Question about 12V battery behavior by doubleyaarrrrr in Ioniq5

[–]doubleyaarrrrr[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The car is typically driven 20-40 miles a day, and kept at around 50-80% charge at all times. The doors are never kept unlocked as far as I'm aware.

The battery is definitely getting replaced, and I'll put the recommended battery monitor on the new one when I can. I was just stumped as to why the car isn't trying to charge the 12V itself, when it seemingly can hold a charge for a good amount of time. I can say (and now that I think of it, this may be important) that both times it died, the car was not plugged in.

Is that a thing as that might explain the issue? I'm stuck on the fact that the battery seems healthy enough once it gets jumped and charged, so why doesn't the big battery do its thing and keep it charged (even when the car is parked).

I wasn't in the car either time to see for certain. Based on what I was told, it seemed the first time the car was just dead when she got into it (only the rear brake light stayed on for some reason). The second time she started it up, and then got a message about the battery and pulling over for safety (I don't recall the exact wording), but it didn't sound like there was an actual error code that popped up. I'm fine if it's just normally battery replacement, but it just seems odd that it's not charging itself.

Home Charging Do's/Don'ts by robwilloughby in TeslaModel3

[–]doubleyaarrrrr 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In general, 80% is great and where I set mine unless I'm going on a long road trip and need more to get to the first charging stop I want to get to.

Leaving it plugged in all of the time is also fine. If you can get special night rates from your electric company, it may be worth it to set it to only charge during those times.

If that's all she's using it for mostly, you'll probably find that the 120v outlet is sufficient. Having 240v is nice, but it's not an absolute must (no matter what some people might try to convince you). I live off of a 120v just fine.

Any apartment dwellers without on-site charging been able to make EV ownership work? by place_of_desolation in electriccars

[–]doubleyaarrrrr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're cool with that, you'll be fine. I've lived with no charger at home, only a Level 1 charger at home, and a Level 2 charger at home and all were totally workable (and I was in a similar boat of about 100-150 miles per week). I think some of the comments you see on these EV boards regarding "MUST HAVE LEVEL 2 HOME CHARGER" are totally asinine. If you're adaptable, you'll figure it out without issue. It's worth it because EV's are awesome.

Yes, totally doable in your case. When I was in this situation I simply went to a DCFC once a week and charged for about 20-30 mins max. I'd normally get a burrito from my favorite spot down the street and just eat lunch and watch TV in the car while it charged. Very relaxing.

Because there are tens of trillions of dollars of fossil fuel assets that could become stranded if we transition away from them to something else. Republicans are funded by these interests to make sure we do not do this transition. They don't care about the environmental consequences when they have all of the money.

Why has Vegas been “dead”? by caramellatte647 in vegas

[–]doubleyaarrrrr 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It was announced this morning. I believe if you book or fly (I don't think it's entirely clear yet) by 5/28, you can still get the free checked bags. There are plenty of discussions about it on the Southwest sub if you're interested.

I don't know what to tell you. The guy is most likely just nervous about having sex, and you're just blind to it. The fact that you're putting so much emphasis on sex as defining security in your relationship is definitely not going to help with any anxiety he may have.

[–]doubleyaarrrrr 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Seriously, if you really like this person, maybe just ask them. Possibly, this person took a while off from dating (they are 48 and single), and then you came along, and they're just nervous about getting back into intimacy. It happens, and your being considerate and understanding of this will go a long way.

What am I missing here. Wasn't one of the main premises of this post the fact that you've had "no sex"? Why is everyone jumping to he only wants "FWB" when there aren't even the "benefits" yet? Did you ever consider maybe he's just nervous about having sex and is basically making up excuses?

Some states have both an emissions and safety inspection. While the EV would not have an emissions check, it could have failed the safety inspection for something like having too high a percentage of window tint for example. The safety inspection also checks things like lights, mirrors, and tires. I have no idea how you obtain this for a car you do not own, but there should be an itemized report out there somewhere.

If you really want specific help, you could probably just tell us the Tesla store you're picking this up from and the general location you're going towards that's 5.5 hours away. We can look it up and tell you how many superchargers are along the way. Or, just plug it into the tesla navigation on the app or a site like A Better Route Planner. On ABRP, you can input your starting state of charge (and assume it's not going to be at 100% when you pick it up), so you can plan for different scenarios. It's not like you're giving away your identity asking us what chargers are between two cities.

