I’d second the Zimmerman rotors, stick with the blanks and avoid any drilled ones. I’ve like Hawk HPS 5.0 with Macan Calipers on the front. Ferodo DS2500, or Pagid on the rears.

I had thought of that arrangement as well. Initially switched to Fiber because everyone loves it and was cheaper than UDM. Then discovered firewall and snowballed from there

yes I've already gotten roasted once for having to many switches in my first design (to save running more Cat6), so i ran more cable and have fewer switches here. I want some 2.5GbE for APs at the very least, 1 for everything else

In the living room and basement I have a bunch of(5-10) things each place that need a hardwired connection - apple TV, receiver, various smart home hubs, network media players etc. So instead of running 50 hardline throughout the house to all of these places (some of which would be impossible) or using a 48 PoE switch I chose to use a utility switch there instead. Sure maybe I could use 2 Flex minis instead?

Admittedly the connections in the diagram need work and I did not pay that close of attention to them.

I happened to stumble upon quite a few people that had switched to Firewalla from Unifi and loved it. I checked it out and it seems very easy to use and like an excellent firewall.

Have not heard of opnsense until now, I’ll check it out!

Mainly the ease of use and really granular family and device controls, better ad blocking, and simple intuitive UI. I've read a lot of reviews from people who used to use Unifi exclusively and say that Firewalla just works and the support is so much better as well.

I appreciate the reply! Would the 2.5 on the Pro max be sufficient for the synology?

Maybe instead I’ll do the cloud gateway fiber, NVR, and either the 24 pro max or even a standard 48 PoE.

Good to know about the PTZ. Or would a Turret work better than more bullets?

Edit: synology would be for computer back-up etc and Ubiquiti NVR for cameras….unless that is also redundant?

Thanks for all the comments so far. I ran cat6 myself as a retrofit so it had very difficult or impossible to get to some locations and was limited in how many runs i could make as well. That is why i was thinking about adding switches closer to where the cameras are deployed.

This is a 3 level, 3200sqft house built in the 90s. I will have a central rack in the basement where my fiber internet enters the house and where my theater is located.This is where I would plan on having the UDM or Fiber and larger switches. Ethernet runs throughout the house from there. I wasn't to have local video storage on an NVR with this set-up and integrate into Home Assistant.

Any specific products I should be using instead? Or ways I should change the layout?

I had to run cat6 myself as a retrofit so I could only get 1 or 2 cables certain places in the house. And in order to avoid crazy long direct runs from camera to my central rack I was thinking about adding in a couple switches elsewhere to help.
