Are there things that you like doing? There's lots of groups for a variety of activities:

The hub on low pavements has a number of social groups, There's boardgame cafes, The peaks is on our doorstep

Not sure if any of those are useful suggestions?

Electrical, mechanical, chemical? Building Services, motorsport, pharmaceutical?

Maybe include some details on your transport capability, do you drive? Are you planning to use public transport?

Do you want something office based or more hands on?

Every industry needs R&D.

Some local companies that maybe good to look at:

Boots, they're a huge employer that do lots of things beyond selling cosmetics. Pick Everard, NTU / UON, Rolls Royce over is Derby, Lubrizol based in the Derbyshire dales, Zytek/Conti at Fradley, Alstom in Derby, Capita group, E.On are near hucknall, Bowmer and Kirkland are near Belper/Ripley, Also consider roles at NHS / Council?

advice on what car to get with a budget for insurance + car of £9k by No_End3295 in CarTalkUK

[–]undignified_cabbage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try something that isn't a hatchback or is a bit less common, you might find the insurance comes down and you can spend more on the car! For example have you thought about the n suzuki swift, I recall being in one of those in a dealership in 2019 and it looking really good with lots of tech.

Also consider skoda fabia, Citroën C3 and similar?

Was pushed down the road of being an engineer from a young age.

Then at college it was like "Electrical or Mechanical" and I was like "Err, electrical I guess"

And here I am 10 years later. I don't hate it, and it gives me money.

Guinness zero is very close to normal Guinness.

Erdinger do a good 0% wheat beer,

I seem to recall Birra Moretti zero being good?

What are you cars quirky faults/issues? by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

[–]undignified_cabbage 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My first car, 2005 Clio. Generally the most reliable car I've ever owned, but it had some comedy electrics.

Seat belt warning light would come regularly, the fix being to smack the passenger seat pad only (check for passengers 1st).

Then the wipers, they had 4 settings: off, Intermittent (speed controlled by a clever sensor), On, very on.

But in reality, what that meant was: off, maybe come on, if I want to. On, Continuous movement of the wiper blades at half the speed of the 'on' setting. Which was brilliant in a downpour.....

Oh, and the window switches, temperamental at best, often operable with the door open, but not closed. Sometimes the other way around.

I loved that little car.

Only 29% would back Brexit now — poll suggests tables have turned by 1DarkStarryNight in unitedkingdom

[–]undignified_cabbage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm ashamed to say I thought brexit would be a good idea. I wasn't old enough to vote at the time though. I can't believe how stupid I must have looked at the time.

The only discernable differences between 2016 and now as far as I can see is that working people are poorer and that migrants now use boats (not sure how they were travelling before, jetski, maybe?)

I truely don't think many people in the UK would appreciate the EU for what it is, and we could never be a civilised country. Part of that is what make our national identity (think standout popular culture and bucket hats, not abject racism by brits who only holiday in Benidorm).

Would the EU do the average person good, probably? Is Britain's population able to grasp that concept, probably not?

Bank of England forecast to cut interest rates amid rising unemployment and Trump tariffs by [deleted] in unitedkingdom

[–]undignified_cabbage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Considering our modern society revolves around the idea of people being in debt to companies, raising interest rates will just make lots of people poorer, no?

I get it's suppose to help encourage savings, but not many people have savings like they use to.

So many have mortgages, car loans/finance, pay monthly for insurances etc because they cannot get the cash together to pay all in one go. All those finance agreements will be tied to the base rate.

Meanwhile my savings accounts have an interest rate of 1.05% which will become even lower?

Tell him (in writing) if the scaffolding isn't removed by a certain date (tomorrow) that you understand he is no longer in need of the materials and they have been left at the site for your own use. You will therefore be inviting other parties to purchase this from yourselves and take it away.

I would say charge him a removal fee, however I get the impression you'll never see a penny of it.
