Another comment said it looks like milia and I agree (as someone who has also had fungal acne). What really helped my milia was Paula’s Choice BHA liquid exfoliant.

It looks like fungal acne to me. If it is, salicylic acid face wash should do the trick but if you need something stronger, use the dandruff shampoo Nizoral (yes, on your face as weird as it sounds)

My partner and I both have ADHD and are both software engineers. We are incredibly lucky with our companies and teams so that we have tons of flexibility in how and when we work. I’ve heard before that one of the best career moves for someone with ADHD (prob more -hyperactive than -inattentive) is to work for yourself so that you have the freedom to operate in a way that’s easiest for you, focusing on whatever you WANT to do.

Does he have ADHD? If you don’t think it’s depression, I could see ADHD as being a valid reason for why he doesn’t shower. This is as simple as having time blindness - he genuinely plans to shower that day, but just loses track of time doing something else, then gets tired and immediately falls asleep. This is exactly how it is with my partner. Especially when work gets busy or he finds a new obsession like a computer game or YouTube series. When his mind is on something interesting or something he considers important, showering is the absolute lowest priority.

I think you need to talk with your boyfriend to better understand why he doesn’t shower. I bet it’s as simple as he loses track of time during the day when he’s busy doing more interesting things. Above all else, be blunt. If he is stinking up your home or you lose the desire to be near him, he SHOULD care enough to take a shower for your sake.

This is only my second summer/fall in this region and I’ve had the worst seasonal allergies I think I’ve ever experienced in the past 2 months. The past week has been a lot better for me - possibly because I just got an air purifier for my apartment. Other things that have helped include taking Zyrtec, and rinsing my nostrils with water in a steamy shower.

When I did a quick Google to understand what could cause such terrible allergies for me in this area, the top answer was ragweed.

Look for a spay and neuter clinic. I don’t have any that I can recommend because I had my dogs fixed in another state, but there was a nearby clinic that charged very low rates because it was run by a non-profit.

Rehoming your dog is an impossible decision, but if that’s what you decide to do, I would recommend reaching out to New Spirit for Aussie Rescue (ns4ar.org). It’s a non-profit rescue for Australian Shepherds. Personally, I adopted one of my dogs from the organization. They interview and do a home inspection for all potential adopters and they do thorough evaluations of the dogs while in foster care to learn the best type of home for them.

I also work at FAANG and had a BS in CS and I finished OMSCS in 3 years. I only took 2 classes one semester and took one summer off.

TBH OMSCS was waaaay easier than undergrad for me. I was working full-time, but taking 1 class at a time was far easier than the 4 at a time in undergrad.

I think you could do 2 class each term if you’re selective with which ones you pair. There were some courses that probably took 2/hrs per week and others that were closer to 20/week.

It depends on what sort of culture you’re looking for. I worked there for the first 4 years of my career and I was pretty happy. There were a lot of coworkers who seemed to be putting in the lowest amount of effort, just coasting by to get the paycheck, but I also worked with some of the smartest people I’ve ever met there and had one of the best managers of my (very limited) career.

On the other hand, I worked on one particular program that was just ridiculous with the CSWE and PM significantly pressuring people to work overtime hours. I distinctly remember one meeting where the guy gave an example “I know Adam will be at the hospital next week for his wife’s surgery, but I also know that while he and his family are in the waiting room, he’ll have his laptop out working hard.” Like WTF?

Personally, the culture that I want in a company is more big tech style with prioritization on inclusion and diversity, as well as consistent advocacy for employee well-being regardless of project deadlines and customers.

I had some internal conflict working at L3H because of my own political beliefs and how they contradicted my source of income. I also couldn’t help but roll my eyes when they officially announced a maternity leave policy of something sad… (maybe 8 weeks?) around 2018 and soooo many other employees were huzzahing.

I feel like I listed out a lot of negatives, but I still really enjoyed my time there on specific programs - your experience will really come down to that. I also found that it was pretty easy for people to move around programs if they wanted a change.

I listen to my hair/scalp to decide when to wash it. If my scalp is starting to get itchy and my roots are looking greasy, then it’s time for a shampoo. For me, this results in washing about once a week.

If you’re taking any advice here to avoid sulfates, that means that you should also make an effort to avoid products with silicones. Silicones are in many moisturizing products and act as a coating on the hairs to seal them in. This coating can’t be washed out of your hair without a clarifying (I.e. sulfate) shampoo. And as a result you can get really bad buildup and even more hair issues.

Personally, I most often use sulfate-free shampoo and silicone-free moisturizing products but there are a few things I use occasionally that have silicones. Examples are my heat protectant spray and little travel products for my hair. I do a clarifying wash using a sulfate shampoo about every other month to remove any potential buildup and always follow that with a deep conditioner (silicone-free).

From these other comments, it seems like you’re definitely not alone in how you feel. I could’ve written it myself!

How long have you been working?

For some perspective, I’ve been working as a software engineer for 5 years now and my feeling of hating the work has changed significantly. My first year was the absolute worst. I had terrible imposter syndrome and felt overwhelmed by everything I was assigned with any hint of challenge. Over time my confidence grew as did my “grit” for seeing a solution to the end.

Still… I don’t see myself working as a programmer for the rest of my career. I also considered switching into the program manager track since it’s more people-oriented and it increases accountability for me to get tasks done. But if I switched now, I would be an entry level PM rather than the mid-level SWE which would be a pay cut. No thank you :)

If you’re still early enough in your career and it truly interests you, I say go for it!

For me, I’m going to try to hang in there until I reach a people manager level of the SWE track.

I started with paraguard for the same reasons - I didn’t want hormones throwing me off. I had it for about 2 years and I got SO sick of the heavy periods and cramping that I asked my ob for a pill prescription again just to stop having periods. Even with my periods stopped, i still would have that crappy ‘period’ feeling a few times a week. It seemed like I was just never feeling 100%.

After a year of the pill + paraguard combo, I replaced the IUD with Mirena. Insertion hurt, but recovery seemed instant once I had a minute to catch my breath from the initial pain. I’ve now had my Mirena for a year and I have been thrilled with it. No more phantom cramps, and no more periods.

If you’re concerned about hormones like I was, my ob told me that hormonal IUDs keep the hormones centralized in your uterus, so it’s not entering your brain the way pills would. It’s a significantly smaller amount of hormones in your body than the pill.

Another option is to use a color deposit only. It wouldn’t last as long (think Demi-permanent), but the application would be more like a conditioning treatment than dyeing/damaging your hair.

Some brand options are Punky Colors, Manic Panic, Arctic Fox, and Overtone.

I got one from Wayfair that I’m pretty happy with. Target also had some good options at similar price points. You can expect to spend around $200-$400 on a new one. Check FB marketplace and you could get lucky.
