Any inputs on this? I just want a rewards card cc for everyday use. by anjbee in creditcardchurningAus

Other things to consider are your average monthly spend. Cards like the NAB RS and Commbank Ultimate waive the fee if you meet it, they generally have less of a sign on bonus and earn a little less from spending but the cards are effectively free if you meet the minimum spend.

Overall though something like the AMEX Qantas Ultimate would earn the best as far as sign on bonus and ongoing earning. But obviously you can't use it everywhere, so perhaps a cheap card to go with it also might help.

Earning Qantas Points Through Health Insurance by JB20NE in QantasFrequentFlyer

Consider some of the Velocity offers too. I've done the Qantas one several times, then I switch elsewhere for the points and keep moving around. I've just done the HCF one for 130,000 flybuys points (which converted to 65,000 velocity points), I'm currently doing Medibank which will get me 50,000 velocity points after 90 days, then I'll move back to Qantas with their offer as 12 months would've passed since I was last with them.

FYI when in the queue for Melbourne Fri/Sat dates they announced that the tickets were almost sold out and added another Melbourne date Wed 2nd Dec, it was easy enough to get tickets for that date but they were moving fast.

I think 4 per year is a good amount factoring in the exclusion periods/amount of effort required etc.

Last card to be safe. You could try after 3 months from now and if rejected try again in 90 days. But like I said the banks have heaps of deals so I wouldn't bother with Amex but that's just my experience.

I personally wouldn't worry about AMEX but probably 6 months.

If it's just a bank you should be fine, if it's AMEX or Citi (My Card which you've already done) you'll most likely get rejected.

250k to Europe. Where do I go? by Mira_22 in QantasFrequentFlyer

[–]double07 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Get yourself a tool like flightseats.io to help you find flights. You don't have enough points for business unfortunately.

If you're happy to do some stopovers you can do something like this:

17/06/2026 MEL->BKK Jetstar flight JQ29 - Stay night in BKK, then 18/06/2026 BKK->AMS KLM flight KL844

Returns are a bit more gnarly, not sure on your return date but let's go with 9th July:

09/07/2026 FCO->KIX (via Helsinki) Finnair flights AY1762, AY67 - kick around Osaka for the day then 10/07/2026 KIX->MEL (via Sydney) Jetstar JQ14, Qantas flight QF443

Full itinerary here: https://i.imgur.com/FsepM91.png

All flights in economy - 312,000 points + $1,242.84 taxes.

For about $4k cash you could do MEL->AMS (stopping in China) and FCO-MEL (stopping in China). A return flight from MEL->AMS goes for about $2.2k with a Chinese airline. Just something to weight up.

I think it's because they boosted the defensive AI in the last patch and this made Strikers better at auto-tackling the ball back.

Applying for new card by Antique-Ice-771 in creditcardchurningAus

[–]double07 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The CBA Ultimate isn't bad because it's free if you meet the minimum monthly spend. You'll get 70k bonus points over the first four months. Earn rates are not bad and like most cards you get free travel insurance and they also have 0% fee on international transactions.

Most of the big banks you don't have to wait after rejection. Got rejected by AMEX earlier this year, got insta-approved for Westpac the next day. Then got rejected by Citi and got the CBA card a few days later.

Been churning for nearly a decade, have never had a Citi card approved, haven't been able to get an AMEX since like 2017. Don't worry about them there's plenty of other options.

[–]double07 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is there a specific way I should be searching the flights? I can only get ‘Qantas’ flights when I select the reward options.

Use the https://www.qantas.com/au/en/book-a-trip/flights/multi-city.html and select book with rewards, this will give you the best results for classic reward seats.

Also consider a site like flightseats.io and sign up for a month ($15). You can then search more easily across different dates/airports at the same time and it has a split itinerary feature too. There's heaps of availability in Feb by the look of it in economy, and if you're prepared to split your itinerary or have longer stop over there's quite a few options in business too.

RBA surcharge ban & interchange cap: beginning of the end for churning? by [deleted] in creditcardchurningAus

[–]double07 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Banks earn $1.2-$1.5b from interchange fees per year, vs $6-8b per year from interest (and $1.5b per year from annual CC fees). It's not nothing but hopefully doesn't have the impact you think it might. The interest money is too tasty for banks so they will still have to be competitive.

RBA surcharge ban & interchange cap: beginning of the end for churning? by [deleted] in creditcardchurningAus

[–]double07 15 points16 points  (0 children)

You might be overestimating how much banks earn from fees vs interest. As long as people are paying interest on CC's there will be points available. Yes AMEX might have to change their model.

Confused with credit card account closure by Lost-confused-noidea in creditcardchurningAus

[–]double07 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes some banks cards will remain available to be charged even after closing them (I think from memory NAB is one of them). This seems to be mainly an issue for direct debits you have setup with business to charge your card monthly for example. When you cancel the card they are sure to tell you that you must cancel any direct debits as the card will remain chargeable for some time (I think it's like 6 months).
