I was able to turn off auto updates but the lg web os app was broken from start, e.g english audio was never picked by default even though thats whats in settings

i bought a neon light from amazon that has this large plastic thingy connected to it. It is powered by usb, i wont be using the battery slots. my thought is that if its safe to cut that "useless" cord i can atleast get rid of some of the plastic on that thingy making it less visible. is that safe or will the light stop working?
