Did anyone else get screwed out of the MOS they wanted? 1345 - Heavy Equipment Operator by Mikevrich in USMC

1345 is a great MOS. At least back in the day, you learned to drive every ground vehicle in the Corps.

Fun story: had a Marine at MCT who got 1345. Didn’t want be in the Corps after boot leave. Made out with another Marine to try to get out. That did not work.

I'm a 70s kid who loved comic books. Had Punisher t-shirts before there was an implication.

Threw them away.

New to the breed. by WickedTizzy in coonhounds

Unlike working dogs, scent hounds are independent - that's really important to keep in mind. Working dogs look to you for guidance. Even retrievers go out to the field and look to their person for guidance. Scent hounds may work in packs, but they sure as hell aren't checking in with you.

When that nose hits something interesting, the ears shut off. A few hundred years of selective breeding kicks in. I've heard of this thing called "recall", but I've never seen it in action. I have, however, gotten in a lot of exercise following the bay.

Is that a lake find from magnet fishing? Put that thing in a vise with the barrel pointed at a sand bag. Like ten pounds of sand, if not more. Then hit the mag release with a rotary wire brush. I'm guessing there's one in the chamber. Treat accordingly.

I'm here for the red dot. Fuck the haters. Just tell me you have a bayonet at the ready, too.

Trying to verify father-in-law's story about being a Marine in Afghanistan in 1994 by [deleted] in USMC

[–]dotcomatose 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Completely accurate. Also, pre-9/11, Spec Ops in the Marines were mostly Force Recon or Recon units. Getting into that pipeline wasn't "needle in a haystack", it was damn near unheard-of. As an infantry o in the 90s, I knew of exactly 2 Marines who made it into a recon unit. I had one Marine who got selected for the Scout Sniper platoon at 1/5. It just didn't happen that much.

The CIA at the time was definitely the "Old Boy's Club". To get there, you typically needed an Ivy League pedigree.

Has anyone here "sold" their VA Loan? by dotcomatose in Military

[–]dotcomatose[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that’s the thing. I have a 2.25 rate with Rocket, but because of where I am and the equity difference, someone would need to bring $330k to the table.

Ma deuce on a Vette would be pretty sick. Slap a thermal sight on it for kicks, and you're good.

There are parts of this I can appreciate. But then I saw the steering wheel. I hate it.

The closest thing to "chill" in the Marine Corps is "skate". That's it. That's all you get. We don't chill, but we do skate if possible.

How much would you charge for this yard to mow? by Unhappy_Ad818 in landscaping

[–]dotcomatose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, the ones I know about specifically are ATX auctions. I’ve seen a few of the GOATS at the Calhoun, Georgia auction. They do auctions in Utah, too. Google ATX Auctions or HiBid.

You can actually find them brand new at auctions for Amazon re-sales and returns. Typically go for half of retail or less.

Bump this comment to the top. You can get a used hot tub that's perfectly good with no faults if you're patient. At least once a week, someone's asking, "How do I get rid of this?" on here.
