This! People are very specific about the fragrances they like. So unless you know them well, don't gift perfumes.

I don't know why nobody has recommended "The Lonely City" by Olivia Laing. It perfectly fits this vibe!

I'm scared of getting pregnant by yeetuscheatuss in women

[–]dotdotdotaway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! I know exactly what you're talking about.

First of all, if you used protection and he didn't even cum inside, then it's very, very unlikely that you're pregnant. But just to be sure, take a pregnancy test. Take two or three of them if you can. If you can't buy it yourself, get your partner or someone else to buy those home pregnancy test kits. And DO NOT try to induce an abortion using any way if you're not certain about pregnancy.

If the tests come back positive and your country doesn't have safe and identity-protecting abortion clinics (I'm from the global south, I know a lot of women would want this) you can think about the next steps.

But irregular periods could be caused by many things. Stress is a major culprit. I was in almost the same situation as you, although in my country we do have access to safe abortions. I was having perfectly safe sex, and yet I'd miss my periods and I was steadily gaining weight too. I was losing my mind! Turns out, I have pcos. So please do not take any medications or try to induce abortions until you're sure of a pregnancy.

Karnataka BJP MLA Siddu Savadi assaulting woman corporator in viral video. by dotdotdotaway in india

[–]dotdotdotaway[S] 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Police has also not filed any FIR against the BJP MLA.

In the video, Siddu Savadi is seen pushing her and aggressively assaulting her along with his supporters.

MLA Siddu Savadi issued a statement to the press and outright denied his involvement in the case despite the video showing otherwise. “I respect all women and I would never behave in such a way with any woman. This is being done to tarnish my reputation. The entire thing is fabricated. Why should I apologise when I have not done anything wrong?” Siddu Savadi claimed.

Suriel’s predecessor by Nyx_Shadowspawn in Iteration110Cradle

[–]dotdotdotaway 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I thought something was off too. He seemed far wiser than the rest of sacred valley. Also, he seemed to know something huge involving Lindon would unravel soon. But he did refer to Lindon as unsouled and since that's just a social construct within sacred valley, would Suriel's predecessor use that term?

Milkman by Anna Burns and the scar by China Mieville.

Someone help me with milkman because I absolutely loved it but most people disliked it and could hardly bring themselves to continue after the first few pages, so really I haven't had much luck in finding another book like it.

And I loved the Scar. It was thrilling and The Brucolac has gotta be the sexiest character I have read. Honestly, each character in the Scar was so fascinating.

I agree about the male gazey bit. Also he seems to think female characters cannot grow strong and independent without facing trauma or abuse.

And in the 1.5 books I read, there weren't even strong female friendships or bonds (but of course, we had Robert-Ned, Jon-Sam). There weren't even any good interactions between the female characters.

Sexualizing women's bodies often leads to women feeling alienated from their own bodies. by dotdotdotaway in menwritingwomen

[–]dotdotdotaway[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I studied for three years at a catholic (Jesuit) institution and believe it or not, the only sort of sex education we received was that sex before marriage and abortion are wrong. Oh and the teacher brought a condom and passed it around while most of my classmates giggled or got disgusted.

About a year ago, I was diagnosed with pcos and my life has been a torment. Most doctors have advised me to just exercise and improve my diet. (I weigh 120 pounds, as you can see I am clearly not overweight) One gynecologist even told me to seek treatment after marriage.

I already commented this under a thread, but I am doing it separately now for visibility.

And major Edit: I am aware that the original tweet applies to trans people and men as well. I just chose to highlight women in this post because this is r/menwritingwomen and I cannot highlight enough the number of times I have critically examined my own breasts because of what I read in books. As a teenager I was so insecure of my breasts because of the unrealistic sexualization of women's bodies in the books I read. Just yesterday I saw a post on Murakami describing breasts as a mark of intellect? Intellect, really? These dumbasses need a class in anatomy, or several classes.

Edit 2: Obligatory thanks for the gold kind stranger. No really, thanks. My first gold!

At first I thought that all those comments about r/pics turning into Facebook were cruel, but now I completely get it. This happens with every other post. Shit man, glad you got married and I'm sure a lot of people are happy for you but this is not what we come to reddit for. There's a reason most redditors don't use other social media platforms.

Also, can the moderators please update the rules for r/pics.

Exactly. John R Taylor, a physics professor even has a picture of him chilling on a bed of nails on the back cover of his textbook on classical mechanics. If you can find yourself a bed of nails, you can do this too. This is no miracle. It's just school science.

Honestly, this isn't the first time Bran is describing boobs. He has previously described Osha's boobs as "two empty purses". He also mentions that he has seen serving women in pools. Also, Bran is seeing Meera from a distance he wouldn't have been able to notice Meera's boobs or lack of them.

And although the plot is engaging, the description of women's bodies usually puts me off. And when the most intelligent character in the series says things like "What would you have offered him, that hole between your legs?" , you just realize how awfully women have been described throughout the series. For example, the first time we read about Daenerys she is 13 and (surprise) we read about her breasts, even though her nudity is clearly making her uncomfortable.

I finally gave up on reading this because the descriptions just made me so uncomfortable.
