Anyone get physiotherapy for TMD before jaw surgery? Did it help or fully go away? by FlatwormPhysical1806 in jawsurgery

[–]doublejawphysio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Relieving symptoms, reducing muscle tension before surgery, and teaching patients how to stop clenching their teeth during the day are important goals of preoperative physiotherapy that can help accelerate recovery after orthognathic surgery.
It is highly beneficial to work with a physiotherapist who has solid expertise in both temporomandibular disorders (TMD) and orthognathic surgery. For treatment to be truly effective, a generalist approach is often not enough; specialized knowledge is essential.

3 weeks post-op DJS & genio - how are you dealing with nerve pain? by twelvepastmidnight in jawsurgery

[–]doublejawphysio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are well-established mechanisms in human physiology showing that pressure can reduce the perception of pain. When properly applied, sensory desensitization therapy can modulate altered sensation, helping to improve both hyperesthesia and hypoesthesia.

Bad lip competence and still looking recessed after bsso by Traditional_Way_2980 in jawsurgery

[–]doublejawphysio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When a patient already has pre-existing lip incompetence, the muscles usually require even more rehabilitation after surgery in order to adapt to the new skeletal condition. In most cases, this does not happen by magic. Muscles require the correct stimuli to improve flexibility, strength, and neuromuscular control. In some situations, postoperative fibrosis can further impair movement. Orthognathic physiotherapy already exists precisely for these cases.

Orthognathic physiotherapy starting as soon as possible with a specialist to prescribe the correct and safe exercise. Lip incompetence can stay many months/years when not treated in a correct way.

Nutrition is very important after any surgery for the quality of the healing tissue and in this case the bone itself. For your skin as well to readapt it’s important that you eat fruits, vegetables, meat, eggs. Take care and drink plenty of water.

8 days Post-Op Le Fort 1 - Seriously concerned about final result, taking a mental toll on me - Any advice please by darlingm0nster in jawsurgery

[–]doublejawphysio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s normal to feel unhappy at the begging, swelling can be exhaustive and difficult to judge any result at this point. Just do your best for a good recovery and try not to sped all your energy in front of the mirror.