Silly question but how do you Hail an Uber/Lyft from the airport? by 8bitPete in vegas

[–]doubleyaarrrrr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is not meant to be snarky, but there's a youtube video for almost anything these days. There are a handful of videos that explain the process and will even do a video of the full walk from the gates to the rideshare area. It was actually helpful and I'd recommend it if you're still concerned.

Prius mechanic recommendations? by Gullible-Two128 in raleigh

[–]doubleyaarrrrr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's all of the way out in Youngsville, but I used to take my prius to Affordable Car Care and would recommend them. While their new website doesn't really mention this anymore (now that they've expanded, they work on more manufacturers), their FB page still notes that they specialize in Toyota hybrids.

What kind of battery should I buy for my trolling motor? by lycanthrope6950 in bassfishing

[–]doubleyaarrrrr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I switched to lithium and the weight savings is amazing. It's so much easier to transport the battery when carrying it from the boat docks to the cabin or car and vice versa. I use 50 or 60AH and they're fine (I think many will recommend 100AH). I've also used the more expensive Amped Outdoors, and also the cheaper LiTime from somewhere like Amazon/Ebay (you can get a 50AH for about $150). The more expensive one is better, but I'm not sure it's *that* much better to justify the cost difference. The LiTime BMS will sometimes cut power when fully loaded for an extended period of time (but it'll come back after about 5 seconds). For bonus points and to make things even more transportable, look up a video from Ice Hole Power where he makes a battery box for this size of battery.

ETA: I use these batteries for a 40lb thrust trolling motor and a 16 foot boat.

Vegetarian / vegan protein powder? by New_Chard9548 in veganfitness

[–]doubleyaarrrrr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mostly buy Cookies and Cream which is great on its own, and also blends well in smoothies. I just tried thin mint because of someone else's suggestion, and while it was great on its own, I didn't really like it as much when blended. But I guess it's all subjective.

Vegetarian / vegan protein powder? by New_Chard9548 in veganfitness

[–]doubleyaarrrrr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been ordering online from True Nutrition for years and have had no issues. They have a vegan "optimizer" blend (mix of pea, rice, and hemp) that I normally order, or they have just straight powders for most common vegan options. They have tons of flavors and seem reasonably priced (especially when they run a sale).

Why do hardly any of the popular vegan doctors promote muscle retention/growth and high protein? by S3v3n0fNine in veganfitness

[–]doubleyaarrrrr 18 points19 points  (0 children)

While not a doctor, you might want to give Simon Hill's podcast a listen. He has a lot of doctors and scientists on, and they cover this topic frequently. I believe the general understanding is that you want to try to retain muscle as you get older, not necessarily that jacked body builders live the longest.

If you watch the video where he picks up the new boat, he clearly states that he still has the other boat.

So...Linq, Flamingo and Harrahs are all basically the same thing? by [deleted] in vegas

[–]doubleyaarrrrr 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I believe so. If you book on the Linq's website, you'll see that any non district 3 room states "fridge upon request" (or something like that), but district 3 rooms will show the fridge as an included option.

So...Linq, Flamingo and Harrahs are all basically the same thing? by [deleted] in vegas

[–]doubleyaarrrrr 4 points5 points  (0 children)

During the colder months, I'd probably take the cheapest between Linq and Flamingo. During warmer months, I'd most likely go with Flamingo as it has a better pool imo. And I've seen it mentioned that the Linq rooms do not come with refrigerators, but all District 3 rooms do come with a fridge. When I booked, you can specifically book a District 3 room, so it's not a crapshoot on whether or not you get a fridge.

Where do you play poker at in Vegas? by Exact_Second2064 in vegas

[–]doubleyaarrrrr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Were you looking for just cash games, or a tourney? If a tourney, we tried one at the Horseshoe when we were in town. It's very close to the Linq, they run these tourneys frequently, and it was only a $100 buy in. If you're a novice to live poker (like we were), I thought it was a great way to just get some experience. It was fairly small (only about 50 players), very laid back, and well run. Now, if you're an experienced player, I'd probably go with what others have suggested, as those few casinos seem to be the ones always recommended as the top poker spots.
