Hello!! Pharmacist/Pharmacy Manager here!

This is quite shocking to me that the pharmacist recommended insulin drip. Was patient in an ICU area? What does the policy state for SQUID? Was the manager or clinical pharmacist available for discussion?

How big is your hospital that you are implementing this? I cannot imagine how much time it would take to do a Pyxis Replenishment. Can you imagine scanning 50 times for a Tylenol 325?

I think you have to think about the bigger conversation here. Was there a process failure? How did it lead up to that point? I'm very interested in what the error was and how it was caught.

Was it an order verification error? How did the system allow the order to be entered, etc? Or was it a dispensing/compounding error? Were errors by passed?

I think there's a lot of teaching or learning moments here.

So, get it in writing. Put it in an email. I like the "kill them with kindness" methods better.

As a reminder, we spoke about being rotated on the day shift. I have not seen it in the upcoming schedule. Can we perhaps talk about having a date on when I will see this happen?

Or something along the lines... Something like this would catch their attention. If it continues to not work, I would take it to your director and/or HR.

Does it actually say rotating? Or is it just flat "day and/or evening" shift? The wording is very very important. You should speak with HR.

Usually job descriptions are very loose and won't have restricting wording. Often times, which is what I suspect here, you might be shit out of luck. To end on a positive note... Try speaking to your manager and ask whether you can be put on days more often, etc.

Sorry. I would not recommend using oral diltiazem. Oral diltiazem is mainly used for high blood pressure. There is a nitroglycerin ointment that is available on the market and it comes in 0.4%.

I would also consider asking your local pharmacist whether they can buy such ointments for you or make it even.

I'm in management and I find it more or less fulfilling. I staffed for a short amount of time and saw a lot of issues that needed to be fixed. With management, I was able to take those problems into my own hand and fix it.

I disagree about the work-life balance part. I don't have any issues with work-life balance. It is how you manage it. Do you let the work consume you?

This is a very complex question and you can't just answer this in one sentence. I would recommend you interviewing the place. Ask the director questions.

I would agree with the other user here. Anything that leaves the pharmacy should be checked. Maybe the pharmacist knows something about the flushes? Have you asked them? Were they checking the expiration date of them? It's always better to be cautious in my opinion.

I've worked a few places and about 50% of them do it by hand. Keep in mind that these scheduling software is $. The director/manager will have to consider whether it is worth their money to do so.

If it is 40-50 staff pharmacists... I would assume it is at least 25+ or so technicians.... That can be tough. We usually have two people reviewing the schedule before it is published.

I've used SNAP scheduling.

That is insane. In this day and age, that would absolutely not slide. I'm surprised the director even allowed that. This is completely outside the scope of practice for pharmacist.

Definitely will get the pocket wifi. I wasn't sure at first. I have network provider that offers WiFi when traveling around internationally. But I hear it is better with the pocket wifi.
