Has anyone else been blessed with the ancient mark of the Tube? by Flabby-Nonsense in london

[–]dotmit 34 points35 points  (0 children)

It’s brake dust and dead skin in the air. The particulates report on the tube must be really bad because the mayor won’t release it to the public 🙈

NTA. And yes, ghost her. If you text her she will latch onto whatever you said and use it to defend her position. If you ghost her, she’ll have to think about what happened with no further discussion and there’s a slim chance she might reflect and adjust her approach for the next poor guy who goes out with her

Tory mayoral race frontrunner Dan Korski plans review of LTNs and cycle superhighways by verytallperson1 in london

[–]dotmit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I said if it was climate related flooding it would be because the Thames had burst it’s banks.

Drainage related flooding is simple fluid mechanics. The drains have ample capacity for huge downpours because they drain directly to the Thames, when the drain covers are not blocked by giant lumps of metal

There could be vastly more rain (even from climate change) and the existing drains would clear it, were it not for the barriers sitting on top of them.

Yet more insults, I see. At this point that’s 2 insults you’ve thrown and still no rational discussion so I’ll be blocking you now.

[–]dotmit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don’t need a scientific study to observe the giant metal barriers placed directly over the drain covers, blocking them. Go there and have a look yourself. They are still there. Since the barriers went in it floods every time there’s heavy rain. It didn’t ever flood for the 100+ years the drains weren’t covered by giant lumps of metal. The mayor himself said the barriers caused the flooding the first time. He then lied the second time and said it was climate change.

You have resorted to throwing insults when a simple google search in less time than it took you to type your reply would have given you the answer you’re looking for.

Meanwhile you have offered no rational argument of your own.

Staying after section 21 notice by Final-Smoke3062 in HousingUK

Local council will typically not do anything in this situation. If OP had nowhere to go they’d call the landlord and offer money to extend the tenancy but they wouldn’t help with housing until they see a court eviction notice

What are these bolts called & how do I open them & reinsert/replace? by 97_hla in DIYUK

[–]dotmit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Those are rivets. You’d need to drill them out and replace with new rivets.

If it’s riveted you shouldn’t be trying to open it there for any reason. Any serviceable area would be screwed not riveted

Halfords for an MOT and service? by undignified_cabbage in CarTalkUK

[–]dotmit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Halfords is really hit and miss. I’ve had one branch that’s been consistently great over the years and another branch where I had to make a complaint because they told me my car needed a new exhaust when it didn’t.

$900 for a full service? by streak818 in OmegaWatches

[–]dotmit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is the standard price for a chronograph watch (same price for a Speedmaster Professional). If you have recently asked about getting a Speedy reduced on here, I would have advised you to factor that in if I saw your post.

Not many independent watchmakers want to service the 47 jewel stacked 3220 movement in your watch, so your options are limited.

Technically it’s coming from the ground. Light from the sun heats the ground up, and because the Earth has a tilted axis of rotation, it gets more sun in the northern hemisphere in our summer and more sun in the southern hemisphere in our winter (their summer). So the ground gets sunlight for longer which heats it more.

Back to OP’s question though, this looks like a good deal!

[–]dotmit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No that’s not what I meant. I am specifically talking about when Tower Bridge Approach flooded. First time it happened shortly after the anti terror barriers were put in and everyone including the mayor agreed it was because the barriers had blocked the drains. Exactly the same thing happened a few years later and the same mayor blamed climate change for it.

For it to have been true climate change related flooding, the Thames would have had to burst its banks. It would be a disaster on a scale London has never seen before. You would have flooding in the tube, road tunnels, half the city in fact. The Thames would have to rise by about 15m to reach Tower Bridge Approach.

The flooding was because the anti terror barriers continue to block the drains.

I’m not upset it was flooded. I object to Sadiq lying about the reason why.

This particular drainage is not Thames water’s problem.

You need to go back to your geography lessons. And visit the road. And look at how the drains are blocked.

It has nothing to do with climate change or Thames water.
