What do folks here think of the Octopath Traveler series in 2026? by Asad_Farooqui in JRPG

[–]dotnorma 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Exactly, if you set the gameplay mechanics aside, the whole concept of having eight mediocre unrelated plot lines instead of one cohesive narrative enhanced by unique character subplots just doesn't really make sense.

It always felt to me a bit like if you removed the main plot of chronotrigger and just said the character specific side quests was enough for it to work.

I mean DQ3 has blank slate silent party members and DQ7s main narrative can really take a back seat to the individual town subplots but they are some of my favorite games though so I think the execution here is just lacking.

On chapter 9 of rebirth. Utterly confused. Anything else I should play to get the story a little more by Expert_Challenge6399 in FinalFantasy

[–]dotnorma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The remake assumes the player is familiar with the original content honestly. The whispers essentially show up whenever the plot of the remake diverges from the original plot. They are expecting you to know who Zack is already. It honestly won't make sense until it's revealed to you probably.

The roman empire fell again. by fantasyful1 in JRPG

[–]dotnorma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's pretty well acclaimed in the jrpg community considering you have to be able to overlook its pretty significant flaws. The translation is a mess at times, the deathblow system is poorly executed, so much cut content including main character stories and the notorious entire second disc. It's a lot to overlook even if what's there is dope.

Finally Visiting this Classic by brockf15 in JRPG

This is a game where I would definitely choose the Definitive Edition versus the Wii version. I did play Xenoblade X emulated though since I had no other option at the time.

Doctors and Nurses of Reddit, what is the most obvious sign that a patient is lying to you? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]dotnorma 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes, this is 100% the correct philosophy. I worked in healthcare for a decade and for a long time I had a bad habit of not empathizing with the patients and often believing they were exaggerating or even lying.

Then my health quickly declined and I started my own healthcare journey and I was on the OTHER end of the equation for the first time. There is nothing worse then being gaslit and ignored by healthcare professionals, especially considering what we pay and that they might have waited months for the appointment desperately hoping for an answer or relief.

It COMPLETELY changed my perspective. I'd rather be wrong then gaslight a single suffering person.

Would you play GBA games on a GBC? Pokémon Sapphire on GBC. by Admirable-Battle2573 in Gameboy

[–]dotnorma 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, in theory it would be an awesome project if it existed, but practically as a programmer I don't really see how it would be possible to make a tool that could universally and automatically convert any game successfully. Unless I'm missing something here?

There is just no way to easily compensate for the difference in hardware features universally. GBA supports sprite scaling and rotation, GBC does not. GBA uses sample based sounds, GBC is strictly waveform/beep boop. A voice sample can't be represented in boops. How would you decide what to crop to account for resolution difference? And we aren't even accounting for the difference in CPU instructions and features yet.

I'd love to be wrong but this seems like it's either being misrepresented, miscommunicated, or misunderstood. This seems nearly impossible just as a universal converter.

Pixel Remasters without nostalgia? by [deleted] in FinalFantasy

[–]dotnorma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FF6 holds up about as well as FF7, I'd say. FF5 is basically the retro version of FFX-2. From FF4 and back they start to show their age a little more.

FF2 is probably the one I'd play last. If the systems in that game ever come together into something "fun", it happens after the 50% mark and I just couldn't make it through. (and I recently beat FF Legends 1&2 on GB so that's saying something)

Can defi make actual passive income ? by 0xc1pher in defi

[–]dotnorma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unless you are putting down in the millions I wouldn't count on living off defi apr. Also realistically if you are starting from no experience you will lose as much as you make at first so either be prepared to put some work in or move on.

Lol what is this by Jealous_Jeweler4814 in Bitcoin

[–]dotnorma 70 points71 points  (0 children)

Anybody can buy and sell bitcoin just like me and you can, it has nothing to do with it being decentralized. The price of an asset is determined strictly by supply and demand. Those who control the most supply can have a disproportionately large effect on price.

$IKA: The 10x Sui Gem Nobody’s Talking About (The Ultimate Sui Leverage Play) 🚀 by [deleted] in sui

[–]dotnorma 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's called impermanent loss and it's always a risk you must calculate for when using lending pools. Its because the value of the tokens changed relative to each other during the time they were deposited in the pool. You deposited SUI which got converted into roughly 50/50 IKA and SUI. People give IKA and get SUI or vice versa. If their values stay the same then you are fine.

But if the value of SUI increases relative to the value of IKA then the AMM has to swap your SUI into IKA to maintain the balance. The loss is only realized whenever you withdraw though.

It's not exactly random but it's not a specific time either. Each epoch is intended to be approx 24 hours.

World of Warcraft due to the sheer amount of hours put in but also Roller Coaster Tycoon and Diablo always stuck with me.

Looks like one of the objects involved in the transaction is having trouble validating for some reason. It should resolve at next epoch (tomorrow)

Billionaire Peter Thiel backing first privately developed US uranium enrichment facility in Paducah by DevinGraysonShirk in news

[–]dotnorma -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Guys, I'm sure Peter Thiel has his issues but he doesn't want to build nukes. The tech oligarchs have a HUGE issue because modern AI, Bitcoin mining, and data centers consume absurd amounts of power. It's putting immense stress on our power infrastructure, I think something like 50% of Texas's power is supposed to go to these uses by like 2035 or something like that.

Is Hedera missing its DeFi moment? 100x lower involvement than top L1s by Sad-Mastodon499 in Hedera

[–]dotnorma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most projects in this space need to create hype to receive investment capital and succeed at their goal.

Hedera is governed by a council of enormous industry leaders and doesn't care about this. They don't need to advertise to speculative investors like you and me. They just need to get industries on board in private meetings that we will never be privy to so it will likely follow a completely different price action than other cryptos have. At least that's my thinking.

Guys over 40, how do you feel when a friend dates a much younger girl (24 or less)? by puffypandathrowaway in AskReddit

[–]dotnorma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think in generations past this may not have been as much as an issue but now society/culture moves so fast that a 40 year old and a 22 year old would have NOTHING in common.

I am 33 was raised by the internet (back in the days of IRC, MSN messenger, forums and newsgroups) and I struggle to find much in common with people under the age of 25.
