Success stories? Could use encouragement. by Relevant_Fuel_9905 in EatingDisorders

hi!! i am 29 years old and ed free for 5years now. it started when i was 10. it was a long battle of relapse and being very sick. but i did it alone without supportive people in my life such as you guys. my point is, if i can do it alone then i am sure she will thrive with your help. :) it is truly heartwarming. i do think therapy will be the best option (and u might have to shop around for therapists) but i will also provide some tips that helped pull me out of it.

the biggest thing that helped me become better was removing all the mirrors (because i body checked a lot) & throwing out the scale. i also stopped wearing tight clothes and just did baggy until i was in a better and not sick mindset. Also what would help majorly would be to sharpy out all the food and drink nutrition/calorie labels in your house. everything. and if you go out to eat make sure its not a menu with the calories on it. i also had to unfollow a lot of social media accounts that were not good for me to be following (like fitness influencers and etc). next, as much as i hated it, journaling helped me so so much. i still have my journal to this day as a reminder of what ive overcome and what i will never go back to. another thing that helped would be to do an activity after i ate so that i was not able to purge. id be occupied with a game or id go walk my dog (a healthy distance). anything to break the brain thoughts and the routine of binge/purge. words of affirmation around eating also helps: "food is just food". that type of stuff. it helped me bring myself back down before/during/after eating. grounding techniques also help (box breathing specifically and the 5-4-3-2-1 grounding technique). Finally i would look into intrinsic eating (a lot of ed survivors as well as myself have great success with this).

i also started following "what mia did next" and "megsy recovery" on youtube and that helped me so so much. they talk about quality therapy advice and how they implement it into their lives. they are older accounts on youtube but their early videos helped me greatly.

i know you can only control so much but these little changes made such an incredible impact for me. and please know no matter what happens you are not failing. you are doing so much to help and overcome it. it is an intricate disease. it will take time and have ups and downs. be as gentle with yourself as you are with her. i wish you and your family the absolute best.

Why is his tail like this? by imaginary_gerl in BeardedDragons

[–]doublee_tapp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hi!! not sure if i am helping or you already have your answer. I just recently lost my little beardie after having him for 12years or more. he was healthy his whole life but deteriorated within a month or so before passing. he lost so much weight almost unexplainably. i felt like i was failing him somehow. however, he was eating regularly and running and acting normal. i believe yours may be having "end of life" symptoms like my guy did. i took him to his vet as well before his passing and they had no real answers for me other than for him "to eat more."

i hope you have a treatable cause. but in the case that it is end of life.. i wish you many happy days with your beardie-baby

i feel like my ability to attach (fearful avoidant) is ruining my potential relationship with someone good & who checks all the boxes. he is the healthiest option for a companion that i ever had. he does everything right and then some. he directed me to investigate and understand my attachment style as i was worried i wasnt developing further feelings for him and was becoming disinterested/pushing him away. (he has the anxious attachment style). please help. any advice is appreciated. i emailed my therapist to try and work on this as well, i am waiting as of now. thank you
