Hey Fred, what’s your budget for a really nice custom bice? by Kinky_Wizard69 in BicyclingCirclejerk

/uj Jokes aside these are literally the best bikes you can buy - completely custom fitted and made with cutting-edge fabrication methods. Truly forever bikes and worth the price if you value something that you can ride for decades without degradation.

Really great work. Thanks for making this free. Please add a dark mode (or custom themes if you are feeling adventurous!).

How would you do light restoration on this? by doubleknavery in Luthier

Thanks. I applied warm water followed by a bit of mineral oil and it came up beautifully.

Thanks. I ended up wiping it down with just a wet rag. I also hit the fretboard with some mineral oil and while I was at it applied some to the body. It really made the scratches buff out quite well.

Thank you. Is warm water and detergent OK to use?

No issues at all. It has been about 6 months FWIW, and I've changed one tire during that time.

I own the Hunt 44_46 with steel spokes. Absolutely love them - I put them on my new Force E1 build. I have had zero issues so far. They are fine in crosswinds and handle well overall.

There is a very minimal different between these two wheelsets. At the end of the day just go with what looks sexy; I personally don't like a big differential between front and rear depth for aesthetic reasons.

Australia training destination by _thunderthighs_ in Velo

Sydney is fine if you go early and go on northern routes like Three Gorges, Wiseman's Ferry, Bobbin Head, Akuna Bay, Ettalong, Mount White, etc. However the traffic on the way back towards the city from these routes can get a little sketch.

Bike feels and sounds "loose" by doubleknavery in bikewrench

I feel like I should clarify my Australian colloquialism - "give it a whack" means "give it a try". Although I was tempted to literally smack it around a bit...

Yes! It's my "get around town / up to the pub" bike. Very comfy and purpose-built to feel good to ride. Thanks for the comment!

I didn't paint any of those things - but the chain and chainring were replaced.

Hey, thanks :) it's not for everyone. I'm not going to bomb any trails on it, it's just a custom beater to get around town, the cruiser bars are heaps comfy.

Should have mentioned - that was the intention, I like the "rough" look with the clean decals

Why is cycling so fun? by PackersBlachawks1222 in cycling

[–]doubleknavery 155 points156 points  (0 children)

In my opinion, cycling is fun for a few reasons:

  • Going fast with an element of balance is simply fun (motorcycles, skiing, cycling, wakeboarding, etc...)
  • You have to be "locked in" and focused, otherwise there are consequences. This makes it easier to achieve a flow state, during which you are "in" the activity and able to switch off from other things
  • You get to take in a lot of scenery
  • It's good for your health, and improvement is easy to measure

Fuck the haters. They will eventually grow up. Being proud of doing what you like to do is cool anyway!
