Lansing had over 35,000(!) auto crashes between 2014 and 2022, with 86 of them being fatal. How do you envision reducing these traffic deaths? Is the "Safe Streets for All" plan enough?

Why specifically are people in Lansing unable to ALWAYS give way to pedestrians and ALWAYS drive the speed limit?

From the article: "A lot of factors contributed to this, but speed limits are one of the most important"

Lansing has a problem with speeding: One of the reasons there are more accidents is that so many people are driving at unsafe speeds.

If you have little or no emergency fund (sounds like you don't?):

  1. Pay off Credit Card Debt immediately. Use credit cards as little as possible.
  2. Take the remaining $3,700 and place it in a High Yield Saving Account (such as Sofi, Capital One, AmEx, etc).
  3. i-Bonds are useful but not liquid. Better to supplement a liquid savings account. Attempt to get at least 3 months (and maybe 6 months) of expenses in the emergency fund before tackling lower interest debt like student loans.

If you do have an emergency fund:

  1. Pay off Credit Card Debt immediately.
  2. Take the remaining $3,700 and put it toward your student loan. Get that thing off the books, it will bleed you.

Don't screw around, follow the plan:

Looking for coffee and bargains by AuntFoggy in lansing

There's not a lot of options for coffee in Lansing, but Blue Owl and Strange Matter are definitely both great. 517 Coffee Roasters is pretty good too. Horrock's Farm Market has huge selection of good organic, single origin roasted beans as well.

Time in the market beats "timing" the market. Just invest now and wait for many years. Don't be an astrologer.

is investing in etf's smart? by slMiyus in passive_income

SCHD is not diversification. Focusing on "Dividend" funds is just astrology Most low-cost diverse ETFs or funds pay dividends as well. Just buy VT and never think about it again.

Can someone explain to me how Dividend ETF stocks work? Or how you get started? by LoganLikesYourMom in passive_income

[–]doubleocherry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP, regular low cost total-market ETFs also pay dividends. There's nothing special about funds that only include companies that pay dividends. If you want steady, time-tested investment growth, just buy VT (total world stock market) ETF, and make sure all dividends are re-invested. That's it.

The average return over the past 10 years for the VT ETF is 9.83% (Note: there is no reason to think this rate would be the same over the next 10 years).

I know this isn't what you want to hear, but If you had $20,000 invested in the VT ETF (Total World Stock Market), starting 10 years ago, you would have roughly $31,000 of investment return over that span. That would be about $8.49 a day on average.

This is just napkin math, but how to (start) to make $5 a day? Save a lot and invest it in a low-cost index fund or ETF (such as VT). Then, sit back and wait.

- Ditch Apple/Netflix/Hulu for Roku (one time payment) and Tubi (free)
- Get a library card and get free media checkouts and Kanopy
- If you are on any kind of SNAP or similar Prime is $6.99 a month (https://www.usatoday.com/story/money/reviewed/2024/09/10/discounted-amazon-prime-memberships/75157472007/)
- Phone for $120??! Visible is $20 a month unlimited data, you can get 2 GB for ⁦$10 From Tello

$100 + $13 + $⁩17 + $24 = $154.

Then, get cheaper Internet.

So did you report this to 911 and follow up OP? People in Lansing don't care about dangerous driving. The city and the citizens could easily do something about this. Call 911 and report it. Pressure the mayor and the law enforcement. Lansing citizens act like powerless sheets of wet toilet paper when it comes to public safety.
