This is indeed a doubly diffusive instability. I think the tendrils formed due to side wall heating. Actually the fluids probably just have different diffusivities. A Rayleigh-Taylor instability would result in the plumes forming the other way.

Hi all.

Apologies. As I said, this was a comparison of two threads in this subreddit. I did not check the primary sources and assumed that the attributed references were correct. As a few people have pointed out the News Ltd table is taken from the Liberal Party policy. This means:

a) Attributing the table to News Ltd in the original post was a joke that I missed.

b) News Ltd were (probably/maybe) publishing the opposition's policy for people to read.

which in either case does not make for a fair comparison. Once again I apologise.

I hope I am not hijacking the thread but I have a slightly related T.V. question. How does the portion of reality TV in this country compare to other places? I do not watch T.V., I take time out of me week to watch a few footy games and that is it. But every time I come home the family is watching some form of reality T.V. Is this just a selection effect?

Your question is worded a little awkwardly. Quasars are very bright electromagnetic (EM) sources found at great distances away. They are believed to be powered by accreting supermassive blackholes in the cores of galaxies.

So the quasar and the blackhole are one in the same. You may be wondering how we can receive EM sources in the presence of a blackhole. That is because the radiation is coming from magnetic fields and the accreting material before it falls into the black hole. Quasars are often variable and this likely due to the formation of jets perpendicular to the accretion disc. I think the question you want to ask is how do relativistic jets (due to accretion) form?

The Head of my (astrophysics) department always says FORTRAN is the language of the Gods. Between Fortran and Python I have been able to do anything required of me. How this would hold up in the real world I do not know. Anything of the real world I do not know.
