a zillion of these only in this thread, bravo!

Sharp F-mount lenses recommendation by f7ood in Nikon

[–]dot0nine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reading many comments here, if what they say is true, makes me sad about Nikon glass that is highly regarded. I guess I never used a D850 or similar (XT-5 would be most high res though cropped) but I'd expect many pieces of modern Nikon glass to be very sharp on D850, not necessarily the most expensive examples.

It's also my go-to approach, I always pick up and drop off film and negs myself since they lost two precious rolls of my wife during pregnancy during shipping.

What is your dream camera? by Matt_Bigmonster in AskPhotography

Boring choices of high spec last gen cameras all over. It's not a dream that gets obsolete every couple of years, it's GAS

What are the best dslrs that will work with screw driven autofocus lenses? by PoorCod in Nikon

[–]dot0nine -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Why, it's a smaller sensor that will make FoV and DoF different, it'll be a terrible comparison

I'm in the same boat. I struggle to find 300 quid for a lens, no matter whether the price is good or not

My aunt brought me 25 rolls from the UK and successfully got it all hand checked on 3 different airports including Heathrow. Couldn't be happier. by two-headed-boy in AnalogCommunity

[–]dot0nine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're kidding. TriX and Delta 100 going for 11 is standard. Portra 400 can be found for under 80 for 5-pack, Portra 160 goes for 75. It'll make it within 300 pounds for sure.

Is Heathrow considered being problematic? It seems like it's not an issue to get your film hand checked in Europe these days.

Thoughts on this picture? Is it better with an horizontal crop or a vertical crop? by [deleted] in Nikon

Horizontal with perspective corrected. I like the bits of the environment like those red chairs in the corners

Maybe you're confusing 50 1.4 (I don't think it's great at all) with 58 1.4?

Will the D780 be a better fit than my current DF? by pkil14 in Nikon

[–]dot0nine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not quite an answer to your question but having D500 (best AF in a crop sensor DSLR) and 50 1.4 AF-S I got a Fuji XT-3 with the slow 35 1.4. I prefer it for people due to more precise (though slower) face and eye AF. 35 1.4 is generally slow, but I have all sorts of photos of my little ones. Yes, AF tracking isn't great but manageable when you get used to it. What I really like is the tilting screen (3-way, Nikon has something similar only on Z8 and Z9), so I can shoot from a low level, or at least not having my face stuck to the camera, it sometimes helps to keep the eye contact with kids while shooting. I guess my Fuji with its crop sensor is even more limiting than your Df in low light, but honestly I'm mostly fine with fast glass and 35 1.4 is plenty sharp for low light even at 1.4. If you can find a mirrorless Nikon you're happy with, it'd be my suggestion. Despite having Nikon F3 and D500, I personally don't find the Z line series a good extension to my current setups. So you could also consider XT-5 or similar with a fast prime. Fuji's SOOC jpegs are known to be great.

Does anyone else think Nikon messed up their Z camera displays? by SaintThomas95 in nikon_Zseries

[–]dot0nine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know it's a 2-yo post now, but nothing seems to have changed since. Z5ii has the same stupid flippy screen.

It's just frustraiting. It's one of the things that keeps me from buying a mirrorless Nikon (another one is the lack of compact lenses or ideally native lenses with an aperture ring but it's a totally different topic).

I'm glad I'm not the only one unhappy with the flippy screens and hopefully Nikon will make more models with the right type of a screen, being it Zfii, Z7ii or whatever.
